Or rather, threesome rant.
...And I'm not actually a threesome person, so when I say "threesome," I generally mean "I like multiple combinations of this and so putting them all together would be interesting" rather than "I can see these people in a threesome, getting along as a threesome," so this is going to be less a threesome rant and more a multiple pairing rant. Could also end up as a triangle pairing.

So, given that meaning, I'll take the three combinations in turn from favorite to least:

AdrianxPenny: My interest in this pairing originates in this piece of art. I originally entertained the thought as a cute friendship pairing, set in between 1-3 and 2-4 assuming that Penny is still working at Global Studios, in which Penny admires Adrian's apparent strength and position as the Nickel Samurai's manager, trying to chat with her when possible and maybe bringing her cute little gifts and such to try to get her to show her warmer side, while Adrian tries to keep up her usual act while being secretly nervous and flattered. The cheerful version of Adrian in TaT and Penny could perhaps remain good friends.

...Then after some discussion in the "Adrian: Lesbian or LESBIAN?" thread, I started writing a platonic fic and it turned from happy fluff rainbows into meandering character speculation, angst, and random nonsequiters especially in the second chapter which is currently making no sense and that I am currently procrastinating on >>;
But that's neither here nor there.

Anyway, what struck me about the pairing as I wrote and discussed it, and what lead me to become so fond of putting the two together (really mostly platonically, but I'm generally open to anything), was how similar they are. It's subtle--they don't have huge whopping main personality traits they both share, and the obvious parts of their characters don't intersect (for example, Penny does not have codependency and I have a hard time imagining Adrian fangirling over the Steel Samurai), but they both have subtle details about their character that make the two enormously fun to speculate about.

For example, one could compare the subtle way Penny tried to ignore the negative things going on around her (her smiling and acting generally cheerful and mildly spontaneous throughout a murder case, the scene where, despite her Steel Samurai obsession she acted indifferent to the fact that it was ending) to the way that Adrian tried to hide her codependency from everyone around her and act tough while also trying to hide her secrets about Celeste. They both hide certain things about how they're feeling and about themselves--Penny frequently talks about "what type of girl" people think she is, as if trying to convince herself, and she tries to hide little subtle things about herself, such as how she fangirls over the Steel Samurai. As much as these things contrast in subject matter with the way that Adrian tries to hide the codependent part of herself, I can see them connecting on the main level of acting differently then what they're really thinking. Penny was probably worried sick when Will was arrested and there'd been a murder, and she probably felt very down about her favorite show ending, but she kept a smile on her face and these things rarely cropped up in her conversation with others. She tried to let others see her as the cheerful girl she usually was no matter what was going on inside. Adrian, after the murder of one of her biggest rivals, after stabbing a knife in his body and having people bring out her most well-kept secrets and being accused of murder, kept an indifferent smirk on her face as much as possible. When you go to meet her in jail, she's still smirking at you. She tried to let others see her as the put-together manager that she usually tried to be.

Now, there's something quite strange about saying "These people both hide who they are, so they would be a good romantic pairing," and that's not what I'm saying at all. I don't like the idea of them in a relationship before 2-4--I adore the idea of them being friends before and after that, but Adrian with ANYONE seriously while she's maintaining her facade is just squicky, especially considering she was with Juan. But I like the idea of them bonding before that case, and perhaps while Adrian is tranforming into the person she is in TaT Penny can visit her in jail and Adrian can explain some things--it would be good for both of them I think, as Adrian could sort out her no doubt hectic thoughts and a friend visiting no doubt makes jail much more bearable--also, going back to what I said before about the mild way Penny tries to ignore what's going on around her, it might be good for her to sort through serious issues such as what Adrian's been through--it could help if they both connected on an emotional level. After Adrian is let out of jail, they could be good friends and, eventually, become romantic if that's your inclination, although really them being platonic just makes much more sense as there's nothing really indicative of romance and AdrianxFranziska makes more sense anyway. Besides, I sort of doubt Penny would be gay, although perhaps bisexual.

Anyway, I'll wrap this pairing up by going back to what I started with, which was their similarities, and which was a topic that I never really fully explored. What I explained before was what struck me as their main similarites, but there are other little things that are random or just assumed on my part--for instance, I can see them both talking about books they read or their glasses whilst tidying up a dirty lunch table and breaking many plates in the process :P It's not really indicative of romance but it's just cute.

I've rambled on enough so I'll keep these other two brief as they're not pairings that I've thought about much:
WillxPenny: She was concerned for and cared about him in 1-3, and although they don't interact in-game, they definitely know each other and it'd just be cute. They're similar ages, both friendly, outgoing, and nice people that are interested in shows and stars. It's more of a fluff pairing than anything else.

WillxAdrian: I'm more of an AdrianxFranziska and WillxPenny type of person, but this is fun to give a little thought to imo although the thought of Adrian in a straight relationship is a bit...odd to me. He was interested in her, although that's not really a basis for romance since he didn't really know her, he just liked her image--so there's no real in-game indications. However, he's a compassionate, caring man who could make her feel better about her co-dependency, and if she was dependent on him it might help his low self-esteem. I guess basically it's a "Feel better about yourself" sort of pairing all around.

I'm not sure if it applies to PWAA law but I think there is a US law that an un-healthy man cannot be executed. I'm not sure who all it would apply to, but seeing Arco is paraplegic I dont think he would be eligable for the death penalty. I think the DA/Judge would not seek the death penalty with Arco anyway as he is such a sympathetic case.

I sort of like WillxPenny, but I actually find it hard to pair Penny up with anyone because I always forget she's not 16, she looks so young. ^^;

I've been thinking more and more about doing a E/F essay thing, because I think my views on the pairing is very different then most people (which is rather surpaising to me.... Like, I think a lot of things that I think of while doing at th epeople, no one else does...) And a Phoenix/Mia, just cause I just find that so adorable <3

That actually stopped me from liking WillxPenny for quite some time, because I thought Penny was 15-16 and Will was 30esque based on their sprites :/

And yes, please do write the E/F essay! :D I don't think I've ever read any E/F rants that WEREN'T the equivalent of "AIRPORT SCENE IS ROMANTIC HUR HUR" which it...really isn't :/ And I'm retarded and can't explain very well what exactly about post-game E/F appeals to me, so I'd love to read your opinion on the pairing :)

While I do think the airport scene is cute, I don't think it was romanctic. It may have been what got me into the pairing, because I was just watching it over NS's shoulder, and I don't think I really new what was going on; just that Edgeworth was talking with the female Prosecutor who whips people and is pretty x3 But the fact that they got their own little scene, and the random phantom thoughts of "I like them." floating in my head started it x3

But, I know it wasn't romantic, it was still part of the game, and I agree they're still like siblings at the time. (could it have been the start of something different? Maybe? Maybe not? If I write the thing I could go into that, since I love looking at different possiblities x3)

The thing about using the airport scene as ANYTHING romantic, even as a start, is the complete lack of anything about them TOGETHER :/ Edgeworth was telling her to go on with her life, but he wasn't telling her that HE would help her do it. The whole scene just doesn't give a sense of them staying with each other--we have her dealing with her own inner trauma, and we have him threatening to leave her to get her to keep going. "If you're really quitting your walk down the prosecutor's path, then this is where we part way" is just not romantic. It's not. It's adorable and it's my favorite scene but it's not about a pair becoming romantic. It's about a pair of sibings and about him giving her what she needs.

HOWEVER, and this is going to sound odd, but I guess if you want to be technical, it IS the airport scene that makes me like the pairing. For me, it's not about thinking that they're romantic at all IN THAT SCENE, but that scene just springboards so much character developmen and it makes me interested in how, years later, they could change their views of each other and perhaps become romantic. It made me interested in their dynamic and they have so much history and he knows her so well that I could see their relationship changing in the future.

I seriously doubt it. If anything, the airport scene absolutely hammered home that their bond is a sibling bond. Edgeworth calmly told Franziska he would walk away if she didn't step up, which drove her to tears. That's not romantic--that's emotional blackmail. In the capacity of a sibling bond, that sort of tough love can be necessary and even sweet in its own way. If it's an indication of romantic love, it becomes very creepy very fast.

Yeah, I agree with that. That's actually kind of what I meant by "could this scene be the start of a change?" Romantic change right then and there? Hell no. But, maybe a change that within a few months time, could develop into something else. If anything, this scene shows us that they affect each other in ways that not many other people do. (... ok, so, not really, since Phoenix probably brought out the biggest change in Miles; but Miles was able to bring out Ziska's softer side. Again, not romantic, what could be a kind of springbroad.)

Well, yes. We know that Miles is the most important person in Franziska's life--we more or less learn that in 2-3.

But I have to reiterate I see no indications in that scene for anything resembling a nonsibling bond, or the start of a change towards one. It's a beautiful scene, and one of my favorite demonstrations of love in the series, but the way it's expressed actually comes across as actively counter-romantic to me.

And, personally, I like that. Miles can be the most important person in Franziska's life, the one who causes her to change herself, as her "little brother". I don't see a need to or much of a compelling reason to change it. Much of their unique bond and the special way they're able to relate to each other stems from the fact that they are family, and I think a shift towards romantic would disrupt that. I love their sibling bond and what that brings to both of them as characters so much that I don't care much for the thought of it shifting. They already gain so much from each other as they are, because they are as they are now.

Oh, I know, I know. I just have a habit of over thinking things, wondering "Oh, what about this? Or this? Oh, could this happen? Maybe this, that, etc." I was mostly meaning, uh, maybe, like, in a fanfic, maybe the scene could be used if Franziska or Miles were trying to understand how they felt or something. Personally, I wouldn't have it be the start of something, romantic, but the start of something different.

I'm a big fan of Edgeworth/Mia. It started out as an idle "these two are hot THEREFORE they'd be hotter together!" thing, but I'm just more and more fascinated by what could have been if they actually knew each other (in the Biblical sense or otherwise).

And I like Gant/Lana, for the twisted and unhealthy nature of their canon relationship. It only gets more screwed up if you add a romantic/sexual element. Mmm.

Other than that, I'm easy. Any pairing developed well and kept reasonably IC is cool with me, and I like seeing weird/rare/outright crack pairings. Variety's the spice of life, after all!

A huge part of what I loved about that scene was that that was exactly what was going on. Miles knew what to say to her to get her fighting again, and Franziska understood what he was trying to do. It spoke to how well they knew each other, more than anyone else. Because they're family.



Well, it is the start of something different--Franziska starting to break free of her father's dogma and walk her own path, at Miles's encouragement. As far as something different in their relationship, I'm genuinely curious as to what you mean exactly, and what specifically in the scene made you think that.

That's thing, I don't know what it could, nor did anthing make me think it. I only said what I said, because it's just the way I think. "Such and such is probably this, but it could be this."

I can't really explain what i mean, I barely know myself. It was just something, I dunno, I felt I should have added (I think may have been my odd way of saying "but if you want to view it this way, go ahead", then I guess giving a way someone could.) I tend to try to look the eyes of characters as if they were real, andthings are never black and white to me. Most things are grey, and when I try to explain things, I tend to give example of how characters could react to things. Just whatt hey are, I never really know; I leave them up to whoever wants to try to figure it out.

Gosh, I'm not even sure what I'm saying. >< I'm sorry I can't give you a real answer; I barely know one myself. It wasn't really a serious comment, I didn't mean anthing by it; it was more like a mind wondering thing...

/ - When I read that Gumshoe had a crush on Maggey in JFA, I was like "Wait, what?" and I had to go back and play it again to see it. But yeah, it's a really cute pairing. And I just like Maggey in general...Don't really know why.

I'm not really much of a shipping debater, usually when I find a shipping that I really like... I just keep my miniture fandom inside of me.... sometimes.

Often I become a fan of a couping when I read fanfiction or look at fanart, In the PW universe case... I got most of my shipping fandom from fanart.


I saw a few fanart for them, and really started to like the coupling...... for reasons unknown, yes I am strange like that. And with that small dialouge in 1-5, I was all like "Eeeeeeee, yayness!" :P Yes I know I am strange. Anyway, I kinda perfer GS4 Ema x Edgey... but that's just me.
