I been hearing a lot about Christopher Nolan's new film coming out next week, so I thought I bring it up and ask about your all's opinions on it. as much as I heard many are saying it's a matrix/paprika rip-off. So, ask away.

Christopher Nolan doesn't rip off sh*t. Both of those movies are NOTHING compared to the epicness of Inception.

In other words, I am dying of anticipation for this film. I am afraid I am hyping it up too much in my mind, but I did that to every other Christopher Nolan Film and was still blown away.

ALL HAIL LORD CHRISTOPHER NOLAN.

Well I didn't say Nolan was ripping anybody off. It was just what I heard from the grapevine.

Same here. I want this movie so bad. My siblings and I haven't stopped talking about it since we first saw the trailer. And like you said, I've always hyped myself up over Christopher Nolan's films and have yet to be disappointed. If anything, my expectations are usually met and exceeded. Not only that, but over the years I've dropped my opinion of Leonardo DiCaprio as Titanic's "pretty boy" and found that he's a spectacular leading man. I think I'm really going to enjoy his performance. Chris Nolan is an incredible director, so I don't think I'll be disappointed in the slightest.

I'm putting my earplugs and blindfold on with regard to the hype. Nolan did direct The Dark Knight, one of the best movies ever, so I don't want to get my hopes up about Inception yet. But lookie here: a 96% from Rotten Tomatoes already.

Saw it. Loved it. Movie of the summer (if not year) right behind Toy Story 3.

It's impossible to have an intelligent discussion on this movie without having around others who have already seen it, so if you haven't watched it DO. IT. NOW!

It will blow your mind provided you possess an attention span greater than that of a rat.

AND THEN SEE IT AGAIN.

Seriously. I saw it yesterday with my brother and his friend... mind blown. I love that movie. And Joseph Gordon-Levitt was fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. Mm-MMM! Not to mention his character Arthur was awesome, especially
Spoiler: HELL YES
the whole bit on Level 2. Finding a way to create a kick at zero Gs while having sick, anti-grav hallway fights is pretty damn awesome.
I can honestly say I'll need to see this one a few more times for sheer epicness. The acting was brilliant, the story was thought-provoking, the effects were eye-gasmic and the soundtrack was to die for. I positively adored the entire cast. I really like the fact that Ellen Page wasn't a "damsel in distress" sort of character; she was actually totally kick-ass. And the kiss between her and Joseph Gordon-Levitt was adorable.

One of the things, though. The ending. What's your take on it, Mr. Bear Jew? :3

I now want to see this film even more.

Really want to see it, but opens next Thursday (29th, not 22th) here D:
REALLY hyped up for this one. Trailers look epic.

Still, pretty sure it won't beat Toy Story 3. After all, it's got 99% from Rotten Tomatoes' regular critics (224 Fresh, 3 Rotten) and 100% from Top Critics (34 Fresh, 0 Rotten).

So, according to what I've seen so far (Toy Story 3) and what I've read about Inception, the current Best Picture nominees for the 83rd Oscars are those two films. That is, Toy Story 3 and Inception.
And potential future ones are "Eat, Pray, Love" (come on, it's produced by Brad Pitt... pretty sure it'll be praised universally), and maybe Wall Street 2 (looks pretty solid), The Social Network (if it performs as good as it's being advertised), and True Grit (if it ends up being as good as the '69 film, or better, considering it has the Coen brothers). Earlier, I was actually thinking how funny it would be if "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" were good enough to deserve a nomination, but then I just laughed and completely forgot about it.
But that's off-topic.

I'm considering pirating it before the 29th, then go see it when it comes out. Just because I need to see it fast, and because I'll most probably want to pay for such an epic film.

Don't pirate this film. It will destroy the emotion. Part of the experience for me was hearing the audience's reaction to everything. Gasps were everywhere and I heard countless "ooo!"s. The ending though (NO SPOILERS) everyone was twisted up. I even heard a few people crying. This is one film that would loose all impact if pirated. Trust me, you HAVE to see this in theaters. I think it is the best film in years.

agred. My friends thought it was kinda complicated to follow... though I can't see why. It was fun, and easy to get into 9/10. easily.

and it's more matrix/JAMES BOND, if anything

Bullshit, lol

Honestly, it's complicated. He saw the faces of his children, which he could never do in the dream, implying that he made it back into the real world. But then you have the totem which wobbled but never completely tipped over. I'm torn over this issue, so maybe a repeat view is in order to better construct my thoughts.

I was mind-fucked repeatedly, and multiple times simultaneously throughout the duration of this film.

Ok, it's a slight Matrix rip off, but at least it then makes it 3 times more complicated and epic than the Matrix. It's one of the few movies that manages to balance EVERY aspect perfectly.
It's totally action packed, the chases were as good as any bond film, the fight scenes too. - Good.
Despite the total, relentless action, the background personal story is original, relevant and poignant enough to hold the film together - Good.
It's even managed a fair bit of humour. Ariadne kissing Arthur was hilarious.
The special effects weren't overdone, but when they were used they were totally mind blowing.
Spoiler: You'll want to see this before reading this
FOLDING PARIS ANYONE? ZOMG.

The tension was perfect, the story was brilliant, the concept was GENIUS. This is one of the best films I've seen. Better than the Dark Knight? I dunno, but it's on a par.
Also, Ellen Page. :D

OMNOMNOM Awesome movie. 9.5/10

Docked 0.5 because of the ludicrously annoying ending. I WANT TO FUCKING KNOW
Spoiler: END of the FILM

I mean he would've gone through all that shit and ended up being trapped in the dream world. My response to the ending - It leaves it up to the viewer! Cool! Christopher Nolan really knows how to make us think. The audience's reaction - FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUU-

Ahaha, funny cos the audience reaction at my viewing in the UK (bear in mind, we're not ones for reacting in films at all)

Spoiler: End spoiler
Was murmuring as it spun, then "YEAAA" when it wobbled, then "WHAT FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"

The only film I've been to with a reaction before was Borat when the whole cinema was in stitches, and clapped at the end. Retrospectively, that was a shit film.

INCEPTION FTW!

I LOVED this movie. It was on of the best movies I've seen for a while. My favorite part was defiantly either when Joseph Gorden Levitt chokes a bitch in Zero-Gravity

or
Spoiler: Do not read if you want to see the movie
When Cobb finally talks down Mal in Limbo

also
Spoiler: My thoughts on the movie. Beware lest you be spoiled
I think the top did not stop because...he was in a dream the entire time. The events in the "real world" were actually a dream. I think the segment in Mombosa seems dream-like. The guys shooting at Cobb seemed a lot similar to the guys shooting at Cobb in Fischer's dream. Also, Cobb getting caught between those two buildings seems dream-like. When has anyone seen an alleyway that narrow? Than Saito just shows up out of nowhere to rescue him. It just was all very hard for me to swallow until I thought that the entire sequence was all just a dream.

That's just one of the many theories I have about this movie but I need to see it again just to make things clearer. Oh, and anybody who has not seen it, GO SEE IT!

SPOILER AHEAD!

Spoiler: Your Analysis
The whole "It was a dream the whole time." Doesn't cut it for me. That is the most simple cut and dry ending ever. I think that if the top keeps spinning, than that means he is still stuck in the dream world and creating the world that he wants from memory. And it opens up many more possibilities for the viewer to decide.

Spoiler:
This has nothing to do with the "WAS HE STUCK IN LIMBO OR NOT" debate, but it's still ending related.

The more I read into it, the more Cobb's exchange with Mal at the end reminds me of a human confronting the Devil and rejecting all temptations being offered to him. Does anyone else have similar thoughts?

Just saw it.
Spoiler:
Inception has got one of the most intelligent and creative plots ever written for cinema.
All in all, the film very much reminds one of Borges' (who happens to be my favourite writer) short stories - stimulating emotions through the exploration of concepts to their logical conclusion, all while using the craft of more traditional story tellers (here, Nolan's elegant, understated film making skills and mastery of the codes of thrillers, action movies, and mysteries) to perfection. There's even the reference to labyrinths and mirrors in case someone missed the homage ;)

Yeah, that's a pretty interesting ending and everything was so suspenseful and interesting and just really cool. It was a little hard to follow in the beginning but I got into it. I'm seeing it again tomorrow with a friend... I'm sure it will be a different experience after already seeing it once.

Lawl, I hear you man. Here's what I felt about it:

Spoiler: ZE END
So, really, I'm kind of torn on the ending. On the one hand, I want to believe it wasn't a dream based on the way that the totem wobbled. But on the other hand, I have this thing about his kids... I'd have to watch again, but weren't they wearing the exact same clothes as they were in his memory of the last time he saw them? Also, how long has he been gone? Because his kids are the same age in appearance as when he left. I mean, he might not have been gone for a LONG time, but usually kids that age grow pretty quick. Just saying. As far as seeing his kids faces, I feel like if it were a dream, it would be a representation of his "defeat" of Mal's Shadow. Like he could finally see them because he wasn't weighed down by that guilt.

Arthur/Ariadne is adorbs, though. That kiss cracked me up.

I saw it, good movie. Wish they could've explored some of the aspects of the dreams more
Spoiler:
like with the architecture and reality bending

but it was very entertaining, nonetheless. My only critiques were that
Spoiler:
Cobb and Fischer were the only characters that were explored and everyone else, especially Ariadne, seemed carelessly thrown in.

Edit: Awesome soundtrack as well.

You've just absolutely sold my soul to Christopher Nolan. Borges is also one of my favourite writers, I've always loved his style.

My father tried getting a pirated copy (can't really afford taking me and my brother to the cinema), but the sound was terrible, so I had to depend on subtitles. Subtitles were probably worse than the sound, they translated stuff like "I need a new architect" into "I need something else", and sometimes even worse (there was a random "It's in the cake" line in the subtitles...). So I had to, let's call it ragequit after less than half an hour.
Still waiting for a chance to see it in cinemas...

I saw it a few days ago. I really enjoyed it.
I knew nothing of the film before I saw it in theaters (I was hanging out with my friends and we had a vote about what to see) so I didn't know what to expect.

Regarding the ending:
Spoiler:
I'm pretty sure the top, or whatever it was, stopped spinning. If you compare the way it was spinning at the end of the movie to when it was spinning inside the dream world, you'd notice the top was not spinning perfectly. In the dream world it would spin perfectly. It didn't wobble once while it span. In the ending the top would wobble a bit and it cut to the end credits before it fell. It's a classic trick to do when making movies.

Saw it one time in theatres, and I enjoyed it so much that I took my car and watched it at a drive-in a few days later. It's really a movie you have to see multiple times to notice even close to every hidden trinket was in the movie.

One easily noticeable thing that tons of people missed:
Spoiler:
Whenever Cobb was in a dream, he'd have his wedding ring on his finger. Whenever he was awake, it was missing. In response to the final scene, he was not wearing it then.

And lol moment, in Fischer's mind, during the snow scene; I was reminded of Fallout 3's Operation: Anchorage, and multiple parts of COD: MW 2. XD

Well, I thought a bit about it, and there's a decent reason why.

It is revealed to Ariadne that Cobb's totem is the spinning top, and Arthur's totem is the loaded die. They know how their totems work. All Ariadne knew was that she needed a totem, so she made one before so rudely entering Cobb's dreams. She never got the chance to learn how her totem worked; how does she test the weight, and how it reacts? She had no idea.

Of course, while this explanation might make sense, if it does, why did they even bother to have her make one? I would've loved to have seen Ariadne, Saito, and hell, even Arthur (who explained his damn totem to her), use their totems; I loved the spinning top gimmick, they could've come up with something creative for each.

- The loaded die always lands on a certain number.
- The copper bishop would balance perfectly upside down in the dream.

And et cetera. Oh, and by the way, some hilarious memes from the movie have already emerged:

Saw yesterday. Best movie of 2010 so far. I would go again just to see the level 2 fights all over again

Seconding this comment~.

As for the ending, without rehashing anything....
Spoiler:
As far as I"m concerned, Cobb made it back to the real world. I was prepared for a 'it's all a dream' or 'Mal was right all along' twist before the end but after everything, I just don't like that ending. Plus, the top was wobbling instead of perfect like when it was in the dream world, that's all the confirmation I need personally.

I knew it was going to be good, but I didn't know it was going to be that bloody good. In the words of Ben Croshaw (although he said this on the subject on Portal but NEVER MIND THAT);
"Absolutely sublime from start to finish and I will jam forks into my eyes if I ever use those words to describe anything else ever again."
Best film of Christopher Nolan's career and best action movie I have seen in a looong time... no, scratch that, best action movie I've ever seen. That's no light praise, I've seen literally hundreds of action movies. Puts shit like Iron Man 2, Transformers and the A-Team to immeasurable shame.
Haven't seen this movie? GO FUCKING SEE THIS MOVIE.

Saw it today; much better than expected, actually. Of course it was a mindscrew, as well as rather plotholed up, but it was Psychonauts with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and a spinning top. Which makes it awesome =D

The fight sequences were original - Gordon-Levitt's zero-gravity fights, as well as that ski chase.

Also, this needs to be mentioned.

I finally got to watch Inception this weekend, and it was as epic as I hoped. Loved it loved it. Will totally buy it once it's out.

While I was watching it, I was glad that they didn't bother to sit the audience down and talk us through every aspect of the dream business (how it works, how long it's been around, how many people can do it). It was fun that they just went with it as if it were normal, and let us fill in the holes (like the dreaming populating the dreamscape!? lol THE MOVIE ITSELF IS A DREAM!!!). But the one thing I wish they would have explained a little better is the totems.

Arthur explained to Ariadne that the feel of your totem would tip you off to the fact that you were in someone else's dream because no one can recreate your totem perfectly. That would imply that it's the dreamer that recreates everyone's totems during the dream. But does that mean the totem is ineffective if you're in your own dream? If it's your dream, you created the totem, therefore you ought to know its feeling.

Plus Cobb's totem (the only one that's ever used) doesn't work by feel, it works by the visual/physical spin aspect, which would be very easy for a dreamer to recreate (assuming they knew it was his totem and that the spin was the key).

Or is it that each person recreates their own totem automatically when they enter a dream, and whether or not the totem functions depends on their subconscious knowledge of the fact that they're in a dream? In which case, Cobb's subconscious is so effed up anyway, wouldn't it effect the totem towards whatever outcome he wanted from it?

I wish we could have seen the other totems in action as a basis for comparison.

That would then technically mean that someone could technically trap you inside your own dream, although it would have to be a very complex dream for that to work Croik. As for the spinning effect of Cobb's totem, I suppose that anyone who had seen it spin could recreate it, but maybe Cobb spins it the same way every time and if it's the wrong amount of time for it to be spinning, he would know that it was a dream. That's the only explanation I could come up with.

What you're describing is...

Spoiler:
...pretty much exactly how the movie ends! If we assume that Cobb really is still in limbo, alone, the totem must be his own creation/projection/whatever, or else is governed by his subconscious. So if it keeps spinning that means he's still dreaming, but if it stops spinning that could just mean his will MADE it stop spinning...! So the top stopping isn't a surefire indication that he's in reality.

Which is why I'm glad for the wedding ring indication, because I don't want to think that he was still stuck at the end, or worse, that the entire movie was all dream sequence.
