Hello!

I have a few questions about the characters. It's been a few months since I played the Phoenix Wright games and although I'd like to play through them again, I can't currently, as my brother has raided my DS and PW:AA + PW:JFA for the next few weeks. =( So yeah, I have a few character related questions which could maybe easily be found in the games, but I'd love it if some fans here in the forum could answer for me. =3

First question, where does Phoenix/Ryuichi actually live? I'm pretty sure it was Los Angeles in the English version and Tokyo in the Japanese version but I can't remember. Does it actually say so anywhere in the games?

Also, what are Phoenix's favourite foods? I'm not sure if this was mentioned either.

That blue suit Phoenix wears... is it expensive, or cheap? We know Phoenix is often struggling to pay his rent bills, so one would assume the suit is cheap, but eh, I don't really know for sure.

One last question, Phoenix Wright has his attorney's badge with the Scales of Justice on it. He wears it proudly (and it's fun to show it to others in-game for hilarious reactions) and Mia wears hers, as does Grossberg. But these are all Defense Attorneys. None of the other lawyers do, do they? Edgeworth's sprites give no hint of it, and neither do Paine's. Is it just a Defense Attorney thing?

I think I may have asked this one before, but... Phoenix's eyes, are they blue, or brown?

Ah well, that's all I can think of for now. =D
Thanks!

Well, Phoenix practices law in LA, so its fair enough to assume that he lives there too.

I dont think a favorite food of his is ever mentioned, but he does talk about burgers with maya alot. (bow-chika-bow-wow! ...ahem)

I always thought it was a medium quality one, and at first I thought it was hella heavily padded, I was like "no way is a lawyer that buff" but hes to cool not to be now so Ive kinda accepted it. Especially after :hobohodo: .

And yeah, only defense attoreys were those badges. He refers to it several times as a defense attorneys badge, like when you are examining it with ema, I think.

And I belive that his eyes have changed colors several times. On the cover of some magazine they were one color at one time (brown?), but they are blue in-game I think.

(Btw Kat, evertime I see your avatar I fall in love! Its super cool!)

Kurain is a city up in the mountains.

It's not long away from LA. Half an hour by train, if I remember correctly.

The games never say, but producer Matsukawa said that PW:AA takes place in Los Angeles. Dunno about the Japanese version, but I'd assume Tokyo.

According to the GS:DS guidebook that came out when the series came to the DS, there is a badge for Prosecutors and the Judge. But none of them wear them, not even Kyouya who was made *after* they decided this. I don't really think they count as being canon.

Guest and promotional art doesn't really count, but the series has had two main character designers: Suekane, who drew Phoenix's eyes as brown, and Nuri, who drew them blue for the cover of the first DS remake. Though in GS4 they look brown in the sprites and blue-gray in the art, so... Pick whichever you like, I guess XD;;

...no.

The original takes place in Japan, where I asume these kind of towns are existant. But near LA? Hardly.

I'm pretty sure Phoenix's suit is cheap. When you examine Edgeworth's suit jacket in case 1-5 , Ema comments about how it must have cost $4,000 or something like that. Then you says something to the effect of "Not like your cheap suit!"

This is fairly random, but as for Phoenix's food preferences, he's not that into burgers--he's a grilled chicken sandwich man, himself *slap'd for lame paraphrasing*

@LZ: There's a script up somewhere on CR for the game, read through a bit of 1-1 and you should get a general idea of how Larry acts.

As is mentioned, Phoenix practices Law in LA in the English version, France in the French version and Japan in the Japanese version.

In the original Japanese games, Phoenix is fond of Miso Ramen, noodles in broth flavoured with fermented soy bean paste. However, it's never been clarified in the English versions.

Spoiler: Proof (GS4 related)
In GS4 case 2, we find out that the regular place is a cart run by a man named Mugitsura Yatabuki, who specialises in Miso ramen.

Also, Kurain is 2 hours by train, which is why Phoenix is so shocked when Pearl says she ran the whole way between there and the courthouse.

In case 3 of the first game, you learn that Phoenix doesn't have a driver's license, so it's safe to say that he's within walking distance of the office.

I'm pretty sure that Phoenix's suit is cheap, after estimating the shirt that Edgeworth wore when he was younger (the one he has framed) at £5,000, he cuts Ema short while she estimates the cost of his suit.

As for Phoenix's eyes, look at these:

The first one shows them as brown, in the second they appear to be dark blue.

Nope, it's reiterated once again in the GS3 fanbook that prosecutors do indeed have a badge. It was instated in 1950 and is refered to as the "秋霜烈日バッジ". (Further research indicates that this holds true for real life Japanese prosecutors, but I guess Capcom doesn't feel beholden to actually have their characters wear them) Interestingly, it states that judges also have a badge...

There's an entire section on the law system in GS in the fanbook, but I haven't had a chance to do more than glance at it. Hopefully the info therein is more helpful than the little relationship arrows they gave Chinami stating that she and Nonda were ex-lovers in the 3-1 write up. (REALLY? Wow, good thing you told me that, Capcom. I could have never gleaned it from playing the game itself)

Hahaha, now I'm actually really interested in this. I know we see it in Gant's office, but there's a better picture. (I assume it's the same as in real life)

It looks cool. I wonder why they don't wear it...

I always wondered about Maya and Pearl, where did they live when they were outside Kurain? I'm just going to assume they lived wit Phoenix since I don't think they'd be able to support themselves on their own.

Too hard to sprite convincingly, given how small it is...? It's a neat design but kind of impractical.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. Plus, it's important for the defense attorneys to stand out. A prosecutor's badge, sprite-wise, would be the same size and place, probably causing some confusion. (Also, Kaminogi doesn't wear a defense badge either, so it's probably an issue of design too.)

Well, Maya might be living with Phoenix now, but before case 1-2 she had an apartment or something. She says to Mia on the phone "I'm finally getting used to having my own place". Given all the time she spends with Phoenix and how much she follows hangs out with him, she might live with him. Or sleep in the office, who knows? As for Pearl, she might still live in Fey Manor. Someone else in the village probably looks after her. After all, she does take the train back to Kurain after she visits Phoenix.
