I think I've played all the RFs that are currently out - except RF4, but that's cause they can't ship it right now....
Rune Factory 2 was pretty fun, the story doesn't appear until the Second Generation, but that's where the main part of the game is. So the First Generation is very, very easy and short. All the bachelorettes are nice to look at, I love the fact that you can have a Son or a Daughter - and Second Generation onwards, you control them!
The music is okay, the controls were easy enough.
Bad side is that the english version has terrible dubbing. And I am not saying that as a Wapanese or anything. But these guys are
bad. They are literally reading their lines off of paper and like they are reading it out loud to first graders. Luckily, after the initial greeting scenes, you don't really hear them that much....
A good game!
I only played RF1 afterwards and.... well, it felt weird to me. It had the 10-Minute Time that was done in Friends of Mineral Town era. The levels didn't upgrade fast enough for my liking, the controls.... I dunno, it just shows how far RF came from 1 to 2.
RF3 is fun! Okay the main character has gotten extremely bishie.... the bachelorettes all look great and have their personalities. The levels and skills go up faster, you can determine what difficulty you want (Normal or Hard), the characters don't usually have set schedules.
Seriously, they literally stand at a place sometime and then wander around the area the rest of the time. Makes them a bit more dimensional. The story is so-so, but it has a great submessage - although it is the usual "Don't discriminate" stuff. Oh and the golden Wooly form is so cute!
Definitely a game I'd recommend. Even the english dub did well!
RF Frontier is.... well, compared to RF1, it is a huge improvement.
The graphics look much better, the controls are good and all that. You have a mix of old and new bachelorettes to choose from..... only problem is that.... well..... the damn Loading Screen. You'll get one almost every time you change to a scene or go in and out of a house. It'll really annoy you after a while.
Oh and you cannot copy your save file or anything like that.
And if you are a completionist, this will REALLY bother you because of the Memories section - especially the marriage memories. There are a total of 12 Girls to choose from (and I am gonna mention Iris Blance and Iris Noire because they are
not a Secret. They are on the freaking cover, so that secret is blown right out of the game) so you will have to replay this game 13 times to get each girl's - and both Irises - wedding memory.
And a 14th Time because Eunice has a sidequest that changes her appearance and she has two wedding memories, too.
And getting that marriage stuff is really tedious. I kind of stopped playing this game because, goddammit, the Loading Screen! Oh and the fact that I am fully prepared for Marriage, only Mist hasn't gotten to LP 10 fast enough for my liking.
But the english voices did a great job.
RF Oceans/Tides of Destiny is superb!
The graphics, the story well not really, the controls. The bachelors and bachelorettes are diverse - Okay there are only 4 Bachelors to choose from while there are, like, 8 girls? Anyhow, overall, I think this is the best RF game. The dungeons are fun and the bosses are hilarious. The music is amazing!
Seriously, I love just spending time in the Wind Shrine because the music is so freaking awesome there!
The farming has been drastically changed - basically, you just plant the seeds and tamed monsters grow certain crops and flowers for you. You just have to harvest them or let other monsters do that for you. But I found that a good change since you have SO MUCH to do in a day~
Downside would be that, well, while you do have the option of playing as a boy or a girl, you cannot choose to play as a girl until you have finished the storyline. And after that, well, aside from marriage and kids you don't really have anything else to do. Except the colisseum. Oh and the kids look kind of... blah. (Then again, better than in RF3 where they didn't sleep, eat, take presents or did anything!)
Overall, though, this is a really, really fun RF to play.
The voices were really great in this game! Although the girls that sing got auto-tuned....
