I am really looking forward to this game if it gets released any time soon.
I'm going to use a trilogy engine, since creating a DD-style engine will be nigh impossible. There will be 5 cases, and I'm going to need a character and background artist (since I'm horrible at creating art myself.) The only DD OST I will be using are Apollo's "Objection!" theme, the Logic Trinity track, and the rest of the music will be made using the AAI soundfont.

Will this game be in Pywright, AAO, PwLib, or something new? I think that's what BonnyMono meant when he asked about the engine. There's a lot of pre-made sprites that people have made both here and on AAO for the specific purpose of helping people who need characters. If you're having trouble making your own, I would recommend looking through those, because it can be a real pain to convince people to make them for you (especially if this is your first case). Alternately, you can go to Deviantart and there's people there who will make stuff for you (for a price). Custom art can really halt the production of a case if you don't want to make it on your own.

More seriously, you ought to rethink the project if that's what you're basing the premise on. If you expect it to follow the official canon, you're putting a lot more limits on what you can work with that is appropriate and fitting. First off, it's risky to throw in original characters to replace the roles of those that are already in place. Besides, you'd have to think about what the official characters that have mandatory attendance are up to in the meantime. Second, you should follow the lead-in given near the end of DD, though it's up to you to interpret what Edgeworth meant. If for some reason that plot has been dealt with off-screen, then explain how and why it was settled that way. Third (and this is my personal opinion), it may be easier to answer questions left behind from Apollo's game. You don't only want context from the previous game, but also the one that precedes it; as how a sequel should be.
If not, then I suggest taking a different direction and not basing your game on GS6. You can still set the timeline after DD and it'd just be an independent scenario. (By the way, the custom sprites aren't only limited to new characters and backgrounds. There should be new ones for returning characters as well. Besides, DD has an entirely new style of courtroom. That's a lot of work.)

Reading people's comments about the way to tackle this project, if you're willing to put in the time and effort to custom music and art/backgrounds, then by all means, every attention to detail makes it seem more authentic. Of course, looking at request threads, and asking spriters permission to use their sprites (Maybe Rajin, who's made a whole sprite sheet of Athena sprites.) Also, backgrounds could take a long time if they were to look official. I'd guess sticking to the pre-existing backgrounds, and any help along the way with custom backgrounds can always be added, replacing the placeholders.

Will this game be in Pywright, AAO, PwLib, or something new? I think that's what BonnyMono meant when he asked about the engine. There's a lot of pre-made sprites that people have made both here and on AAO for the specific purpose of helping people who need characters. If you're having trouble making your own, I would recommend looking through those, because it can be a real pain to convince people to make them for you (especially if this is your first case). Alternately, you can go to Deviantart and there's people there who will make stuff for you (for a price). Custom art can really halt the production of a case if you don't want to make it on your own.
