This is totally remnding me of the Phoenix wright manga where maya gets the wrong idea of godot loving her, then pearly slapping him in the face, causing a nosebleed. Then godot says a 'cool' quote and phoenix is like,
'PLEASE wipe the blood of your face before you try to act cool!'
Um...Coffee metaphors...I suck at these. I'd like to do something about coffee not being able to grow if it weren't for the farmers, but i can't think of a context to fit it in, or to make it sound cool...someone do it for me.
There has to be a gag where someone gets him a decaf coffee and hes all like 'wut.'

Like, the basic points but not exactly perfect yet. I'll look at real cases for case 2 onwards, maybe.
Assuming you know exactly what happens in the case, who the falsely declared guilty is, the victim the real killer and obviously a 4th or 5th person, I think you should probably make an inventory of the pieces of evidence you're going to need in the case. Then you can see how and where they can be found and in what way they can be mistaken. For that, you need to have a clear outline of the plot so that it can all confuse but eventually come together.
And for inspiration, real cases are a must I think. I'm guessing that the writers for the original game must have drawn on some real stuff. It can't all be off the top of their heads.
