I've seen three movies very closely together, so I'll rate all three.
Man of Steel: 6/10. Superman destroyed way too much stuff and let a lot of people die, not to mention the plot holes(Superman's key thing left on Zod's ship, yet magically with Lois later on). I didn't like it very much.

Monsters University: 8/10. Good movie, ending was a bit of a letdown, I like the original better. Nice to see the chameleon guy back, he was a badass in the original.

Now You See Me: 10/10. One of the best movies I've seen this year, possibly ever. Excellent plot, excellent characters, excellent mystery, and a great plot twist. I was able to predict the solution to some of the tricks, but overall, a great movie. I highly recommend it. If you get a chance to see it, do so.

I haven't finished it yet but I finally decided to watch Cool World.....Good God what have I watched? 7/10.

The reason why I haven't gave it a lower score is because the animation is fluent and this movie may entertain...A certain group of people.

However, this movie is basically an adult Who Framed Roger Rabbit on crack and I couldn't tell if the plot was moving fowards or backwards.

Isn't that that movie with Brad Pitt and the 'toon world' there being very dark, gritty and scary? I haven't watched it, only saw clips and the Critic called it a mindfuck cause he felt like running from the theatre 'like the screen was on fire, but given the movie it was sometimes hard to tell if it really was burning or not'.

Yup that one, it was a mindf*ck.

And I guess the only reason to watch that movie would be for Holli Would.

If you liked "Cool World" you should check out "Monkeybone" it's....about as surreal except swap the cartoon world for 'coma world'

Actually I didn't. :(

This coming from someone who loves animated movies...But I'd still chose this movie and Holli Would over Kayley from Quest for Camelot. (This would probably be the only animated movie I'd care to dislike.)

Hahaha as a matter of fact I actually hated monkeybone, and I'm a little edgey about who framed Roger Rabbit. Cartoons are all well and fun but they don't sit well with me when they get so surreal and adult.

Apparently that seems to be a pattern with a lot of Ralph Bakshi movies except maybe for the original 70's Lord of the Rings movie.

Seem to be right, turns out he's the guy who made "Fritz the Cat" as well and a special adult-only spin off of Ren and Stimpy.

Sure there's some folks who like his style but it's just not for me though I'll probably still get around to watching cool world for a while. I heard it was Brad Pitt's film debut and that makes it worth some merit to watch that idiot look confused and dumbfounded for the first time.

The last film I saw would be...Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows. 3/5.

It might grow on me, but there was just something about the first movie I liked better. The action scenes are excellent in this one though.

The last movie I saw would have to be Man Of Steel which I give a 7/10.

I loved all of the action throughout the entire movie. However, there was something that seemed a little bit off to me throughout the last part of the film. Also, something about the Lois Lane in this movie kind of disappointed me. To me, her characterization seemed a bit rushed.

My rating for this movie would be significantly closer to a full 10/10 if it wasn't for Lois. I mean, it was pretty cool to see Amy Adams play Lois, but the character development was not to my expectations.

She was sassy and spunky in the sense that it translates to "person who has no care for the authorities that are letting her do her job in the first place" as she's like that to anyone who ISN'T Clark Kent.

Not that I like a character that is that all the time. I agree the movie would've been much better without Lois Lane.

The Girl Who Leapt Thought Time gets an 8 out of 10 from me.

It was a nice movie and all, I couldn't stop watching it but two things about the movie bugged me.

Spoiler:
Honestly I wasn't convinced that Chiaki was secretly from the future, that just felt like a random plot twist they decided to add at the last minute. And why on earth did he go to the past just for a painting? The ending was a bit of a letdown for me as well.

The original 1995 Ghost in the Shell anime film by Mamoru Oshii. I'd give it four stars out of five.

This is my first experience with Ghost in the Shell, and I enjoyed it for the most part. The animation is gorgeous, and the acting is great; but I felt that it was way too short. Because of this, the overall film feels rushed; and it's pretty clear that's it's meant to only be the beginning of the entire series. Still, I liked it's message and the themes it had; so I'll probably check out the sequel and TV series.

I think Cat's ultra-critical nature is rubbing off on you XD

Spoiler:
It was a bit of a random plot twist but the plot is sort of random, that was part of the charm for me. Just a slice of life anime with time travel, no sci-fi setting or warning but it really worked. Reminded me of the old show Bernard's Watch except with more dire consequences. Besides that's exactly how it would seem for a time-traveller, most time-travel things typically involve the main-character as the primary time traveller and venturing to other time zones. This film just starts off as the viewpoint of the people in a normal time-zone instead of a sci-fi setting so it seems perfectly normal. A time-traveller would try an conceal their presence so it makes a lot of sense for him to just want to blend in. As for no real reason for him to see the painting? Based on the fact the girl went onto preserve art I'd guess it was just destroyed. As for why it seemed so dire at the end I'd guess it's more because he was forced to leave than because he'd never see the painting.

Well, the sequel's the only Ghost in the Shell taking part in the same continuity as the film, the series is a seperate continuity, and the manga's a seperate continuity too. Personally, while I really do like the film, Stand Alone Complex I think is far superior.

Oh, and regarding Girl Who Leapt Through Time:

Spoiler:
Didn't think the guy being from the future was so out of left field, for the pure and simple reason that it's a world where time travel exists, and it's not just the main character that can do it. She's the neice of the main character from the original story too, which I think's a nice way to tie it in while still doing its own thing.
And as for going back in time for a painting, hey, I'd go see the Sistine Chapel getting painted, even though I've been there in the modern day. Just eccentricities of time travellers, wanting to see everything in an older time.

The ending is random and comes out of nowhere, how can it be 'cliche'?

Besides everything is cliche these days, tvtropes.org kinda indicates most things in media are recognisable catergorised and easily identifiable.
The Girl who leapt through time is an ok film for cliches you could do a lot worse.

End of the day you gave this film an 8/10 XD why be so negative when it was an enjoyable experience.

You assume I've tried to anger you before :P

You said that plot twist felt thrown in and pointless, it came out of nowhere and I assumed that was what bothered you about the ending. As aside from that and her declaration to preserve art as a career I don't recall there being anything else of note to call 'an ending'.

I just rather enjoyed that film :garyuu:

Relax Emiko I'm just curious.

I'd assumed the plot twist and career decision was the be all and end all of the ending but if you were ok with that stuff I'm just wondering what else was disappointing.

I don't think I'm being overly aggressive just wanted to know what was up tis all. :yuusaku:

XP He can see what I wrote Emiko.
I was just wondering but nevermind lets just drop it.

I watched Doom the other night after a friend said it was the only good game-film translation. It seemed....ok...I was kinda hoping they'd go the whole 'Hell' route (because it's so silly it's funny) but it went for a very sci-fi route with archaeological digs uncovering horrible nasties that make zombies. I just feel the 'Hell' route would have given it more personality since otherwise it's your pretty standard space-marine/alien action horror flick.

It gets +1 points for having The Rock in it in a pretty decent role, he starts off as a decent character but spoilers spoilers character development spoiler spoilers which I wasn't really expecting in this.

End of the day I think me and my friend judge good films based on games differently. He seemed to make a big deal about how it has a scene which is shot and done like the original game in first person. Which I'd say is a neat throwback but I wouldn't judge game movies based on how much they literally and mechanically resemble the source material. I'm more a fan of how the concepts are worked, like I think Prince of Persia was a great movie but he says it was mediocre at best but eh.

6/10.

I know right! I told him Phoenix Wright made an awesome to movie transition. When I saw the screening at Scotland Loves Anime my group had a friend who hadn't played the AA games at all though he knew of them. He said he expected a bad game movie and not a genuinely good film so I guess it's proof it is marketable to a wider audience to an extent or at least is worthy of standing on it's own two feet.

However the pal who said Doom was good hasn't so much as glanced at Phoenix Wright with passing interest to my knowledge. So I'm hardly about to force him to watch the over 2 hour flick on youtube. Plus while I don't have a problem with it, it's in Japanese, some people might not care for watching things with subtitles lunacy as it may seem. I just think it's too niche for me to tell a friend who's not even interested in it to watch it.

The Japanese undoubtedly make the best video game movies. That's probably because they understand and respect the source materiel a whole lot more than Hollywood does. You would NEVER see them trying to adapt a very niche and practically unmarketable video game series like Ace Attorney into a movie. Takashi Miike is a great film maker, and he understands Ace Attorney; so that's why the movie turned out well.

I find it really sad that in today's world; the youth cannot do something as simple as watching a film in a different language with subtitles. Foreign films are some of the best pictures out there right now, especially when compared to 95% of the crap Hollywood dishes out.

There's also the Professor Layton movie which has an excellent English dub, though it's anime. If you don't like anime, even serious anime, I'm not sure if the casual viewer would like this film.

Sure it's English dub is good but that film has so many plotholes and things that don't make sense that it infuriates/delights me.

Still perhaps I'm underestimating his tolerance, maybe he will go for a film with Japanese subtitles with a little nudge. I'll try it if I catch him in a good mood.

It's Professor Layton, of course the plot's going to be out there. I think the animation and music are both beautiful, with the overall story having some pretty good themes. Speaking of the dub, it's probably one of the best one's in the last few years. It's exactly the same as the games!

I'm wondering if Miike will ever direct a sequel to Ace Attorney. It'd be interesting to see other characters like Godot on the big screen!

Yes the production values were great for that film and some of the callbacks to the game were delightful like a voice announcing "Puzzle Zero Zero One".

I think a sequel is too much to hope for, my heart might burst at the thought, though he does have the material. Shame they couldn't do Justice For all though since they kinda showed the climactic case from that one in the credits of the film.

I don't see why not. The movie was mostly successful with critics and at the Japanese box office. The post-credits scene at the end of the movie could possibly be a "trailer" of sorts for the sequel.

I'm more interested in seeing an anime adaption of Phoenix Wright. Given the art style and story of the games; I can't believe that hasn't happened yet.

Happened in my dreams once though yeah it's pretty prime for something like that though I don't know if Court Dramas as a televised product go down as well in Japan as they do in America.

If that ever happened, it wouldn't be televised probably. Most anime see profit through home video sales. Something like Steins;Gate wasn't televised, yet it was pretty popular.
