Ehh, I grew up on Rare, so they've got a special place in my heart. (THey're why I'm so crazy)
And Mario has it's moments, just kinda bland at times, especially some of the newer games. I'm just glad they've cut back on the fifty million sports games. (Galaxy is still awesome, though.)

Mario Kart 64... now that's another game I wasted hours and hours on. And you're right, there definitely was a short-cut or two... or actually several. My brother and I would actually make insane leaps in the mountain track or Rainbow Road or hop over the wall on the dirt track, just to see if we could beat the times in Nintendo Power (haha, hard habit to break?).
Of course, the best part was the variety in items you could use. One of my favorite things to do was to shrink everyone and then hit them with the red koopa shells, all for the sake of hearing their high-pitched screams. Also, hiding a fake item right behind a real item for the next fool kart racer. Surprise!
