So the third game in the Rhythm Heaven series is now out in NA (not Europe, though *sadface.jpg*). And it's actually pretty good.

Image

The lyrical songs are well done and not souless like in the previous version, and it's a very good effort by Nintendo in what may one of the last Wii games ever.

Remix 3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD3opf5qjkQ&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

Remix 9 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaNzUDaWSrI&feature=related

Karate Man - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT_q6-8uTpY&feature=related

Built to scale - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKRLrPm78Rk&feature=related

The game is probably the best in the series for me, simply due to how much it has to offer. The difficulty is shown to be great at times, but not frustrating (Maoi doo wop 2/Rhythm Rally 2, anyone? :igarashi: ), and the bonuses are actually good. Instead of just a mixture of simple little toys, this time they've remade some levels from the first Rhythm Heaven game (Rhythm Tengoku), which was never released outside of Japan. The game never gets repetitive, even with its simplicity, and there is no end to its zany fun. Rhythm Heaven truly is a one of a kind franchise.

All I can say is I hope Nintendo carries on with this series. It deserves all the praise it gets and is severely underrated.

*Sits and waits for European release date*

Anybody else love Rhythm Heaven as much as me? :phoenix:

The game comes out tomorrow in NA.
I can't stand the wait much longer!
I DON'T CARE ABOUT OTHER GAMES RIGHT NOW, THIS IS ALL THAT IS ON MY MIND.
I'm still waiting to get it to watch the dubbed version, though.

Man the DS's "Built to Scale" song trumps that one if you ask me but the Karate Man song looks better. I especially like the look of the combo gameplay.

Question:
Do any of the controls have to do with motion controls? In a game that requires such precision as Rhythm Heaven I can see them being a problem what with reaction times and body movement speeds etc.

Nope. The game uses the A and B buttons.

Sometimes in combination, too. Like the combo punches in Karate Man. You hold A + B when the first plant pot comes and let go when the barrel comes. Or like when in Built to scale, you press A when the A...thing says, and when you have to shoot the widget into the things that holds it together, you press A + B.

But the actual songs that required a human performance are much better. God, I hated "Thrilling! Is this love?" :edgeworth:

Pierre: Hmm I don't remember that one....
*to youtube*
Pierre: OH GOD IT'S AWFUL!

So yeah I must have repressed those god awful tunes. That one and Lockstep were probably some of the most hated ones of mine (for different reasons). "Thrilling! Is this love" just sounds so forced and awful at times....I suppose.

In fact I think I hate the phrase "I suppose" it just doesn't fit at the end of sentences right.

Oh hell yes, I LOVE Rhythm Heaven. I am extremely pumped for this game. So pumped that I went back to the DS game and got all perfect on a new file! :edgy:

Nope.avi

It's not impossible *flaunts all 50 perfects* :will:

But it's a serious challenge. God damn that Rhythm Rally 2/Maoi Doo Wop 2. Curse them both to hell, I say! *And I think I've shortened my life by about 20 years after hearing that f**king "failing a perfect" record scratch noise...* :payne:

Yep, all 50 of em. This is my second time doing it, too. :jake:
In reality, I don't find Lockstep hard at all. Rhythm Rally 2 is very annoying to perfect but the one that gave me the most trouble was Moai Doo-wop 2. Damn you, Moais! :zenitora:

Nope, it is possible! The proof is even in the (neurotoxin-free) cake!

I'm very tempted to get this game, but no word on European release so far (we only know it'll be this year).
Are the songs any different in the 'occidental' version of the game? (like, Japanese 'voices' or English?)

From what I can tell, everything's been changed. Even the voice of the cat in Air Rally, for some reason. Maybe the kind-of Engrish he spoke was a bit too odd? :yuusaku:

But I love how they've changed the words to Love Rap. Mainly making "Honto!" in the Japanese version "Fo' sho!" in the Localisation :godot:

And the Ringside (Wrestler) stage is pretty good. "RUBADUBADUB is that true?" "WOW! You go, big guy!" "Pose for the fans!"

And I've got remix 3 and 9 up on the first post. Those songs kick some serious ass in English. Props for Nintendo putting effort into the songs, because I love the remixes in the Rhythm Heaven series.

So I got the game today and I got all the way to Remix 3. This is what I think so far:

Rhythm Heaven DS? Yeah, it was awesome. Rhythm Heaven Fever? F'ING GENIUUUUUUUUUUUUUS!

Seriously, this game is just FUN. My favorite mini-games so far are See-Saw and Air Rally. I'll post more when I get deeper into the game! :edgy:

So I picked up the game, went home, and was ready to put it into the system, when I realized. I left the wii at my dad's.

God just doesn't want me to play this game, does he? Oh well, maybe tomorrow. :sadshoe:

At least you get to play this game very soon. There's not even a specific release date for Europe. Makes me rage, because it's not like I need the game translating into a different language. I live in England, dang it. I'd have imported, it if weren't for the fact that the Wii is region locked and I really don't want to hack my console :maggy:

Like I said, makes me rage.

Well, I guess you're right. But it does make me pissed that I have the game disc next to me, yet I can't use it, and I thought I would be able to play it today. I got my hopes up, and they were thrown down.

So I got my Wii, played it until Remix 4. This is the best Wii game. Ever. The Air Rally Dog's English voice annoys the crap outta me, but the rest of the dubbing is great.
Favorite Level: tie between Ringside and Air Rally and Hole In One and Monkey watch and every other game execpt...
Least Favorite: PACKING PESTS AND TAMBORINE. Words cannot describe my hate and frustration at these games.

Ok, so I played a lot more since yesterday and I got all the way to Shrimp Shuffle (the second game before Remix 7).
My favorite ones now are Ringside, See-Saw, Air Rally, Samurai Slice, Flipper Flop, and Flock Step.
My least favorites are Love Rap, and Catch of the day. Seriously, catch of the day gave me so much trouble.

I already made up my mind. This game is BETTER than the DS one. And I really loved the DS Rhythm Heaven.

Wellsir, I think it's fair to say the IGN review of this game is bullshit.

They docked the game's score for a lack of online, "poor multiplayer", a "broken" scoring system, hardly any innovation and not pushing the Wii's graphical capabilities.

Oh, IGN. U so funny :no-no:

S-Seriously?!? Admittedly, I've only played demos of Rhythm Heaven, but I can tell from those that this game is not meant for any type of multiplayer, (I don't really know how the scoring system is), and the gameplay is really unique & the music is quite catchy. My respect for IGN just went down quite a bit... :sadshoe:

Yeah, the broken scoring thing was a load of bull. They call missing one football in the Double Date stage and getting an "OK" rank broken, even though that's standard fare for some levels in this series. Like Quiz/White Apparition in Rhythm Tengoku.

It's so obvious that the reviewer has no idea what they're reviewing.

But IGN mostly deserve no respect anyway. They just get paid off by developers to slap a 9.0 on the latest FPS, and rave about how awesome it is, while criticising other games for the same flaws.

Oh, IGN. U so funny :no-no:

Lack of online?
LACK OF ONLINE?!
*rage*
IGN, not every game needs to have online multiplayer. Not every game needs to be Call Of Duty. Look at Skyrim, everyone loved that game! If it did have online, it would be a fake way of "making the game longer". I haven't even touched the multiplayer yet, and Fever still gets a 10/10 from me.

Also, on the "broken" scoring system:
Let me put it in a language you understand:
If you were playing a single-player FPS, and it had a scoring system, if you miss killing a few regular baddies, no biggie. If you miss killing one of the bigger guys, your score will go down because HE'S WORTH THE MOST POINTS.
*goes back to getting medals*

My rant from a topic about this.

IGN are mostly just a bunch of blowhards that act like they can review stuff, when it's mainly just them getting paid by the developer to slap a 8.5+ on the review and talk out their ass about how they love it.

Case in point - How every single CoD gets a high score, despite not being creative/innovative in the slightest. Yet when other, smaller games/series don't innovate to high heaven, they get their score docked for not being innovative, or "we've seen this before".

And most of this review is just nit-picking. They complained about it not pushing the Wii's graphical capability? I can't facepalm hard enough, here. I just can't. How they can't see that they cutesy graphics was what they were going for is just astounding.

And about how "poor multiplayer" is a "significant flaw". How is it? Once again, I'm gonna go back to Call of Duty. I've seen what the single player campain is like in those games. They're a joke. Very short, and not interesting in the slightest. The only reason anyone buys CoD is for the online. So, it's the same deal. Rhythm Heaven apparently has poor multiplayer, and gets docked because of it. CoD has a short, joke of a campain, and nothing is said or done about it. What the hell.

Finally, the fact that they missed once and got an okay rating is not a big deal. Clearly, they haven't ever played the GBA Rhythm Tengoku (which is hilarious when they complain about the lack of innovation in the series, they even mention the GBA game as if they've played it). Remember White Apparition/Sneaky Spirits? Miss once, okay rank. It's not that surprising, and it's certainly not "broken".

Yeah, I just picked the game up today and got up to remix 4. I have to say everything is so damn catchy, except now I move around like an idiot while playing, unlike the DS version.

As for my least favorite levels: packing pests and tamborine aren't that hard by themselves, but the remixes using them just LOVE throwing me off.

So I finished the game yesterday. And by finished I mean beating Remix 10.

So the game is definitely better than the DS one. I really loved Samurai Slice, Ring Side, Air Rally, Flipper Flop, See-Saw, and Tap Troupe. I really got annoyed by Love Rap, though.

All in all, the game is amazing. I hope Nintendo keeps going with this franchise. :will:

I love this game; been working on beating Remix 10.

Favorites are probably Samurai Slice, Karate Man, Wrestler Interview and See-Saw. Bossa Nova's cool, too but I think it's just 'cause I've always liked that beat/style of music. Packing Pests was also cool. Really hate Rhythm Rap and, to some extent, Shrimp Shuffle. I think I've finally got the hang of them but... yeah still not my favorite.

Reminds me that I should probably pick up my own copy of the DS game. I borrowed my sibs' copy.

Just beat Remix 10 and got enough medals to unlock the Tap Trial GBA stage. These minigames are actually quite easy to get a superb rating on except Love Rap 2 or Remix 10...

I wouldn't imagine getting a perfect on remix 10...

So right now I'm in the process of getting a Perfect in every single game since I already got all the medals. MY GOD IS IT HARD. :spload:
Seriously, I have more than 40 perfects and I'm very close to getting them all. But some of the mini-games are just so picky! I should have seen this coming. It IS Rhythm Heaven after all. :payne:

Be glad it isn't Maoi doo-wop 2, though. That game was just pain. And when you messed up the perfect, not only did you have to hear that horrible "perfect missed" noise, but a bird also shat on your head. Doesn't that just say it all? :redd:

Oh man, don't remind me. That game was the last one I needed to get a perfect on.

So much...suffering. :sadshoe:

Wellsir, I think it's fair to say the IGN review of this game is bullshit.

They docked the game's score for a lack of online, "poor multiplayer", a "broken" scoring system, hardly any innovation and not pushing the Wii's graphical capabilities.

Oh, IGN. U so funny :no-no:

That's why Parish and pals are the only game reviewers I take seriously.

So is this any easier than the DS game? I've been interested in it and I liked the DS one for what I played, but the ping-pong level crushed me over and over until I gave up on it forever.

Feels a lot easier to me. You can't blame the controls unlike the DS game. There are no REALLY hard levels, but mabye I'm just use to these games now.
