'Remember back when we were talking about a law floating around Japan that would ban any sort of underage girl in any sort of explicit situation? Well that law might be dead in Japan, but in the UK a law just like it was passed and is now in effect! Basically the “ Dangerous Cartoon” act, or the “ Coroners and Justice Act 2009” will make anyone owning a picture, movie, video game, etc. that has a character that looks like a child and in a sexual situation, can face up to 3 years of prison time. Which bans almost every hentai manga or anime, and can even make watching some mainstream shows completely illegal.

Who knows where they draw the line? The only thing that is saving this law is that it is so outrageous that there can be no possible way they can enforce it, without throwing many thousands of people into jail.'

None of the above is my content.

Bleh. Not bothered. This is just like when Britain decided to ban people from watching music videos on Youtube - oh, how well that went.

That has got to be the most ridiculous law ever ever created. They're gonna realize that they'll find a way to avoid that law.

Here's the actual law.

Apparently child is defined as "person under eighteen". There goes half the internet.

That's rendonkulous, in a bad way.

...... Would this mean no Cardcaptor Sakura? (Haha, you'd have to know a pretty deep level of character basis in two characters to realize the possibility of this.)

Either way, the UK can obviously kiss the Utena series goodbye. (Goodbye brother-loving sisters!) *should be shot, yes?*

I'm not so worried about the anime problem....

Games are the ones that bother me, just in case there's something unreasonable in a game series I like.
I'm trying to think how old Ling Xiahou from Tekken is and whether her traditional japanese schoolgirl outfit would make the games banned.

I've never played Tekken, but I'm sure video games will be protected through much ridiculous censorship when shipped over. They'll probably cut out or alter explicit or suggestive acts, lengthen someone's skirt, or let the camera shoot a person from the shoulders up, if need be. I remember when the first Xenosaga came out, there was a scene where an adult male was supposed to stick his hand inside the body of a character who basically resembled a young girl. Not in a sexual way, mind you, (to clarify, the guy could alter his own body's structure on a molecular level and make his hand pass through the surface of the girl's stomach) but the implications and suggestions of such an act, as well as everything leading up to the act, caused the people working on the English version to change it to some weird mind-rape incident via glowing, hovering hand. (Not that it made any sense to do this, considering they just left all the underaged panty shots in the game.)

Honestly, I don't see this as that big of a problem as long as Britain does not go over board and start banning everything that can be remotely taken the wrong way; however, I do admit that there is far too much pedophilia (or borderline pedophilia) in Japanese work and...well...it's just immoral to promote pedophilia.

The world can do without the Pearl porn...I know my eyes wish this law was implemented long ago, internet wide...

Most everything will be fine, I think. The law explicitly states that it only applies to works that are strictly pornographic in nature.

I'm pretty sure that the EU is preventing the law from being enforced, somehow.

Edit: Nope, it's just come into power 3 days ago. Looks like I'll have to throw away my early volumes of dragonball then...

Edit Edit:
Quote:

Ahhh. Well then it looks like non-hentai anime and manga are safe then.

SUPER EDIT:
Here is a section of the law, with emphasised added by me on the parts that are most important.
Quote:
(3) An image is “pornographic” if it is of such a nature that it must reasonably be assumed to have been produced solely or principally for the purpose of sexual arousal.

(4) Where (as found in the person’s possession) an image forms part of a series of images, the question whether the image is of such a nature as is mentioned in subsection (3) is to be determined by reference to—

(a) the image itself, and

(b) (if the series of images is such as to be capable of providing a context for the image) the context in which it occurs in the series of images.

(5) So, for example, where—

(a) an image forms an integral part of a narrative constituted by a series of images, and

(b) having regard to those images as a whole, they are not of such a nature that they must reasonably be assumed to have been produced solely or principally for the purpose of sexual arousal,

the image may, by virtue of being part of that narrative, be found not to be pornographic, even though it might have been found to be pornographic if taken by itself.

It looks like the government have tried their hardest to exclude all non-pornographic anime and manga from being prosecutable. Whether it works in practice, who can say.

Plus they can't search your house or computer until they formally suspect you of a crime.

Uninforcable, i say.
That obliterates tons of revenue in books and dvd salesfor certain companies in a single sweep.
And anyway-how'll they know if we have any, even created by ourselves? Cameras in homes, bugs on the ceilings and all that? Geez, talk about a watched country.
And now instead of Speakeasies, there'll be Sleaze-easies xD

I can't say i'm wanting the law to be abolished, however...
This will wipe out much of it, and you can tell the rules will do one of two things
1) Get looser until there is basically no law
2) GO REALLY MOTHERFRAWKIN STRICT and if a girls skirt is above her knee it must be burned with fire immediatley!

Honestly, I dont think this will last very long.

Already behind on the subject (as so is probably everyone else at this point) but I'm certain it just means products specifically made for arousal that will be in question. Official products like Metal Gear and movies discussing child abuse will be fine.
What's hilariously stupid is that if caught, the court will determine whether the character in the drawing, etc is a child or not.

Advice: Got caught? Just bring up the Gary Coleman excuse and you'll be leaving in flying colours.
