Anyone been keeping up with the whole "Phantom Pain" thing? People keep finding more and more clues in the trailer and have pretty much confirmed that it is Metal Gear related. There's also the hidden text above The Phantom Pain saying "Metal Gear Solid V".

Anyone been following this?
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

It's just so ridiculous....

But Kojima is MAD AS BALLS if he did do all this for it and I'm kinda inclined he's crazy/dramatic enough to do it.

The speculation behind it is amazing. I wouldn't even be surprised if it was a Metal Gear game, hell I'd welcome it. Whatever it is I heard it's coming to the 360 as well so it couldn't possibly be a continuation of MGS4 since we never got to play it anyways. Scratch that. Mass Effect 2 went to PS3 and they eventually got ME1.

If I was going to pick someone in the game industry that was "mad as balls", Kojima would be a sure pick.

I just love how intricate some of the stuff is. Things like the fact that the studio's logo is a whales tail, and the "whale's tail" is apparently a piece of land where the previously-announced Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes was going to take place, or the fact that the trailer is blatantly letting people know that the editing is wrong chronologically. There's even some evidence that JJ Abrams might be involved and working with Kojima on it. It's getting truly crazy. It reminds me a lot of all the hype and discussion when the first trailer for Cloverfield came out a while back. If this is truly the 5th numbered entry in the series, I am surprised that Kojima would do something so different than the other main games, but that might be what makes it an awesome/evolutionary title for the series.

But is it totally Metal Gear Solid related. The soldiers have the same armor from Ground Zeroes, That fire guy looks way too much like Volgin, and there's those font cracks which can't be a coincidence.

Yes but who would the dude be.
Too young for Big Boss or Snake. Wrong Arm for Liquid.

Plus 4 ended so well...I don't mind spin offs for Big Boss because he's amazing and still has story elements that can be explored but another main series game?

I think even though it's "5" it is still a big boss story. So it's kind of a spin-off even though it's not. I would argue that it's not to old to be Big Boss as the trailer for Ground Zeroes is a little misleading. Apparently the light in the scene made Snake's hair grey, but in the promotional stills Big Boss looks almost as young as in Peace Walker. So assuming these are close together it wouldn't be hard to imagine this as Big Boss.

I thought his age was starting to show in Peace Walker.

Ehwha? This is on Xbox now?
Geez after the extreme lengths Sony went to maintain exclusivity for 4 they must've seriously messed up to lose it here. I'm just worried it'll result in content being cut across the board like what ruined XIII.

Though whatever, I'm immensely curious to know if you are still playing Big Boss, bearded and one handed the protaganist may be but with the introduction of the 'third man' mentioned by Miller I'm not sure whether Kojima will pull some sort of bait an switch ploy with Big Boss.

Yeah Phantom Pain was confirmed for PS3 and Xbox when they were asked if it was gonna be on the PS4. Yeah I have a PS3 now, but I still prefer to play on my Xbox.
Are you saying that we'll play as Big Boss for that QWOP introduction, and then they'll pull an MGS2 where we have to play a Raiden character for the rest of the game?

Perhaps not a 'Raiden' character though he would be by comparison.

Rumours I hear are that we may play as young Snake after all it'd been several years since les enfant terribles went down, perhaps Liquid or Solid are old enough to undergo training.

Eitherway at somepoint Big Boss is gonna go full villain he can't have much time left before the Outer Heaven incident and he personally trained Solid Snake before that went down.

Additionally
Spoiler: Peace Walker
The prosthetic hand Big Boss uses (from the Biker gang scene at the end of the trailer) looks like it belongs to Russian Ramon Galvez Mena, the spy from Peace Walker.

I know nothing of MGS lore since it's so spread out across consoles I don't own. Nanomachines!

From what I read on another forum, Solid Snake would be around 11 years old at the time this game takes place, so I don't think training would be in the cards. Not to mention that David Hayter was not asked to come back to voice Solid Snake, but that doesn't rule out the character appearing altogether.

You're never too young to undergo harsh training! MGS 5 could potentially be ALL about 11 year old Solid.

Raiden kinda started his training earlier than that so...yeah.

Though I still think Hayter might be on the cards but he's being kept as a secret reveal, like

Spoiler: MGS4
Richard Doyle showing up to voice Big Boss in MGS4.

Fans were upset that David Bateson wasn't voicing 47 in Hitman Absolution, but eventually he was hired to do his voice again.

Gametrailers were lucky enough to get an interview with Joakim Mogren!

Well it answers some questions but he's irritatingly evasive on some of the big ones...like whether Hayter is back or whether it'll be two games or one. I'll probably buy it either way but will feel sad for Hayter being dropped like that after being so loyal.
