The reason the text looks awkward (apart from the ugly jaggedness) is because the lines of text are too close together vertically.
If they had two lines of text rather than three, or had a smaller font with a larger gap between lines, it would be easier to read.

And yes, only the case 1-5 sprites look any good in hi-res.

It's the same art they uses in the art books and TGS shorts. People were always clamorimg for the PC version which they thought had the HD sprites in them. (It didn't, it wasn't even DS quality. It was a straight GBA port). And now they're too cartoony? Poor frame rate I can understand, no blinking, sure. But cartoony? Wow.

C'mon, it's different. Those may look somewhat cartoony, but they're nowhere near the HD sprites. You can pratically see the drawings, like it was some sort of MS Paint-gone-wrong sprite project. Just imagine those four characters in HD. They'd look even more cartoony.

When put into that perspective, Capcom did lie to the fans when they said GS2 was as long as GS1DS and therefore didn't warrant an extra case.
Part-wise, that may be true, but does that apply to the actual length of the cases? For example, 3-5 has less parts than 1-5, but I'm sure the time it takes to finish that episode is significantly longer than 1-5 because so much happens in each part.

I do, however, believe the first game is still a bit longer than the second. I've speedran through the first game which took me approx. 5.5 hours, but I haven't for the other games so I'm not too sure.

Parts are not divided by transition between investigation and court, unless the parts are really short (See GS1-2). As best as I can tell, it's whenever you would've been prompted to save in the DS version. So how much they jam into a case isn't directly relevant, but more narrative pace. And consider this: Every case after GS1 has worked under a two day trial. GS1-5 is a three day trial. It's got more time to fit more content in.

For some reason the font in the text box is really bugging me. Can't put my finger on it.

:toaster: Okay, I finally figured out what was actually driving me crazy about the text. It's the kerning. The jagged text was a placebo issue to what I was actually referring to in this post. (Not that it isn't an issue too, but not 'the' issue). Look at the Word "Why" and then the word "you" what do you notice about the spacing, specifically about the letter Y. Then there's the "i" in Testimony, and j in "Just".

Good point. I guess I meant that even on the DS version the GS1 sprites always seemed to have larger outlines and more rounded edges. Maybe not "cartoony". But there's a sharpness and a difference in drawing style between the first game and the rest. I'm not saying its a problem with GS123HD, but rather just with the original drawings. I played PW:AA after beating Apollo Justice, and even then the difference was pretty Jarring. ;)

Can you explain this 'retina-mode' I keep hearing about?

Retina mode is where the pixel density is so high that your eye can not discern any one pixel. At that barrier, there's absolutely no point in boasting a higher resolution. There's no point. Screenshots you see that I've posted take at most 25% of the area on your screen. Images look especially crisp on retina.

On the other hand, I don't think retina for iPad will get you much of anything. The game in Japan was released (or at least in final stages) before the retina iPad was released. Even then, there's no separate sprite sheet for iPhone or iPad. So while it'll still be quite great on the iPad, it won't have the retina magic.

"Retina Display" is an awful brand name that makes Apple products sound better than they actually are. I have a Sony Xperia S which has a higher pixel density than the iPhone 4S. At this rate, most handheld devices will soon boast that high a pixel density, so don't be fooled by buzzwords...

Yeah I was thinking it doesn't sound like such a big deal, I've never been a graphical nut anyway and somewhat contrary to some of the marketing I've heard some people say they quite like to see pixels in their games.

I was just confused by the term because...y'know...most of us have working retinas so doesn't every game support retinas....

Awesome! I wasn't aware of any Android phones that had hit that barrier. Though...

Why would they abuse such nice new hardware with 2? It's not like that's an old phone. They've got no excuse.

Ice Cream Sandwich is taking forever to come to a lot of devices for some reason. Maybe they decided to get their product out faster so they just supplied Gingerbread with it? This is has been a trend with my own experiences with Android over the last couple of years. I bought the Droid X for Gingerbread (Flash support) and it took ages for it to actually come out for that phone.

I found this report from June one it, so its a little outdated but I don't think things have gotten much better yet.
http://news.cnet.com/8301-33620_3-57449 ... rs-notice/
But they do slowly but surely come out. They need to do a good job of getting it out faster though.

It's not even version 3. It's 2. It's shy of two years old. 3 came out 3 months later then 2.3. There's no bloody excuse to use 2.3. There's gotta be something political involved.

The Sony Xperia S couldn't have gotten Android 3.0, since it's a version exclusively created for tablets, and not for smartphones (it was their first step toward creating a unified OS for both tablets and smartphones, which ended up in Android 4.0, known as Ice Cream Sandwich).
Which is why some new phones have 2.3 installed, because there's nothing between that and 4.0.

As for why they stuck with 2.3 instead of 4.0 depends on when the phone was released. Most constructors just preferred to release their hardware with an 'older' version of the OS, and allow later for upgrading, instead of trying to get the newer version, but having something unstable or whatnot (and also, some were plainly lazy, but heh).

Ironically enough, my phone's been performing significantly worse since I upgraded it to ICS. I'm guessing it's more of a RAM hog, like the Vista of Android. Would downgrade to 2.3 if I didn't love Google Chrome so much.

EDIT: Just been doing some reading and the main reasons anyone likes ICS are the 'improved' UI and hardware acceleration. Yep, Vista and then some.

I was trying to guestimate when the Phoenix Wright Trilogy will hit us. All we know is that it's "Autumn"

Well, there's two autumns in the United States.

First the one we all think of, which lasts from September 22nd to December 21st.
Then there's Fiscal Fall, which is October 1st through December 31st.

For events Capcom might want to align the release with...
TGS lasts from the 20th to the 23rd of September.
New York Comic Con is October 14th-16th. Capcom is attending.

Is anyone going to NY Comic Con?

I'm inclined to think it'll hit the iOS shelves during or after Comic Con when they promote it.

That would make a ton of sense. Release the game while at Comic Con, advertise it and say you can go and buy it now. Then they can really ride the word of mouth,

… but if they can go and buy it now, why would they visit the booth in the first place? Kind of a chicken and the egg paradox. But yeah, at or after Comic Con seems the most strategic.

For promotions sake. Granted, these events have wifi, but that doesn't guarantee a successful download, seeing as how it may take HOURS before the full game is downloaded. In the mean time you get to your house with a stable connection, play it on our booth! :phoenix:
