Spoiler: Replies (Contains major spoilers)

•While Apollo properly introduces himself, Phoenix and Trucy, he never explains his bracelet, which is mentioned several times throughout the case.
Hmm...I originally included that in the Demo however people said to take it out because it removed the flair of the bracelet...if that makes sense.
•Apollo's badge is in the Court Record, but his bracelet isn't.
The bracelet isn't meant to be in the Court Record because...it isn't really a key piece of evidence. It proves to be useless in the end.
•Lenard's original court sprite is still used.
What do you mean? I thought I replaced the old sprites with the new one.
•When Apollo scratches his head, the sprite jarringly moves up and down.
My apologies. Saluk already pointed this out. It was a fault of the original Apollo port package however when I originally replaced it, a lot of the animations were changed. I could have fixed this but it meant coming through the script and delaying it even more. This is the same as Ema.
•During Cross Examinations, it still says Testimony on the left.
It does? I've never noticed. I'll check though.
•Weike's sweating will sometimes stop.
I don't know if this is a problem with Pywright but I've noticed that as well. Unfortunately, I don't know what to do.
•Every time it switches to Weike while in his serious pose, his hair bobs; this animation is only supposed to be used when going from a standing position to that one.
Crap...I thought I fixed that one as well. I just checked my folders and it seems I forgot to put in seriousbob and seriousnobob. I'll fix this in the script and check it again.
•When you complete a chapter and it says "to be continued", there's no save prompt.
Matx of the Pywright forums has actually developed a save prompt however he hasn't released it yet so most don't include one in their cases.
•In the Prosecutor's Lobby, when you examine the couch or painting the text extend past the edge of the screen.
Just tried it now and I thought I fixed this one as well because StBacchus pointed that out.
•In the newspaper picture, part of Leroy's nose is missing from where you removed the cut.
...Damn.
•Leroy's animations all seem... fast.
They shouldn't be...I just sheeted them in the same way I did with Lenard and Weike.
•When Leroy switches to his normal pose, he moves to the right. Even if it puts his elbow off-screen, his torso should remain in the same place.
Hmm...this is easily solved by either resheeting or using x=<insert co-ordinates>. I will have to resheet it since AAO will not allow the second method.

Now, here are a few suggestions. Four or five times throughout the case, someone says, "Objection!", causing everyone else to look surprised and go, "...". I could understand this once, maybe twice, but it happens repeatedly. You could also have Payne object when he finds you in the Prosecutor's Lobby, since his facial expression doesn't convey how annoyed the dialog seems to suggest he is. For Lenard's thinking animation, why not just add more frames? If you can't make a single frame last two seconds, make twenty frames of the same thing that last 1/10th of a second each.
Saluk pointed that out however I thought it wasn't that bad since the overused Objection! really only occurs in the first part of the trial. However, I will take this into consideration and good idea about Payne. I'll make those changes asap along with Lenard's thinking animation.

I also have a few critiques on the logic flow. The big one is the ending; I understand that what breaks Leroy is his envy, and that the key will be explained later, but Apollo was told that it was found on the victim's body. Lenard said that he thought it belonged to Leroy, which suggests that it's evidence of a confrontation between the two of them. Why didn't Apollo even mention this in court? If Leroy really did kill Carter for the key, then... Why did he just leave it there? The ending also felt a little rushed, especially since, as far as I could tell, there was nothing worth convicting Leroy on. Leroy is pressured and pops the basketball, but unless I'm misremembering he doesn't confess or anything like that. How is Apollo asking questions and Leroy being angry different from Apollo asking questions and Weike being nervous?
This is where it gets complicated. Originally, Lenard was going to get a guilty verdict however I decided to change it and leave the end of the trial incredibly confusing. You are right - there is no actual decisive evidence to convict Leroy on. He only was convicted because he had a breakdown and the jurists' decided he was guilty.
Another point was the crime scene photo. It took me quite a while to figure out what I was supposed to point out on it, since the obvious problem with the picture was that not only was there no sign that Carter had been shot, but there wasn't even a bit of blood on the lockers, his clothing, or even his hat. I eventually pointed out the object on the floor, even though I couldn't tell what it was, and it turned out to be blood. It was later revealed, by Apollo no less, that there are shards of glass along with the blood. Maybe, when the picture is first presented, the judge could ask what the things on the floor are? Otherwise, it seems like Apollo has information that the player doesn't...
Saluk also had this problem but the other beta-testers didn't. I found that odd however you are the player so I'll do what you asked. In the next update of Case 1, I'll edit the crime photo along with adding some dialogue.

The last thing I wanted to mention was a few loose ends. Even though there's a positive ID on the murder weapon due to the ballistic markings, it's never introduced into evidence. Guns are incredibly illegal in Japan (or future California), but nobody even asks where it came from, and it's never explained why Lenard is holding it. He probably picked it up before seeing the blood, or maybe Leroy somehow got it into his hands while he was catatonic, but it's never explained. The other one is that Carter called Lenard down to the lockers immediately before he died, Lenard saw Leroy leave in a car, but Leroy managed to return to the lockers and kill Carter before Lenard got down there. How did he pull that off?
As I said...this is meant to be a very, very confusing trial. When I first thought of Justice's Memoirs, I wanted the first case to be simple when you started it but then it got very confusing. That includes all of your points.

1. Why was the gun never introduced into the Court Record...? The Prosecution clearly had it but they never brought it out so why did Payne do that?
2. How did Leroy get a gun? He's just a basketball player...or maybe he isn't...?
3. Why was Lenard holding the gun? It is implied that he picked it up however what if this wasn't the case? Think about that.
4. Carter called Lenard to the lockers but Lenard saw Leroy leave in a car. If he managed to get back to the lockers and kill Coach then how was that possible? How did he get back to the court in time, get into the lockers and kill Coach and then escape? Think about that.

I'm glad you enjoyed it because to be honest, I don't like Turnabout Shot Dunk because I've been working on it for over 6 months however when you mentioned those inconsistencies...it changed. Once again, the whole point of this case is meant to be utterly confusing and should end with the player feeling very confused.

However, you did point out a few mistakes I made that need to be corrected, so I'll go fix them as soon as possible.

This was a very nice case that I decided (AHEM) to do one of those categorized reviews.
Let's start. :maya:

Story: This was original in any Ace Attorney (Fan)game. Basketball players? WEAK BASKETBALL PLAYERS?!?! This is amazing. The buildup was OK but I found there was only some excitement there. In this area I give a 9/10. Nice Job Tap!

Sprites: OH LORDY, THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST PART OF THE GAME! Chesu, dude, YOU ARE A SPRITING GOD! All of the OC characters are amazingly well done and very AA style like. I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom asked you to sprite some characters! Keep it up! 10/10

Characters: All new characters were all nicely developed. I think a little more background info would've been nice for this case, but hey, its a first case anyway. 9/10.

Dialogue: There were only few grammar mistakes in here that I picked. Nothing too big, but if you need a grammar beta tester, I'll be glad to do help you. :phoenix:

Some parts of dialogue in my opinion were just a little bit rushed, [inside joke]but hey, I'm right handed, so, yeah...[/inside joke] 9/10. :udgy:

Music: One song I made got in here. (Perceive to be exact) So I won't count that. But everyone else who made music did a very nice job a deserves a good pat on the back. I barely have any music skill so thanks to you guys for stepping in. 9/10

Extra Features: I didn't like the logic that much because, well, it didn't have the logic graphics. But the functionality was perfect so I guess it doesn't matter. On the other hand, I loved warped perceive and how it functions. Its like a combination of psyche-lock, and the original percieve. Again, a 9/10

Overall, I give this fangame a 9/10

Can't wait to see case 2!!! :pearl:

The fact that is really only happens in the first part is even more reason to change it. That means that you have a bunch in a row, instead of nicely spread out, making it really annoying. If you made it faster, or showed less people, that would make it better...

If Leroy really did kill Carter for the key, then... Why did he just leave it there?
You didn't addressed this, and I think it's a valid point.

Another point was the crime scene photo. IIRC, the crime photo in the original AAO version was a lot clearer. Perhaps the beta-testers played the AAO version and remember it? But the same thing happened to me; I tried pointing out that Carter had no blood on him, and then I tried pointing out that there wasn't a light on the ceiling (that we could see), and I finally just pointed out that random stuff on the floor.

I really mean no offense, but to me the ending seemed less "confusing" and more "badly done" =\ It feels like Leroy was randomly convicted out of nowhere despite there still being a ton of stuff left unsolved. I thinking having Leroy confess would make it a lot better, because then it'll be, "I didn't figure out about XYZ, but Leroy confessed, so I guess I don't need to."

Another I would like to say is that there's two W's on the map, but you never say which one is afro-guy and which one is Leroy. (...or at least it was really quick and I missed it.) If afro-guy was the W on the left, then he would've been able to see the crime and there wouldn't be a contradiction.

Also, the final present didn't make much sense to me. "My brother killed our coach to get some random key instead of our of envy? Oh, that's fine then."

As for the whole gun thing: The US version of AJ takes place in the USA. The JP version of AJ takes place in JP. So you can do a bit of handwaving to say "he got it from a good old american pawn shop"

Good point. I ended up playing Case 1 again last night (to test the sprite problem) and I see what you mean. This was the same as the AAO demo though...the only extra objections are in Weike's testimony.

I've added a bit of extra dialogue to Scene9.present and Scene15.script to make everything flow better however the key will never be actually explained in Case 1. It will be explained later on. :karma:

Problem with Crime Photo
I still have the original crime photo and compared them. The AAO version was definitely clear so I went and changed the one in the folders and added extra dialogue when you first receive the crime photo.

Lol, it's okay. The truth is what you said. Leroy was randomly convicted out of nowhere despide there still being a ton of stuff left unsolved. Originally, he did confess (AAO Demo) and then I changed his personality. It didn't really fit when I tested the dialogue so I removed him confessing. I've added more to the ending to explain things a bit better.

...Good point. I've never considered that. I'll change the script slightly so that when you first receive the map, you only see one witness. After Leroy is introduced, there will be extra dialogue and then, Payne will update the map again with Leroy's position.

Also...it's not really meant to make much sense. As I said, I added extra dialogue. This dialogue is basically a few extra lines from Apollo commenting about "so many mysteries..." and "What was the significance of that key...?"

Right, this was a fun case. Apollo was in chracter, Trucy was funny, and the Judge... well, you wrote him perfectly. But Payne was actually acting like a good prosecutor and was a bit more, well, arrogant and less pathetic than he usually is. You could say he was more like a normal prosecutor than himself actually. Not to say that I didn't like him, it's just that I feel you boosted the egocentric part of his personality and the vengeous (sp?) parts a wee bit too much.

Now for error reports (and a thing that probably wasn't an error):

Thanks for your comments, BSX. I'll reply to each point in bullet point form.

*The point about Payne is simple. Just like how the gun was never introduced, there is a reason as to why Payne is much more arrogant and a better prosecutor than before.
*I've changed the ending slightly so it doesn't seemed as rushed.

I just got done playing this a while ago, and I was very impressed with it. Very well written, the sprites were well made, the story was great, and the music choices were great as well. It was a great start and I hope to see more from this game :odoroki:

When you get errors (the white box) it usually helps to know what the error is. Without that, and since no one else gets the error, it's impossible to know what's going on. All errors are saved to lastlog.txt and loghistory.txt by the way, although lastlog.txt is cleared each time you run PyWright again.

The error has been figured out, saluk. BSX was playing JM on Beta 10.94 and at the time, myfail hadn't been incorporated yet.

General Update. I've decided to add a Perceive into the game to make it better. Although the graphics won't be as big, you'll still be able to see the contradiction and can point it out. Warped Perceive will begin after you point out the contradiction!

Current list of stuff to do for Case 1: Turnabout Shot Dunk.

Each custom character in Case 2 has their own base sprite (excluding two characters). There are eight custom characters in total because not only is there a flashback case in it, but even the Judge is new. Still, this will probably change since I'm reconsidering the roles of three characters. :)

When I re-release Case 1 with all the updates to it, I will show you all a few screenshots of Case 2. ;)

Updated Version

Sorry for the wait everyone! I've fixed everything. The delay was caused by the Perceive which ended up being cut out (lol) because of problems contradicting one of the two custom features in Case 2.

Everything except Leroy's sprite problems were fixed. Since it will be impossible to use the x=[x] method on Ace Attorney Online and I had transparency issues with the 256x192 versions, Leroy's sprites will remain the same however I will release an updated version again or an artpack if people think this is a major bug. However I did correct something small involving the frames in the damage talk sprite.

UPDATE!

Hi everyone! It's been a while hasn't it? Anyway, I'm just here to give you an update on JM. Case 2 has been renamed and the location where the murder takes place has changed as well. But don't worry since everything is working out better now. :)

I'm now on my winter holiday break so I'll have much more time to write the script and code. If everything goes well, Case 2 will be out by the end of July. :phoenix:

I've recruited two new sprite artists and an actual digital artist to help out. There will be new box art soon and hopefully the trailer will be done by the end of the month but I can't guarantee anything. ;p

Now I need to inform you all of something - Case 1 is currently being revamped, or rather the investigation and Trial Latter is. I didn't really explain the whole logic part very well so I've changed that. I'm going to have Phoenix make an appearance and explain it to Apollo, referencing how Edgeworth investigates. ;)

Trial Latter is being completely revamped with new testimonies, an actual perceive and a more arrogant Winston Payne. :karma:

I am doing this because I took all the dialogue for Trial Latter from the AAO Demo. It's very old and needs to be done again. As I said, I'm adding a perceive like I planned originally. I contradicted the plot several times by removing it. :payne:

Luckily, I have actual perceive sprites so I'm expecting to release the revamped Case 1 in a week. :)

UPDATE!

Hi everyone! This is just another Progress Report however it's very important as I'll be talking about two very important issues relating to the game. Of course, they are the revamped Trial Latter of Case 1 and Case 2. But first...

I will be going to Japan tomorrow and won't be back till the 15th of July meaning that JM is on hiatus till then.

Turnabout Shot Dunk News

Unfortunately, I could not finish the revamp in time however the script is coming along nicely. Here are a few details about the new Trial Latter.

The revamped Trial Latter is similar to the original however it is also very different. It has five testimonies and a perceive which will end in a similar style to the original final testimony. All the graphics are done and the script is nearly complete so all that is left is to code it when I come back from Japan.

Case 2 News

This news is very important but don't worry since this is not a new development. However, I left the announcement till the last minute.

Episode 2 - Turnabout Compulsion has been abandoned. Why? The case fell apart since I started development on it. There were too many changes to it so it wouldn't break canon, flow better and would be more relevant to the plot. Eventually, it got to the point where I couldn't figure out what the second half of the case would be like after the final change to the location where the murder took place.

Plus, the case reminded me a bit too much of Turnabout Scapegoat, especially because of the planned flashback. It was too similar in my opinion so. :/

However, I have been working on the new Case 2! Instead of TC, I will be making the former Episode 3 - Mysterious Sirens and Turnabouts which will bring JM down to four cases. Instead of a pure AAI case, it will be in AA style however there will be AAI gameplay in the middle if the feature is finished in time, which it probably will be. :)

Luckily, all the sprites that were currently in development by my dev team are the main OC's meaning the characters that were set to appear in the rest of the cases.

I've already got the case plotted out and now, I'm bringing it all together in a single word document. It's coming along nicely and I've already done about 3/4 of it.

Turnabout Shot Dunk News

As you all know, Case 1 is being revamped however what you don't know is that this is a complete overhaul of the original case. I've started it again from scratch with the complete sprites, the original plans and the completed former case. It took a while however a new case overview was completed - with new testimonies, new elements and a much more interesting plot~

The basics are still the same - i.e. The defendant is Lenard Daniels and he's accused of his Coach's murders. The witnesses are the same except that they have new testimonies because the case was approached at with a different angle. Since I abandoned the former Case 2, I tied in a few elements from that into this case which as I said, created a more interesting plot. :)

The expected release date is the 15th of August though I am aiming to complete it by the 8th as it won't take that long. Beta-testing will be required but I'll talk about that later to the release date~

It will be in your best interest to download the new Case 1 when it's out and play it again since not only is it much different but it's connected to the series more unlike the current version...

Mysterious Sirens and Turnabouts News

Development for Case 2 is going great and has never been better! The case overview needs to be refined a bit but it's basically complete. The dialogue is under way and a bit of coding has been done for some of the dialogue. Sprites for the characters have been assigned and are coming along nicely. In fact, one character nearly has a full sheet of emotions~

Screenshots for the new Case 2 will come soon but only after the new Case 1 is out. In the mean time, why not play Turnabout Substitution or Scapegoat? :karma:

Also, please enjoy the new box art. It features two of the five main OC's in JM.

First off, I wanna say that I love guys like you who wanna continue the series in a unique, interesting way. But secondly, At the beginning of Case 1, Apollo is walking away from Wright, Trucy, Gavin, and everyone else for something he did, then flashes back to the present first case. This implies that this all ends with Apollo stopping being an attorney. Please do not end it this way, because I have seen several great fan-cases screw it up by giving the super sad ending, which is not the Ace Attorney way. All the games end with something of a happy note. Just a warning, because everything else looks amazing. Again, please do not end it like that.

Programming

As announced previously, I was having trouble with Case 1's overview however thanks to the amazing ShadowEdgeworth, we combined ideas and managed to produce a lovely new overview that has many new elements and is now more substantial. :)

As such, the new Case 1 is being programmed into PyWright. No deadline will be given but I have a personal one set and hopefully I'll finish it and release it on time. :)

Ooh, who's that? Well, all I can say that this is a character appearing in Case 2 in the first investigation. He will be coming to the stands and testifying. ;)

And our main characters for court - From left to right: Edgeworth (Prosecutor), Ballard (Judge), Phoenix (Co-council) and Apollo (Defense Attorney/Defendant). :)
