I don't think I can write too much after this news.

In a few words: "Avatar: The Last Airbender", the TV animated series, is getting a spin-off sequel, titled "The Legend of Korra". See details inside.

Spoiler: HUGE Concept Art

Sorry, I have to stop writing. My mind has been absolutely blown.

We have to wait untril 2011!? Ugh the horror! But oh well, as long as it's good, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

Well, well, so we finally get a return ticket to the real Avatar World.^^

From the short article I can't say much about it but the picture looks like they keep on the original style. I think the idea with the steam-punk world is promising and I remember that this was the original world concept for Avatar the Last Airbender. Since it takes place 70 years after Aang's Story we may seen some familiar faces (well I hope so).
Anyway, I really curious about it and I'm hoping that this turns out well, because Avatar the Last Airbender was really an amazing show and put the ladder pretty high for an second series.
So I think we should wait for the first trailers which I don't expect to be out so soon.
But still I'm so happy that Avatar is coming back on screen :edgy:

HELL YEAH! (Needs Lang smiley desperately) Way to make a comeback after having a name stolen by AVATAR and the bastardization of a movie from M Night Shamalan.

Just hoping the series keeps its somewhat lighthearted tone and bits of humour; seeing Aang's descendant is sure to be cool.

I've heard that it's gonna be a bit darker than Avatar, but I'm totally looking forward to it! But, what I'm wondering is: who's gonna be the big bad guy this time?

http://www.ugo.com/tv/comic-con-2010-le ... -interview

All new info straight from the creators themselves.

* As mentioned , the cabbage merchant will not appear, but "his legacy will be present in some form."
* As an evolution of the first series, The Legend of Korra will have more sophistication to it, but still keep the humor, fun hybrid animals, and action.
* It won't cover more mature subject material necessarily, just different mature subjects. "It won't be another war, but a different sort of conflict."
* On whether or not we'd see a love interest for Korra: "We love that stuff. We're total cornballs, we love cheesy teen romance. Rest assured, there's plenty or romance happening in the story, but it's the same balance of ingredients that we like."
* Katara IS in fact the mother of Aang's offspring, who will be central to the show. "We didn't mean for it to be a big super-secret, that they end up together."
* On the persecution of Airbenders being compared to the X-Men registration act: "We'll see something like that, but in sort of a different structure."
* Will it be a very different world from where we left off? "Yes and no, the world has definitely changed, and evolved, and advanced, but we're very conscious of keeping the same feeling. Not totally different, but it's definitely generations later."
* "There will definitely only be one Avatar at a time, and it is Korra."
* So will Aang have any kind of presence? "Yes...in his way."
* DiMartino and Konietzko will continue to work with Joaquim Dos Santos and Ryuki Hung, working to improve the design and animation.
* The Legend of Korra will in fact be a mini-series, with Michael and Bryan directly writing each episode.
* "As a mini-series, it's going to be really tight. While we really love the filler episodes, those are some of our favorites, this thing is just lean and mean. It's a really cool driving story."

I'm kind of disappointed it's a mini-series, but I'm sure it'll be great. Who knows, they may expand the saga later on.

Aw, a mini-series. Oh well, as Perc said, it could be expanded later on, especially if it does really well. (Or maybe the creators will feel that Avatar is finished with The Legend of Korra and want to work on something else? xD)

It's a shame it's only going to be a miniseries, because I'm sure a lot of people are going to request for this to be longer.

Argh, what is this? Why?
I loved the series, don't get me wrong, it was perfect.
And that's the point, It was perfect, so I'd rather have they leave the franchise alone.
After seeing M.Nigh.Shamaladingdong's movie, I just :/

After all these years of not giving into fan pressure, they finally caved.
This series will have too much to live up too, The expectations will too much for it to bear. I have no doubt it'll be enjoyable, but people will always keep comparing it to the original and much whining will occur.
Then again, I'm whining at this prospect.

Carry on.

I love how whenever they're asked about the movie they give a generic answer like "we're just really focused on this project right now". In other words: "we just don't wanna talk about how much it sucked."

I am really excited about this! Of course I have very high expectations for it, but hopefully it will turn out alright. I'm actually glad it's a miniseries...say what you will, but I want the series main focus to remain Aang. If this were to become a full-blown series...Aang and Korra may hold equal ground, and I wouldn't like that.

Of course, In the end it's not about what I like, so we'll just see how it goes. I REALLY want more info!!!!

Pretty much what I thought after getting out of the shock the news put me in. My first rational thought was very similar to your post.
I do have my hopes high for this project (very high, having seen the series), and mostly because it's being produced by the same people who were in charge of the original series (which I can't call The Last Airbender without causing confusion regarding Shyamalan's film). Same creators, who will be writing the entire mini-series (remember, they wrote the first two episodes of Book 1, The Blue Spirit, Sozin's Comet Parts 3 and 4, and a couple more). Even the animators and composer from the original series are returning, meaning Korra can't stride too far from the series. After all, all these people managed to pull episode of perfection after the next one, so I'm not really worrying.

I know it has high chances of being not bad, but mediocre in comparison to the first series, but I'm willing to bet that it'll be, at least, great. I'm pretty sure they do have an interesting story to tell in Korra, and since they don't have that much to develop on, they're making it a mini-series. Maybe if they can think of something good enough to do a second season, they can go on. But right now, I'm okay with a mini-series, maybe as a test.

I saw steampunk mentioned and I was lost in childlike wonder. I might be able to form a coherent response to this later.

If it has the original animators and writers, I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm more worried about the thing being a miniseries

Also, who's going to teach him air bending?

Fixed.

And to quote wikipedia: " [...] In the show, Korra will have to learn Airbending from master Tenzin, son of Avatar Aang and Katara [...] "

Oh, I'm kinda looking forward to it. The steampunk idea sounds really cool~
