I have, and that movie is nothing like them. They have turned Sherlock Holmes into an action hero, and I find it disgusting! If anyone here has ever read a Sherlock Holmes book, DO NOT SEE THIS FILM, IT IS FULL OF CONTRADICTIONS TO THE BOOKS! I am a huge fan of the books and did originally have high hopes for this film, but after viewing it, I think they have disgraced the Sherlock Holmes fans of the world. This movie should not bear the name Sherlock Holmes, as it is nothing like any of Authur Conan Dolye's works! I apologize to fans of this movie, but it is rubbish and nothing like the books. I wouldn't go see it again.
Please do not get cross with me, for I am only stating opinion on this topic.

Actually, this was my initial reaction. Sherlock ends up looking too roughed up, and things just go action-y and boom.
But I realized this is more of an adaptation--steampunk, if you will. Now in that context, I softened at the idea and tremendously enjoyed it. :will: Plus, this was never based on a book but some graphic novel made by a modern man like us. I did like how they put several elements from the book to sprinkle the movie with.
Spoiler:
As soon as I saw, and I quote, "That woman", I instantly knew it was Irene Adler. The adaptation of her is too commonly seen, though. :lana:

i liked it. the main thing disappointed me is i couldn't figure out any of the mysteries. isn't that the best part of the mystery is trying to solve them?

A bunch of the little tricks and puzzles were from the book such as...
Spoiler:
  • the pocket watch of a drunkard
  • the powder on a professor's lapel
  • the pale ring mark on a formerly engaged woman

I mean, it was stated in Study in Scarlet that Holmes was experienced in boxing and swordplay (if I'm not mistaken, this was part of Watson's summary of Holmes' characteristics). So the side of Holmes that the movie shows probably is the side of Holmes that we don't get to read about, but exists.

Yes; people always overlook that fundamental fact. :grey:

Plus it means Watson now has personality, rather than just being Holmes's translator into simple english.

True on so many levels, dude. Watson seriously needs more love.

No wonder there's a kink meme for it already. XD

Holy crap! Conan Doyle must be rolling in his grave right now... :payne:

The whole dinner scene I interpreted as "Holmes being a characteristically analytical bastard", not "Holmes being jealous over Watson's girlfriend". And it's not like there's a scene of Holmes angsting about it or whatever. He is too cool for angst XD

Amen to that, dude! Besides, Sherlock really is an ass at times... :grey:
