Hey guys. I casually buy Nintendo Power Magazine and in this year's April edition, they actually talk a little bit about this movie.
Here's what they had to say:

Quote:
Phoenix On Film

"If you're a Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney fan, then you've probably already heard about the live-action interpretation of the popular Nintendo DS series that recently hit movie theaters across Japan. Those of us on the other side of the Pacific will have a chance to see the film when it comes to North America this summer. Based on the events of the first Ace Attorney game, the movie stars Hiroki Narimaiya as Phoenix Wright, Takumi Saitoh as his rival Miles Edgeworth, and Mirei Kiritani as Phoenix's client/assistant Maya Fey. The subtitled film will be screened exclusively at the Anime, Manga, and Music (AM2) convention held June 15-17 in Anaheim, California." -Chris H.

And then it has a little screenshot of the movie of Phoenix presenting some sort of paper as evidence.
Looks like there won't be any dubs, just subtitles. Which is what we like to see. :edgy:
As for showings, they're saying that it'll be screened exclusively at a convention in California. Looks like it won't be showing anywhere else. :larry:
I guess all we can do is hope and pray that is makes it to DVD/Blu-ray in America.

Nice coverage but yeah I never really expected dubbing anywhere for it though I'm hoping they'll release a DVD overseas at least.

Didn't Miike say there would be an official dub of the movie? Or was that just me dreaming? :gumshoe: I'm sure it was said a dub would be made, as well as sub.

Isn't it supposed to also show at a convention in Hawaii? ...Before the one in California? :yuusaku:

We were told we'd get a dub, but maybe they changed their plans. Still, maybe they thought it'd be a bit too much of a hassle to show two versions of the same movie at a convention, or thought that people at the convention wouldn't really want the dub, or maybe the dub just isn't finished yet.

If they have the subs finished, I imagine it wouldn't take that much extra money to make the DVDs... We just gotta sit tight and hope, I guess.

I got invited to go to AM2, but I'm already booked for another con at the time. :larry:

Assuming the subs are done, I'll be looking for a DVD come Gencon, or any other cons I'll be at this year. One can hope!

One guy sitting alone at his desk with a copy of the script vs a set of actors + a recording technician + a director + the translator. The later takes a lot more coordination, effort and resources. It is not unheard of the subtitles being done before the main actors are done.

I didn't expect my post to be put into a thread of it's own. :udgy: lol

Well, everything I typed is word-for-word down to the format. It's possible that the editors don't know about any other screenings. Or perhaps this was written before the other screenings were announced? :yuusaku:

As for the dubs...it's possible that they aren't finished yet. Or maybe they changed their mind.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm not really looking forward to the dubs. Since this is a live action movie, the words won't match the mouthing and I would find that distracting and annoying. Also it would feel weird...American voices coming out of Japanese people... :payne: That's just me and my feelings though. I suppose that's why they would have subs and dubs.

I'm actually looking forward to the dub. If only because it might give us an idea as to what Phoenix/Maya might sound like in the crossover with Layton. Personally, I'd be perfectly fine with Sam Riegal being Phoenix again. Loved him as Nick in UMVC3, and would respect Capcom/Miike to pick him up again to dub the movie.

Yes! In fact, it is showing this weekend :phoenix:

I think the reason why everyone is saying the movie is being screened exclusively in California at AM2 is because HIFF in Hawaii didn't announce its film lineup until March 20.

Eeh I dunno I think they could have got a marginally deeper voice for Phoenix.

Still regarding our AA fanbase do we have any lucky people going to the Hawaiian screening soon?
Would be good to get a review of the film from someone on-site.

I'm excited about this :) I already purchased my e-tickets for it this weekend a few days ago. It's subbed at the HIFF (as mentioned in the thread posted earlier), but it's definitely good news if they're set on localizing the movie! If anything, the preview to the movie showed that the subs were adjusted to the English names, at least for HIFF, but I think I should try to remember their Japanese names anyway :will:

Aww man XD A part of me was thinking "None of our members will be in Hawaii, we're screwed" but it's great to know someone is lucky enough to see it.

Be sure to give us reviews on if it's good or not and if it's just a GIANT BAG OF REFERENCES.
