I could have sworn a thread about this already existed, but I can't find it, so...

Introduction, for whatever reason:

A great many stories, in various forms, have been made into movies. We have books like War and Peace, musical works like Swan Lake, and, of course, historical events like the passage of the 13th Amendment. Needless to say, there's a lot of untapped film potential in existing stories, both fictional and true. Anyway, this thread is here as a place for you to discuss (or, more likely, simply post) stories that you feel deserve movie adaptations, but have yet to get them (or, failing that, have only gotten really disloyal ones).

Anyway...

One story that I think has a lot of potential for a movie is the Tchaikovsky opera Mazeppa. Having just today seen the new movie adaptation of Les Misérables, I've come to feel that the "musical movie" is something that, done right, has incredible potential--not to mention it would be nice to see Maria portrayed by someone who actually looks and sounds her character's age. The story is one that I feel could really tug at a heartstring or two, and the music makes it my absolute favorite of Tchaikovsky's works. Agree, discuss, post your own ideas, whatever.

I'll always love you, Max.

I could go for another adaption of The Nutcracker Prince since it's one of my favorite stories. And as much as love animation, there's already two animated adaptions of this story, maybe this adaption could be live action.

I heard they were going to do a movie of this at one time a couple years ago, but haven't heard anything since, but I'd really love to see a movie version of The Shack.

If you would have asked me a couple of years ago, I'd mention Hugo Cabret and The Great Gatsby, but the former was done (very very well I might add) and it seems the latter is in the process right now, so I'm quite content.

I think the amazing teenage novel, 'The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray,' would make an amazing anime movie. And all the great visual kei and dark caberet artists should do the soundtrack. :D I heard they were going to do a movie but it got cancelled.
Another good teenage series I think should be made into a movie is Holly Black's, 'Tithe.'

I think Haruki Murakami's books are amazing. 'Norwegian Wood' has a movie but I think the others should too.

The Power of Five series by Anthony Horowitz is something I wish to see!

:O I think that would be a good idea if there was live action and animation put together.

Anyone for a new Fahrenheit 451 movie? It would be appropriate making the movie in our current year of technological progress considering how many parallels it's made to modern technology (Seashells = Wireless Bluetooth speakers; Parlor walls = Flatscreen TVs). Not to mention it would be a kind tribute to Ray Bradbury considering he died in June of just last year.
