From a playthrough I watched, it looked like fun and I enjoy the task of collecting things. But it also looks like it's simply the same thing over and over - Jumping or Racing as either Sonic for maybe some Rings.

I played that game and completed it 100% and I liked it a lot. Please note that I have a soft spot for Sonic games since Sonic Adventure 2 battle, but Generations is simply really good.
1: You're able to control Sonic pretty well this time around. The game feels responsive and most scenario's are easy to beat with some skill or trial and error. Seeing as this was the major letdown in Sonic 06 and Unleashed, this is a huge step forward
2: Music = A+ It's just that darn good
3: Graphics: colorful and stylish
4: As Sonic Generations takes the best level of several other Sonic games I'd have to say the levels / gamefeel also feels amazing. (City Escape from SA2 just gets me everytime)
5: no Tails bullcrap, no Big, No Amy, No playable robots etc. (Knuckles segments in SA1&2 were fun though) Just you're plain old running Sonic style.
So it basically boils down to: do you like sonic games? getting from A to B as fast as possible? If yes, you should definitely get it (you probably should get it for quite a nice price nowadays) and if you don't like Sonic games then simply don't.

Hearing the remixes is like half the reason I got it.
Though yes after a length trial and error period Sonic Generations is the culmination of their efforts into 3D running.
Not quite like SA2 battle, it was more platforming for a good bit and there is some of it but since Sonic and the Secret rings they've been working through the whole "Running into the screen" gameplay and it's perfected here.
Just don't expect much from the plot....pretty sure this ain't canon and is just played for fun anyway.

I'll agree on Metal Sonic, that one was good.
However since Shadow and Sonic are such strong equals I'd hoped on a more like a speed trial boss instead of dodging and punishing special attacks.

That plan sounds needlessly complex. Your computer may be able to run Sonic Generations but you'll be ok without it. Definitely do not buy Sonic Generations on 3DS for the 'plot'.

I wanna upgrade my DS collections even more, but it bothers me I haven't seen any gameplays yet...
The Wii version was okay, not that I'm expecting anything marvelous from license games, but still asking.

Hm.... well, I don't really remember playing much Sonic when I was growing up. And I only remember really playing Sonic Heroes a few years ago, when my brother sent it to me as a Christmas gift - after a few levels I gave up on dying all the time and sold it.
So I don't know if I'm a Sonic liker or hater...

And how about Pokemon Black & White 2 along with Pokemon Conquest? I kind of lost my interest in pokemon because keeping up with it all feels more like a chore than fun to me.
(That and Phoenix Wright is extremely addicting for me, but I must say that I thought the latest pokemon movie was amazing.)

Well I haven't played Sonic Heroes for myself but I hear it stands next to Sonic 06 in terms of how bad the game is. It could be this game ruined your perspective on the series and I can assure you that Sonic Generations is a solid game. Maybe you can play a level or 2 at a friend or something (I'd recommend City Escape) and determine from there whether you like the game or not.

Sonic Colours was a step in the right direction though and Generations was even better. Both games are not created on a SEGA system so I believe your statement is a bit rash. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but I believe you're badgering the series based on it's bad reputation. If you've played either of those games I'd like to see some of your arguments why the games aren't good. If you haven't played them... then I'd say you're to quick to judge a book on its cover.
Speaking of antropomorphic protagonists, has anyone played Ardy Lightfoot on the SNES? I believe it was a brilliant platformer but I never heard from it again...

Sonic Heroes is a fine and fun game, it was good to see more of the Sonic crew get involved for once (big Knuckles fan, and Team Chaotix are pretty slick too). It's hard I found to get the true ending, indeed I never did but the plain story is fine and the gameplay is fun enough specially when Power mode is required.
Also DoMaya's statement is just wrong, Sonic Heroes is fine, Sonic Rush is great, generations plays great, Unleashed's Day Sections are good and apparently Colours is fantastic too.

Sonic Heroes is possibly the hardest Sonic game to get the true ending in sure it's easier with team rose but most places just give you the final scenario for playing the game. It took dedication and extra effort to fully finish the story of Sonic Heroes.
Besides I'd say Sonic games have always been kinda casual, he's always been mainstream and Sonic games are easy to just casually play a level or two and walk away happily. I suppose it depends on the definition of casual but it seems simple and popular enough to be casual since the genesis days.

Besides I'd say Sonic games have always been kinda casual, he's always been mainstream and Sonic games are easy to just casually play a level or two and walk away happily. I suppose it depends on the definition of casual but it seems simple and popular enough to be casual since the genesis days.
I play games to enjoy the difficulty of it, this game is noteworthy because they made it easier.
But I will admit this, Sonic Rush was a guilty pleasure of mine on the DS, even though I still hate Sega.
I don't mean to sound mean about it, but you need to understand that I grew up with Sonic and Mario.

Then I guess I'm the more positive fanboy, I grew up with Sonic and Mario too but I always felt that was reason to give them respect and a little leeway if they misstep in the ever-changing world of technology and software.
Though this hardly matters, the Sonic fanbase is notoriously divisive so I reckon we'll just have to disagree as the only bad Sonic games I've played are the Storybook-based ones (I have not played 06) and they were more or less the trial run for modern Sonic mechanics.

I've grown up with Mario (and I love the little plumber) but I have to admit that I was a bit envious of my friend who had a SEGA Dreamcast with Sonic on it. After the Adventure series made their way to the Gamecube I could play the series for my self and I haven't stopped since. Both Characters and series are great and both should get the respect they deserve.
About Sonic's story related games... well they do tend to suffer from the gameplay perspective. A game that's all about reaching the goal in the fastest amount of time will perform better then one where the levels guide you along the story because the focus in terms of developing shift.
And people tend to play Sonic for the fast gameplay. The story is mostly seen as an extra value on the side.
That brings me to Sonic 06 though.
@Pierre: don't play it. The story is horrible and the gameplay is even worse. Here's why:
Did you know? When Sonic was created (as an attempt from SEGA to rival the popularity from Mario) many different concepts were handed in for his design. The one who got chosen (our classic Sonic as you knew him) was supposed to have a human love interest. A long legged beauty in a short red dress ( like betty boop without the freakishly large head) who'd be in the need to be rescued from the villain like in the Mario games. The human love interest was scrapped and replaced with forest animals who were captured by doctor Robotnik.
This concept returned in Sonic 06 though. Princess Elise get's capture by Robotnik (aka Eggman) and get's rescued by Sonic later on. In this process she starts falling in love with him.
The rest of the story though, where Silver thinks he's rescuing the world from Sonic is just whacky and inconsistent. Shadows story is OK by me but nothing spectacular (Bad guy screws things over so Shadow is out to get him).
So thus far nothing is really special. I'm gonna fast forward to the conclusion here:

Now onto the gameplay. there are 3 different ones: Sonic's, Silver's and Shadow's.
Sonic: Controls are a mess. Seriously. you can't get get from A to B without knowing EXACTLY what you're doing. Even the scripted scenes can result into death if you enter them in a not precise enough way. The mach speed sections where you go fast until you reach the goal are even worse, but I'll put a link at the end of my post that will just about show everything.
Silver: Gameplay is slow as hell. His psycokinesis attacks won't work properly unless you execute them perfectly and quite frankly is just very boring. This is a shame because SEGA really tried to do something different with him. They failed horribly though.
Shadow: Although it's a bit more combat oriented and multiple vehicles are implemented it's not that bad. the thing is though, you beat literally everything with mashing the A button. This get's quite boring real fast.
AND EVEN WITH ALL THIS, the game is full of glitches, bad programming choices and the graphics aren't to spectacular either (the opening cutscene look very good though). The worst of it all is probably the loading screens. They take incredibly long and come up way to often. When you do a side mission in town it's as following: start talking: 15 second wait --> the talk happens (which is about 2 or 3 lines) --> 15 second wait --> mission --> result screen --> 15 second wait.

Sorry for this rant. This game is probably what gave Sonic his bad reputation and it's pretty understandable after playing it.
Even though I S ranked every mission and side-mission, I have to admit this game is bad.

Although, like I said, their playthrough is what made me interested in playing a Sonic game, albeit any other game that's better.

Nah, not really. Watching the Critic's review of the two Sonic Shows certainly made me laugh at the hedgehog and I pretty much forgot all about Sonic Heroes. And like I said, I watched gameplay of KWife (and sometimes KWing) playing through the game - I'm just wondering if I'd get too bored with constantly running and speeding.
Like with Layton.
But since Sonic is something where I can actually speed through things, literally, and most levels don't seem to take too long, I might get further before I feel the "Oh my god, when is this thing over?"-vibe.
Don't have anybody to mooch the game off of, but I guess I'll go buy it.

I have the previous DoA games (except Dimensions, I need to import that cause I have a Japanese 3DS) and they are fun fighting games - volleyball/mini-games in case of Xtreme Beach Volleyball and Xtreme 2.
But the game, whether 360 or PS3 version, cost 60€ right now... and I don't really wanna spend that much on 1 game.
The PS3 version would get me a 20% discount right now, but still....

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'm saving my money for Ace Attorney Investigations though.
It's kind of hard for me to not buy a game because of it's story because I guess I like videogames that have a story. (And the story for the latest Layton game interested me.)
But when I finally forced myself to play Super Mario Bros U, I loved it, and it's challenging. I recommend this game to all people who love platforming.

I can't bring myself to own a DOA game. The fanservice is too much for me even if my memories of when I played the games were as a slick awesome fighter with awesome counter moves.
Same reason I wouldn't want to own Catherine really live in a family household.
