Oh and one more thing, the text box only can fit two lines now. (It was 3 lines in the previous games.) Is that because of how the 3DS's screen is wider than the DS?

I'm sure that's the image compression (probably JPEG) showing, and it's notoriously bad on red stuff. You see that kind of poor compression all over the place on eShop screenshots.

I'm guessing that the width of the screen is the reason why they stuck with two lines. DS AA games were two lines in Japanese and three lines in English because the lower resolution and less wide screen would have made it much harder to fit things on just two lines. Of course, the disadvantage to having more lines of text is obscuring the visuals. For example, if they made the text three lines, Phoenix's hand tapping the evidence paper would be mostly obscured.

Yes, that's what it is. If you look closely the whole image suffers from the compression. (It's a little easier to notice if you turn on 3D, which won't make the image 3D but will reveal the image's issues a little more).

Another thing to notice is that the text font is bigger, too. I'm replaying the old games on my 3DS XL and that text from the GS5 screens is like twice as big as how the original games' text looks. One thing is that playing the older games on the bigger screen means it's harder to look a both the text and the sprites simultaneously, so keeping in mind how popular the 3DS XL is they might have made the text bigger in part to make it easier to jump between text and animation (since you can still read the bigger text when you're focused on the characters).

Nope that usually takes a bit of time to be updated.

I really hope we get a DLC release date soon!

Extra Case. I'm hoping to play the Extra Case where it fits chronologically (between cases 2 and 3).

We're not getting the quiz one in the west.

As far as we know, all DLC is coming except the quiz, but the costumes that you'd get from the quiz will be available somehow. We just don't know when the DLC is coming, how much the DLC will cost, or how the quiz costumes will be available.

Heads up: there's a Nintendo Direct tomorrow for both 3DS and Wii U at 7am PST / 10am EST. Maybe we'll get some real advertising for DD this time?

I have a question as a newcomer to Nintendo Directs (I only started watching them when there were rumors of GS news).

In the 2 or 3 I've seen, I've never seen a third party game not published by Nintendo given a "spotlight" - as in, a specific point where someone will say "Now, from Capcom, is the next game in the Phoenix Wright saga. Take a look." I've always seen Third-party games get relegated to those mash-ups of "third party games coming to Wii U" or "eShop games". Is it even possible for Dual Destinies to get it's own "section" where something like a trailer could be shown off?

Anyway, even if that doesn't happen I fully expect it to show up somehow. I'm just hoping we somehow get news on the DLC release date.

At the very least, I'd hope they'd show some gameplay or cutscene footage in the third-party montages they always have. I don't expect to see a section of the Direct dedicated to DD, but that would be very nice. Perhaps they could post a full trailer in the eShop afterwards, though that won't get so much attention.

I know they did in Japan (they also did a Gyakuten and Monster Hunter direct as well) but I don't think they did in America. I'll check.

EDIT: Ok, I don't have time to go back and watch every Nintendo Direct, but from me clicking around a bit and based on the trailer links provided at the bottom of the screen, no third party games seem to have been given the time/presentation that we all want for GS5 (All of the games shown like that which aren't developed by Nintendo are published by Nintendo).

So now that the ADA McCoy's Center for Quick, Not Very Accurate Research Into Nintendo Directs has found it's findings, we have published a theory on what will arrive tomorrow:

Dual Destinies WILL be mentioned and previously-seen clips/trailers will be seen.
A New trailer and new gameplay WILL NOT be seen.
The total coverage for DD will not exceed 20 seconds.
This will be the last bit of advertising we see for DD.

Kind of a bummer, but oh well. Maybe they'll find a way to sneak in the DLC release date, although I'll doubt they'll get that specific.

In Japan only, yes. But that was an entire Nintendo Direct, and I'm sure it cost a pretty penny to do that. There's no way Ace Attorney could hold a full Nintendo Direct since it depends on the story more than the gameplay, so there wouldn't be enough content to talk about for 30 minutes that isn't spoiler territory.

There hasn't been a full third party Nintendo Direct in NA or EU territories to my knowledge.

Yeah, in face, from what I've seen, 3rd party games don't even get any real attention devoted to them. They're all thrown into one category and you only see each one for a couple seconds.

Proving once again that AAA games will rule the world of gaming, while the followers of the third party and indie game fight in terminator style resistance. The future looks bleak.

The only thing that makes me not panicked yet is Capcom themselves. They obviously know about the bad reaction regarding Digital Download and they must know that doing no advertising means that there will be a small audience, so hopefully they took that into consideration and GS5 will do well even without a bunch of new fans.

True. However, I think we all know that Capcom is falling into the AAA games hole too, as evident by the costumes. We all realize they are all nothing but a gimmick to make money, and the fact that they are bringing them over here, proves to me that Capcom, while still trying to go the PS4 route in making people like them because they're not jerks, they still are like hookers; they don't like you, they like your money. Going into something i've been saying for a long time, I don't mind giving them money, just as long as i am certain I spent it on something i will enjoy.

Personally, the DLC costumes don't do anything for me, as I would never use them. (The DLC case is what I'm excited for). However, I know that a lot of people actually do really like them, for various reasons. So actually Capcom's DLC policy doesn't bother me that much.

The thing I'm most concerned about is if GS6 will come over here, and if the only way they can do it is case-by-case digital DLC or something I'm fine with that.

I just hope Capcom realizes that the audience for GS is not going to be big, so hopefully they've made sales predictions that they can actually get in the long run.

I think it just come down to the fact that GS isn't as big over here as it is in Japan, and probably never will (just look at how fast games like GTA and COD sell and you'll see what i mean). It just seem that people are more interested it "immersion" and "how many people can i kill" then good story (though they will tell you otherwise). Games like GS have no place in the vast market of gamers. You have no idea how many people i tell about GS and they ask "what's that?" and i show them, and they LOVE it. So it's not that people won't play it, they will, and they would play it in doves, its just that people play what is popular, and quite frankly, GS is not. This is partly Nintendo's fault as they don't advertise, which goes back to the point most talked about as of late: Nintendo needs to advertise this game.

That describes the entire visual novel, and to an extent JRPG market, in general.

Nintendo has no obligation to advertise third party titles. I don't recall Sony or Microsoft doing such a thing either.

For sure, Nintendo has said that they're more open to helping third parties several months ago, and I'm sure they're still doing that. But I would be very surprised if, say, they let third parties advertise on Nintendo Direct for free. I wouldn't expect that being in a montage would cost that much, but it'd be something.

So don't blame Nintendo for the marketing, blame the publisher: Capcom.

Otherwise, yeah, games that focus more on good story are less popular than action-packed games. It's not a bad thing that action-packed games exist (and some even have a good story lately), but the imbalance in popularity is the real sad part.

It's all about marketing strategies that capcom needs to improve on with Promoting the GS Series. In my opinion Capcom's PR department needs a serious overhaul.

No. I bought a pre-paid Nintendo 3DS eShop card at a retailer for $35. Then I don't have to put in my credit card number on the online eShop store.
