When I first saw the topic line, though, my immediate thought was more along the lines of working for Capcom and being told that a significant character had to die for drama. In that case, I'd probably go with Gumshoe -- possibly taking a bullet for Edgeworth. -- Pteryx

What about Maggey? Taking a bullet for her would be much more dramatic in his situation. That one might be a little too depressing though :/.

Depends in part on the PoV, I guess. I was assuming an AAI game, where we'd get to see what Edgeworth's thinking through all this. Were it a mainline AA game, though, Maggey might well be the better choice of person for Gumshoe to take a bullet for. -- Pteryx

No it doesn't, Cindy was very real.
Like Darth GW7 above me, I do not consider Case 1-1 to be canon.
Nonetheless, even if we are to consider Cindy, there is no proof that Larry had really dated her. He could have been merely creeping around her apartment.
Another viable explanation is that Cindy was the only model that Larry had ever dated. Since her tragic incident, the rest of the 'models' have been delusions caused by Larry's unstable condition.

That is a such a brilliant but tragic idea...
I do ship Maggey/Gumshoe, but I agree that it would be much more meaningful for him to take a bullet for Edgeworth. Their relationship is much deeper-rooted in the game.
Of course, however, I sincerely hope that neither thing ever happens in canon, b-because I would be irreparably heartbroken if Gummy died...
Anyway...
As tempted as I am to simply suggest killing off Oldbag of old age to get it overwith, I'm trying to think of something that would be meaningful without being too depressing...
It could trigger another step for Regina toward maturity, as she must realize that, much like her father, he is never coming back.
It would also incidentally (and I do mean it a side note -- please know that I'm not really a "Die For Our Ship" kind of shipper!) narrow down
's many love interests... as, eventually, I think she should end up with

if I could. From a narrative perspective, though, I think the best possible death to showcase in GK5 would be
. ...Yeah, I'm going to hell for that one. But let me explain why first.
...Pearls is the single most universally liked character in the series; given her youth, her boundless optimism and her compassion, if she were murdered in a future game, we'd have legitimate reason to absolutely despise her murderer, and that case in GK5 would easily become the best case in the series due to its depressingly tragic nature and the sheer lengths Phoenix and Apollo would go to catch the killer.
Furthermore, unlike (for example) Trucy, Pearls has strong connections to a lot of characters who did not appear in Apollo Justice, giving them reason to reappear in this case. Maya, of course, would be reunited with Nick at least. (And whether you're a P/M shipper or not, that'd be one hell of a powerful scene.) Edgeworth and Gumshoe would have every reason to invest themselves to catching the murderer. In Trials and Tribulations, Pearls was the one character who was able to get under Franziska's skin, precisely because she was so likable, honest and inoffensive that her harsh words cut deep; Franny would inevitably reappear too. Pearls wouldn't be far off Trucy's age, so the two might have been friends.
I'm pretty sure we've seen Pearls interact with characters like Larry, Iris, Will, and Adrian, too. No one had reason to dislike her. The entire case would be like the mobilization of a vast army of past Ace Attorney characters, all hellbent on vengeance.
Phoenix would go through the process of being reinstated as an attorney just to defend someone falsely accused of murder. (It'd actually be pretty awesome if there were two possible killers, and Team One -- Phoenix, Franziska and Klavier and Team Two -- Edgeworth and Apollo and Maya disagreed as to who was responsible and who was innocent, dividing the respective defense attorneys and prosecutors into two separate teams handling two separate court cases if both suspects were simultaneously prosecuted. Imagine how the emotional sparks would fly if two teams passionately and angrily disagreed as to who murdered Pearls, and everyone was too psychologically traumatized to rationally discuss the facts.)
And because Pearls was such an adorable sweetheart, the gamer wouldn't dare put down the DS until the murderer was brought to justice.

And what about the scene where Nick/Apollo pledges to defend someone whom it seems did it? A bit like Pearls' reaction to him defending Ron Delite, only x1000000.
