Here at Court-Records. If there's but one series we love as much as Ace Attorney: It's Hotel Dusk. CiNG, the company behind the great adventure games went bankrupt just over two years ago with Hotel Dusk's sequel "Last Window" created as a sort of farewell to the company in Japan and Europe.

So when we hear anything regarding that company we feel compelled to report. Over at Neogaf, we hear that the mastermind behind the writing localization is up for an award at Amazon.

My good friend and coworker Alan Averill (http://www.alanaverill.com) -- whose work many of you have likely already read whether you realized it or not (he was the main writer on Hotel Dusk, Nier, Tales of Graces f, and several others; he also worked on the two DS Advance Wars games, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, etc.) -- self-published a novel last year called The Beautiful Land that is now up for a major award on Amazon (the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award). The winner is determined by votes, and voting ends in 48 hours. If he wins, he'll get a publishing deal with Penguin (!!!).

He's up against two other dudes for the award. Selfishly, I want him to win because he's a good friend of mine (who does a lot of work for 8-4) and I think he deserves it -- but on a grander scale, I want him to win because he's a game writer, and good game writers are HARD TO FIND. The community here at GAF is by far the best and most influential in the gaming world (2ch can suck it), and I think with our support, we can help him get this victory and get his book published.

Anyway, it takes 30 seconds to vote -- if you've ever enjoyed any of the above games, or just want to do your part to help a gaming dude achieve his dreams, all you gotta do is head here and drop your vote for him in the General Fiction category:

Voting ends in less than 48 hours, BTW. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks for being awesome, GAF ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

Voted.

If everyone on GAF who said they voted really did, this guy's got it easy. Completely deserves it, though.

I don't know if this helps or not, but when I ordered from Amazon's UK branch my login stuff carried over. With total irony, that UK order was for Another Code: R, another CiNG title.

I see, I'll try logging in with my Amazon.ca account.

Voted. Also, there is a free Kindle copy available. I'm not sure if it's the full book or just a sample, though.

Well, the original poster on NeoGaf got his facts a little mixed up... Averill didn't exactly write anything for Hotel Dusk, rather he translated it (and did a freaking mighty job at it).

That being said, I just voted for him. Didn't know he was an actual writer. Kinda funny how you always hear about Bill Trinen, but never of Averill.
And by the way, you just need an Amazon account, not necessarily a Amazon.com one.

And for a second, I thought it was the Japanese writer up for a new game ;__;

I also thought at first that the original Japanese writer of Hotel Dusk was up for the award, but I voted for Mr. Averill anyway, since I do think the game was well-localised.

Thanks for the heads-up, Wooster!

Just voted. Crossing my fingers he wins the award. And it's true what he said over there, good game writers are really hard to find.

Done and done, dude deserves it, I'm worried about the number of games with satisfying and good plots these days.

Read the sample and got interested, so I bought the book. It's only $1USD, and I wanted to support him more with more than just a vote.
