Don't worry, Darzie. I'm looking over his animations, and getting a few ideas...let's hope they can be put into practice.

I take one look at that and the first thing that comes to mind is:

Leprechaun.

Alright, I think it's obvious now that Hamigaki's too freaky beyond all reason to make a smilie for.

Spoiler:
So how about the Arumajiki Trio? We've got Present!Varan, so unless Croik forbids it and spoilery smilies aren't allowed, then perhaps we could have Young!Varan, Yuumi, Zakku, and Tensai as well.

I FORBID IT!!!!!!!!

*ahem*

I mean, other than the Varan that's already been made, Zakku would be all right (maybe his laughing or side-facing sprite? Something a little less generic). Tensai is all right since all he is is a face. But the other two you mentioned should remain off until the game has actually been released outside Japan.

That's something for the Admins to determine.

In any case, I do agree that we have a lot of smilies, but I don't mind. It's nice to have a variety of smilies.

More Smilies = more enjoyment

also
it gives us summit to talk about.

I would, but I can't nail the sprite. She wither doesn't simle enough, or over does it.

As soon as I can find a way to nail it, I'll do it.

nada

basically,
copying Deefunx's intro to smiley making for me-

Quote:
- copy the sprite you want to mimic into paint.

- use the  smiley, and delete the lines using the closest yellow colour.

- manually reconstruct the smiley based on the original sprite.

- alternately, use paint to resize large parts of the original sprite to 50%, then 80%. It won't be perfect, but you'll have a base to start on. Used here :will: for instance.

to make them move is another story...
which I will look for,
HP said it i believe.

To make 'em move, you have to have an image editor that deals with layers, such as photoshop or fireworks.

1. get a small yellow circle as your base (Image) and delete the background so it is transparent.

2. Use the lasoo tool to capture the hair and any additional important details (hats, beards, pipes etc.) From the original sprite.

3. copy those into a new image, and resize them "To nearest neibour" as bilinear makes things go blurry.

4. copy these onto the yellow circle, and position them accrdingly.

5. Draw on the details of face, and hands if applicable with the pencil tool.

6. For animations, if only the faces change, not the postion of the head/hair etc, duplicate the layer and redraw the new face. Do movements fairly slowly, so it doesn't jump around. You should probably have about 3 layers at least in gradual movements.

7. When finished, go "File -> Save for web -> check the 'animate' box and the 'loop' box -> Press ok!"

That should do it. Image

paint works just as well for animations, except for converting them into .gif (or indexing them which is all microsoft animation thiggy requires), which I'm letting photoshop handle.

but you would still have to use photoshop to animate them. Waste of time. Photoshop has better C&P tools. May as well do it all in there.
Oh, AND you cannot transparent in paint.

Oh, AND you cannot transparent in paint.

I only use photoshop for one thing: indexing the image. And copy-pasteing into my animation program.

And I don't need to do transparancies. As a matter of fact, I CANNOT do transparancies, because I have to assign a transparant colour in my animation program. And transparancy just turns white.

Photoshop is very lacking with tools needed for creating smileys. Paint has alot more potential. The tools are much less advanced, true, but I do pixel-by-pixel editing. That is basicly impossible in photoshop, unless you try and emulate paint, which is then rather pointless. Granted, photoshop has better zooming and layers and such, but I don't need that as much as the ability to put a single pixel down, and creating a one pixel line without any anti-aliasing. The photoshop tools are simply too advanced for creating smileys, and sprites as a whole. I've tried it, and I do not aprove of it. Photoshop is more useful for textures and photographies. Not sprites. Besides, I simply hate how photoshop handles diffrent images and how pasting means pasting onto a diffrent layer entirely. I don't like it's advanced features for something as simply as making a smiley.

anyways, here is how I made the daian laugh smiley. If you're interested.
