At the bottom of the official Japanese site here, it says that the game will be also available to download on the same day. Same price though, at 5,990 yen.

So the earlier assumption that there won't be a Japanese e-Shop release is false.

Yup. This popped up a week or two back, then they removed it, but it's been officially confirmed by Capcom now.

Since we haven't really gotten the price for AA:DD here outside of Japan, makes me wonder how the price would be affected if there was a physical release.

I doubt they will make it any cheaper than usual if we do get a physical version as well as a downloadable one. I actually was kind of hoping for a reduced price for a download only AA5, but this is fine too. Honestly, I'm still going to get the game anyway.

im sure the price for physical release here will most likely be the same as any 3DS here $39.99 and hopefully it will be cheaper for the digital release

Sven had stated that they had a "method for their madness" and that "pricing...would be at a negative [would be affected] if the release went Physical".

So my guess is if DD stays digital only it will be $29.99

If DD has a physical release both the physical copy and the digital copy will be $39.99
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

Is the price of a 3DS game in japan always that steep? If I'm not mistaken, GS5 should be about $60.

Yeah, things like video games are more expensive in Japan. That's one of the reasons why imports from Japan are more expensive.

DVDs/BDs even moreso, but renting is big in Japan.

Sven also left the company today, so I'm starting to get worried. :lana:

There were layoffs and Sven volunteered to be let go.

Well i imagine what would happen in EU/AU/UK would be the same as what went down with Code of Princess, that was £27.99, not sure about the Euro pricing though, but that way i would see this being a feasible seller. Plus they better put it up at midnight, none of this "oh no you can wait until 3pm" rubbish

About what exactly? Is is whether or not this game will be released, the fate of a Western physical release, of the future of the series in the West?

I think Underqwertyuiop was talking about reasons 2 and 3. We know DD is coming, and to be honest probably to most of us (including me) the physical release is a great-if-its-happening-no-big-deal-if-its-not thing. The main thing I'm worried about is the future of the series in the west, and without Sven there to keep us informed and to be constantly pushing we'll be in the dark about Capcom's decisions and there may be less of a voice for AA. We don't know at this point.
