I searched for a topic for this and didn't find anything. Since the game does have a unique way of spelling the title, though, I apologize if I overlooked an already-made topic.


Imagine if LittleBigPlanet's creative freedom in designing everything you can imagine was combined with a Mario Kart-like premise and online gameplay. That in a nutshell is ModNation Racers for the PS3 and PSP. It's a kart racing game, said by many to potentially be the best kart racer not on a Nintendo console. The game allows you to modify everything - your character, your kart, even your own tracks from the ground up, with an extensive in-game editor.


So, anyone else looking forward to this? It drops at a rather inconvenient date, with two other largely hyped racing games on the same console (Split/Second and Blur) and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii coming out within the same week, but hopefully it'll still do well regardless. If anyone's on the fence about it, the PSP demo is already on the Playstation Network and the PS3 demo will be out on May 18th. Even better, anything made in the demo version will automatically be carried over to the retail copy of the game.

I really enjoy LBP so I was looking forward to the game, then I kind of forgot about it for a while. Kart games are cute but I don't really have time to invest in creating tracks and such, so I dunno how much value I'll get out of it. But I do plan on playing the demo before I make up my mind.

EDIT: Okay so I played the demo and made a bunch of cute little mods, and realized it was too amusing not to buy. I'm still making my way through career mode, but I was able to download mods for Mario, Earthworm Jim, and Danger Mouse. DANGER MOUSE! I even saw a GIZMODUCK!! MDR have the best mods.

The racing itself is fast and fun, but the computer plays really dirty. It's kind of irritating when you're trying to do specific achievements just to unlock more dress-up clothes. I'm still getting used to the controls and learning which attacks are best (since they're not different colored shells :P) but I'm enjoying it.

Now I need to make Edgeworth and his sports car...

Hmm, guess no one but me got this game. But just in case, I made a Blue, Pink, and Bad Badger racer (with cars!) so check them out! I wish I could make a Watergate Land track but the props you have access to are pretty generic.

I got the game as well, and after beating the story mode and making an endless amount of tracks, mods and karts, I decided to take a break. A few of my best:




I also tried making Phoenix, though it didn't turn out very well.


His skin and suit colors came out wrong and the hair isn't great, but it's a start. I do like the way I arranged some stickers to make his tie. That, and I was lucky enough to get him in that pose when I took the picture.
