Maybe not best old-school EVER, but definitely high on the list. I also submit Banjo-Tooie as well, though I preferred the original. I never finished B-K either, making it to I think Mad Monster Mansion. I did however finish Mario 64, but never did collect all 120 stars.

I also throw down Conker's Bad Fur Day, most likely one of the strangest things Rare ever released. (Still awesome, though.)

Mario 64 was a game that should have been made several years later, when the internet made info readily available.

Heck, the only reason I beat it was because I had several game fanatic friends whose combined knowledge told me how to get all the stars.

I was never able to go into all the doors with Starman on them. I gave up. I just liked the coin mini-game where you jump into the window and slide down the big rug thingy. :pearl:

Haha, are you serious? I beat that thing easy and got all the stars in the first month. And this was before I had the intarwebs. I got so bored I'd make a "game" out of triggering the 1UP outside the castle and seeing how far I could go without allowing Mario to receive it. I'd shoot Mario out of a cannon and let the 1UP chase me to the top of the castle, then drop Mario down into the empty moat so that he would die. Hilariously enough, I found out that the 1UP gets you on your next life.

Of course, I didn't have much of a life back then :P

I can now from memory, but that's mostly because I was raised on brutal, unforgiving platformers, so Mario's now a walk in the park.

(You can thank things like Battletoads and MM for that.)

What's so funny? Kirby is awesome! Though I've unfortunately never finished Crystal Shards, I only played it once at a friends and finished the first world.

I will definitely throw down Kirby Superstar as a cornerstone of my childhood.

Neither did I, I just sucked at platformers until I got the Rare treatment.

I have, though I've never owned the game. I don't think it was as terrible as people seem to think, though it was really zarking easy.

Ehh... I've always been partial to the classic green, but that's just my opinion.

I'd also throw down the red and the darker blue.

I used to eat that, hahaha. The shapes looked nothing like Mario or Link and it tasted suspiciously like that shitty berry Kix cereal.
