Power Rangers was one of those franchises that every kid in the 90's grew up with. Being Saban's take on the popular Super Sentai franchise from Japan (where a bunch of teenagers/adults donned colour suits and helmets to defeat funny looking villains) it was Americanised and pretty much almost changed completely (from Might Morphin' Power Rangers all the way to Power Rangers: Wild Force, that's eight series!).

After Wild Force, however, Disney took over the production of Power Rangers. Six series later, from Ninja Storm to R.P.M., Disney finally decided to pull the plug last year. This year is the Power Rangers' last airing in the USA (for now, it seems), with Mighty Mrophin' Power Rangers being "remastered". A cluster fuck of Batman 'biff', 'bam', 'pow' bubbles and various other comic effects. Honestly, Disney should not have been allowed to try and kiddify something already aimed at children. I would have prefered the rumoured remake.

Well, anyway, after having a part of my childhood raped, we should reminisce! What was your favourite Power Rangers series as you grew up? Did you even watch it? Do you still watch it?

Personally, I obviously no longer watch it. My favourite series while growing up had to be Power Rangers Zeo. Honestly, that opening is still freakin' kick ass 12 years later (seeing as it didn't air till later in Australia).

(Yes, I did place this in the correct sub-forum now, hopefully. That's what I get for waking up early and never having posted in Global Studio before).

The only power rangers I could ever watch was the very first season.

Oh childhood, where have you gone?

I think Wild Force was my favourite one when I was a kid. Or Time Force, which was the one before Wild Focre, don't really remember. I remember watching Ninja Storm (or "The One With The Guinea Pig"), which came after WF, and thinking "What the fuck is this shit", and then giving Dino Thunder, which came after NS, a chance. And I gave up. I watched the premier of S.P.D. (which came after DT), and never again. My childhood died the day that the first S.P.D. episode aired.

Mind you, I don't remember the order of the series, I used Wikipedia to refresh my memory. But I do remember watching them as I said so.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Disney pretty much screwed up what Power Rangers was anyway.

I'd be the same as you. Ninja Storm just killed it for me, Dino Thunder slightly redeemed itself, but S.P.D....well, the most I liked there was the morph sequence. Did you know that they had a suit upgrade superceeded in one episode after it was introduced? The Red Ranger got some super armour, but then "S.W.A.T. mode" was introduced, superior to the Super Suit as all rangers could use it. It was honestly...retarded.

I learned about Power Rangers through my older brother who used to play the original's theme song on his guitar. Regardless, the only seasons I watched were Light Speed Rescue and Time Force, and that was before I hit the awkward transitioning period between childhood and becoming a teenager, and everything that flashed incandescently and called its attacks was universally deemed "kiddy".

I have no interest in the series anymore.

Yep, and so you were forced onto drinking and drugs, amirite?

During that awkward transition I was constantly on the move, so I didn't really have any peers trying to "make me mature".

My favorite series were Mighty Morphin, Turbo, Space, Time Force, Wild Force, Dino Thunder and a little bit of Ninja Storm.

I think its time that our localized series of the sentai craze should die peacefully. :grossburg: I wonder how Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight would last...

I was a pretty faithful viewer back in the Mighty Morphin' days but by the time Zeo began airing, I had long since renounced those shows. I jumped ship shortly after Lord Zedd showed up. Back when I was watching, I had two favorite Rangers: Blue and Green. I'm not sure why but for some reason, I always kind of hated Jason...

Well, that is a fair few favourites. xD

Hm, I don't think Kamen Roder would fair that great...the only thing seemingly more lame then a group of people dressed in single colours with helmets is a man dressed as a bug that rides a motocycle.

Yeah, due to Australia often airing these series late I actually got to see all three seasons of MMPR and PRZ one after the other, so I hadn't grown out of it yet. I did go back to watch a bit of S.P.D. though...I don't know why.

To me...it had to be Green and White/Gold.

My favorite is the original and the one with the robot doods. I like how each one just moves into the next instead of each one is a new separate thing.

So they remastered the original? So this is why I'm seeing the older zoid toy on tv.

I like wild force. Especially the blue ranger, because he was a shark.

And sharks are cool.

My favorite was the original run before they started changing the names of the shows. I stopped watching finally when they got rid of the rest of the semi-original cast (Tommy and the replacements for Kimberly, Jason, Trini, and Zack). I tried to watch it with the all new cast (the one I remembered the most was the little kid Blue Ranger), but I had grown out of it by that time.

My favorites were Green/White and Pink. I so pissed when Amy Jo Johnson left the show and was replaced by Kat (I don't recall the actresses name).

I think one of my favorite plot lines, corny as it was at the time, was the Rita and Zedd wedding/marriage. No way that was in the original Japanese version (I believe Zedd was an American creation when they didn't want to use the footage from the season that comes after Kyoryu Sentai Zsu Ranger)

My favorite non-ranger characters were Bulk and Skull. Those guys were freaking awesome, but so terribly not really punk at all. I liked it when they tried to clean up their act and become police officers. Also, I remember them trying to hide Goldar and Rito in their garage.

It's sad to see Disney try to make this show into something it's not. They should just leave the classics alone.

The original for the Win. I watched every episode up until the Dinosaurs were destroyed..Or was it sealed? I don't recall...

I was so sad because they were Dinosaurs and Dinosaurs are awesome.

And I still think this is the worlds best T.V show opening.

Hey, guess what guys? This topic title is still accurate... but for a very different reason. It's the end of one era, and the beginning of another... Saban bought back the rights to Power Rangers. And Nickelodeon has already ordered 20 new episodes. (presumably with more to follow if it does well).

Current rumors are that it's going to be based on Shinkenger rather than Goseiger, which makes sense since Goseiger isn't over yet... and also because Shinkenger is just better than Goseiger.

Huh....Sounds okay. So another American Ranger era may start.

I can't remember which series I grew up with. It was either the original, Zeo or Wild Force.

Has anyone else been watching Linkara's History of Power Rangers series? It's gotten me so nostalgic.

Oh, and Zeo has my favourite version of the theme.

Thanks.

I was recalling the Power Ranger's movie the other day. The first theatrical one, not the glorified tv episode they did later. I remember thinking it was so cool when I was a kid, but then I saw it on tv at about 4 am a few years ago. It was so lame. How time changes perceptions.

And from Power Rangers sprung forth so many knock-offs attempting the same formula: VR Troopers, Super Human Samurai Cyber Squad, Big Bad Beetle Borgs, and the lamest, Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills. I guess you could through Masked Rider in there, but that's not a sentai show and Kamen Rider had it's own long running tradition in Japan before they attempted to bring it here. In general though, Japanese footage spliced with new American footage was a cost effective way to make money in the mid-nineties. However, the Power Ranger's franchise did it the best, hence, why it was around the longest.

Haha. I'm just re-watching the series from the beginning now and have Seasons 1-3 on my computer at the moment. I went out and bought a Power Rangers t-shirt a couple of weeks ago and the other day, I saw a Power Rangers hoodie on the clearance rack at Hot Topic and almost died. *snuggles into it*

Anyway, I started watching this series when it first aired, back when I was four years old! I only ever watched up to the end of Zeo I'll admit. Then I gave up. Too many of my favorite characters had left the show and I decided to stop watching. As a kid, though, it was the most exciting goddamn thing I'd ever seen and I just about shit myself when the movie came out. I recall that all my friends loved Tommy or Jason; the boys thought they were kick-ass and the girls thought they were cute and heroic. I liked Billy. Even to this day, there's something pretty damn awesome about a highly intelligent, geeky, socially awkward kid in overalls who can morph into an absolute ass-kicker and battle strategist. As a little kid I liked to point out to my friends that Tommy and Jason wouldn't have had a chance to even fight the monster if it weren't for something Billy had invented, which happened more times than I can count. Plus, he had a freakin' UNICORN as his Thunderzord. It's like... Robot Unicorn Attack before Robot Unicorn Attack. TRICERATOPS UNICORN THUNDERZORD POWER!! Rawr. :3

Even as a little kid, I remember Tommy began to irk me after a while. I preferred him as the Green Ranger and the sort of Dark Horse of the team. It upset me that when Zordon created the White Ranger, Jason was instantly bumped from his position as leader. It didn't make sense to me. Jason had always seemed like the leader. Tommy was that cool guy who would show up when they were in a pinch or was simply Jason's equal. Red and Green were totally bros! The White Ranger era was when I started to get... eh. He seemed too convenient. Then when Jason, Zack and Trini left for the Peace Conference, I freaked. Jason had been my second favorite character. I never got used to Rocky and Aisha really, but I did adore Adam. He's just... ah, so adorable! Then Kimberly left. I spazzed out again; I always hated Kat. I really, really hated her. She seemed so far short of the awesome character that Kim was. Even though Jason came back for a stint as the Gold Ranger in Zeo, I pretty much hung up the towel when Billy decided to stay on Aquitar. I watched the rest of the season, because he'd come back from the planet once before, but when I didn't see him again I gave up. All the original Rangers (Tommy wasn't really original, technically) had gone so that was it for me. I really enjoy Billy's character development across four seasons the most out of anything.

I never really bothered with anything after Zeo. I did watch one or two of the "remastered" original episodes that aired. Big mistake. My childhood was raped. Those stupid effects they added... feh. They never released the series to DVD either. Which is a shame, because I'd totally love to have them to hold onto. They're still kind of fun for me to watch, despite how horribly cheesy and 90s they are. I'm a sucker for GO TEAM sorts of things.

For shits and giggles, how many of you have watched the unaired pilot episode? It's hilarious. I found myself thanking whatever deity was readily available that this incarnation never came to fruition:

Part I
Part II
Part III

Stranger Danger: HOLY SHIT YOU'RE NOT TRINI. D:

And here are a few more videos that you might find fun to watch:
Morphicon: Power rangers Attempting to Morph - Former Power Rangers actors trying to remember their morphing sequences at a panel during Power Morphicon. Walter Jones ftw.
Power Morphicon: Bulk's Entrance - Because I always loved Bulk and Skull. These two actors? Amazing.
Paulie on Jason Frank and the Skull Laugh! - Man, these two! They still crack me up.

Obviously, you can find your way around the related videos sidebar, but I thought I'd link a few. Because I find them pretty amusing. So yeah.

And like it was mentioned before, I did read somewhere that the franchise was being picked up by Saban for another season. If that's the case, I believe I'll give it a watch when it premiers, if only to satisfy my curiosity. The general consensus being that Disney raped the show, I'm definitely interested in what Saban would do with it back their hands. </end wall o' text>

Haha, yeah! I remember watching an episode of Trigun at some ungodly hour of the morning way back when on my eighth grade class trip and thinking, "Adam? Is that you?" LAWL. He was so cute as Adam, though! Damn. Sometimes I completely forget that he has quite a few anime VAing jobs under his belt and I say good for him! I'm glad he still has an active career.

But deep down, he'll always be Black Ranger Numero Dos for me. :gant:

VR Troopers...! xDDD That was the last holdout for me before I completely abandoned the genre. Did Grimlord's lips ever move more than half an inch? Looking back, Jeb was probably the best thing that show had to offer.

I loved it when Fox Kids played an episode of power rangers from each series. I loved Wild Force and Mighty Morphan the most. I think a couple of episodes there were some where the power rangers from a different series came in to help.

I don't really remember it much though. I was about 5 when I started watching it and 10 when I stopped.
