This was the competition entry for What Crime Is It?, submitted by E.D.Revolution and myself, using the AAO Trial Editor. Our crime is smuggling, and it sorta ties with Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth (yes, it's the same smuggling ring). However, the main character is not Miles Edgeworth (more on that later).

Now, a brief synopsis: Your client is a man who was actually once involved with the smuggling ring! *LE GASP* He's charged with smuggling fake money out of Zheng Fa and a statue out of Borginia.

Now, who the flip are you, anyways? You're Mia Fey (quite appropriate for two Mia Fey writers :P ). Your co-council is Ema Skye, and your rival.... Is Shi-Long Lang. Yes, the Interpol Agent takes the place of prosecutor.

There will be ten parts to this case, out of the pure fact this is based after Turnabout Dream.

Reviews
Keep in mind, these reviews can have spoilers in them. It's best to play the case before reading them.

Spoiler: Gumpei
Before I get into the good bits, I would like to get my two major complaints out of the way: One, there are several words and phrases that are repeated way too much, often in the same frames. (In particular, I noticed attest, then, Well..., Hmm..., Anyways, huh, a lot, at all, speaking of which, better, here, and alright) It's not always a bad thing, but if it's to the point where it's that noticeable it needs to be modified a bit. Second thing is the text speed. The text speed is incredibly fluctuating in the investigation. It goes from slow to fast quickly, and it makes the flow of the trial in certain areas awkward. The only other real complaints I would have are that the females had male voices and the males had female voices a few times, some frames are missing names, a few lines run-on for too unnecessarily long, some of the references felt forced, and several of the characters seem strangely snappy at times.

Those things out of the way, I really enjoyed this trial. The new characters were interesting, the old characters were mostly in-character, I can practically smell the deep plot, and above all it kept me entertained and wanting to play more. And seeing how closely I had to examine damn near every single individual frame, that's quite an accomplishment. It's also long.

However, there's one thing in particular that the both of you deserve high marks for, and that's just how astoundingly AA-like this case feels. Honestly, I'd go as far as to say that this is likely the closest a fan-made investigation has ever come to feeling like a genuine investigation from an AA game. While the Attorney's Badge didn't garner a response from everyone like it should have, at most times I would try presenting multiple things to people to see what they would say about it. Of course, I would think that for most things they wouldn't say much, but I was AMAZED to see that several characters actually had a lot to say about different pieces of evidence. On top of this, you can examine different areas. There was never a time where I went "WTF? Why can't I examine that?" because I was able to examine everything that I thought I should be able to. That's awesome to me.

Despite my numerous amount of complaints, the good easily outweighs the bad in the first part of Turnabout Crackdown. Enticing. Entertaining. There are so many investigations out there that find themselves so obsessed with innovation that they forget what the essence of an investigation is about, and that's investigating. This is the prime example of a great formulaic investigation.

Everyone has seen what you can do, ED, but Holhol--you're a fantastic trial authoress in the making. You can only get better from here. I can't wait for the next part.

Holhol! Nice you posted your debut trial out!

You should change the title topic so everyone knows you have Part 1 out already.

Also folks, this is a pretty long investigation (but pretty much mostly straightforward) part, so you'll definitely be getting your playtime's worth.

Psst Hoh, where my credits for betatesting? D=
On another note, you need to credit Ceres for the custom graphics such as background, since "graphics" implies that I did all of that. ED said these bgs were from Ceres, so I'm sure Ceres would be happy if you credited him/her :p
If you want to *uber* credit me, make it specific so people know I did the special graphic, promo art, and technically the signature :yogi:. This might clear up any misunderstanding that might happen in the future.

If E.D. would've told me ahead of time about Ceres making the background....

I'll update it accordingly.

Ceres is a guy, why does no one know his gender? XD
His AAO username is Mr. Incognito.

Anyways, looking forward to playing, will probably play tomorrow or the day after.

Hey hey hey! come and play another Mia Fey case, this time an investigation.

I promise you that this investigation will not disappoint anybody. It is as good as it comes.

Also, as trial authors, we need feedback on the investigation. The trial will come soon enough.

Uh, NO. You shouldn't hijack another persons thread to advertise your own fan-game.

Not that I'm trying to be a mod here, but I think it's kinda rude to do that in someone else's thread, so cut it out!

Nuh uh!

We're both friends. And we BOTH worked on it. So really, what right do you have to tell me that? :P

And I was referring to THIS Mia Fey case when I said investigation.

Oh, looks like there has been a misunderstanding here...I can see why ^^, I hope I can clear it up:

ED is the co-author of the Turnabout Crackdown (obviously the thread case you just posted in here).

He was more trying to bump this case rather than advertise his own (ASA), as in, when he said another mia fey case, he meant Crackdown's release (because it IS another Mia fey case to be ever released after all xD). When he said investigation, he meant this one (as only the investigation is out after all).

He didn't even mention his own series at all ya know?

Please don't take it the wrong way SilentBobX...ED was just hyping Crackdown, there's nothing wrong with that is there? ^^

Lolwut :udgy:

I can assure you, we BOTH worked on this trial together, as a collaboration. He was promoting THIS, not his series. Take my word for this, plox. He's not hijacking my thread. This is all a big misunderstanding. :P

My assumption was that they were referring to their own Fan-Game when they used the word "another".

Sorry, but I couldn't understand that train wreck of a sentence. :igarashi:

While it's true that I have my own case, I don't really have a reason to promote my own in this thread.

And the reason I said "another" was because IIRC there are two Mia Fey cases released to CR: mine and TCrackdown. I was referring to TCrackdown when I made that post.
