Well obviously it's better than the anime. The visual novels will ALWAYS be better than their adaptions, though the Steins;Gate anime was pretty damn good and close to the original story. I like Higurashi anime, but the first episode isn't all that good and the animation is mostly lacking. Still, from the second episode onwards it does get better. One problem that most people will probably have is the confusing nature of the story, regardless if you're looking at the visual novel or anime. You kind of have to do outside research to understand that the story "resetting" itself and the structure of the narrative is meant to encompass "Question" and "Answer" arcs. I'm nearing the end of the sixth one so I can't wait to see how they eventually explain everything.

You're right, the original is nearly always better. Visual novel or not.

When I first watched the anime, I started at around episode 8, so I was thoroughly confused. The story re-starting itself I was able to work out. It was the actual story that confused me, there was so much going on, I couldn't get a grasp on what was happening. I just went with the flow, I suppose. Still, I went back and watched the episodes I missed after I had finished, but nothing made sense until I looked it up online. Fortunately, I forgot everything I read that time, so finding out the answers is still like finding them out for the first time.

Watching the 1st episode of the english dub of Pokemon Origins. The dub's pretty good and (unlike the anime) the ova sticks close to the logic of the game (type advantages taken into consideration, explains a few things like a gym leaders PKMN count and such).

I just finished watching the Professor Layton movie. It had been awhile since I saw it last, but I recently found my DVD copy of it in storage. Overall, it was a touching and beautifully done film that proves that video game movies CAN be good. The ending in particular hit all the right emotional notes and the orchestral score is breathtaking. Highly recommended.

One thing that I did really like was how the film approached death. Most films try to bring in vague concepts such as the soul or an afterlife, but Professor Layton presents everything in a very realistic and materialistic way. I was really surprised how mature it was to handling the subject. It really does reflect the Japanese mentality on everything compared to our more narrow-minded Western views.

I'm sure that it's good, but there's no way that all 450+ episodes can stay constant without decreasing in quality even slightly. Cowboy Bebop only has 26 episodes, and each one is nothing short of a masterpiece. I honestly think that this is as close to perfection as you can get with anime.

I read that the quality of the animation did suffer during certain parts of the anime, but also heavily improved during the later arcs, I think it was. And I think the Anime still has filler for One Piece... although I have to say, why bother making filler for a manga that has about 800 Chapters right now? And Oda says he's still not close to the end of it... long running series are nice but some of them really need to just finish already...

its actually 728 chapters right now and even though its been long running the story is still amazing and im sure Oda has many awesome idea's which is why he wont end it just yet and plus even if he did Shonen Jump would lose a giant part of there money income since OP is the top big 3 and naruto is ending and bleach declined alot. So one piece can't end just yet for many reasons and it still goes strong even if its still long running which makes it one of the anime legends. :grossberg: Also about the fillers, One Piece has actually barely any fillers except for in the beginning of the series run with only a very few episodes but besides that there arn't fillers but continuing the story.

Ugh... just let it die already. I'm a fan of Detective Conan, which is about 850 Chapters right now, and even I am saying, "By God, Aoyama, just explode the Black Men already and finish it! How many times more do we have to see shocked faces at locked-room-murders or read how you came up with these extremely-hard-to-physically-pull-off murder schemes."

PS: I say the One Piece is a literal piece of paper by Gold D Roger, saying that all the experience collected up until that point are the "real treasure". Because from what I have read and thought of of Roger, I think he'd be that kind of person to do that.

ONE PIECE will never die!! it will always live forever :grossberg: :grossberg: :grossberg: trust me there are even longer running manga's out there that are still popular and still going strong like for example there is one of the most longest running manga ever in Japan that no other manga can ever catch up and its called "This is the Police Station in front of Kameari Park in Katsushika Ward" and its 1700+ chapters long and its still very popular in Japan.

PSS: Actually you're not a bit off mark but I believe that the treasure is what Roger learned about The History of the World that is not known to anyone and probally all the treasure he had collected in his voyage.

KochiKame is something completely different from a story-based series like One Piece though. It's more like a sitcom, and it manages to be so long and popular becauses it basically keeps 'sliding' along with times, with Ryotsu following every new fad etc (c.f. The Simpsons).

I know its completely different. I was just using it to make a point that even if a manga is long running doesnt mean it can get old and in need to "end it" as Catmuto puts it.

I'm not sure whether to start watching Kuroshitsuji next or Umineko no naku koro ni.

My friend keeps raving about Kuroshitsuji and how she's obsessed with Sebastian, so I feel like I want to know what the hype is about. I enjoyed Higurashi, but I'm not sure how similar Umineko is to it. I'd like it to have the same horror elements Higurashi has.

Oh my God, Kuroshitsuji is so awesome and Sebastian is so hawt and cool and amazing and sadistic and looks awesome and oh my god, why do we never see him naked, and Ciel is absolutely adorable and the corset always makes me laugh, and it's just so tihihihihihi~

I'm guessing she's sounding like that? :gant:

I don't know about Umineko, so I can't comment on that. And while I haven't watched Kuroshitsuji, I do think it's worth a watch. The animation I have seen from the 2nd OVA seems great, so it'll be a nice thing to look at. Can't say much about the music, I don't think I paid much attention to what I have seen of the anime as of yet...

What I would like to point out with "problems" of the Kuroshitsuji anime is that it takes a very different route from the manga, with only a handful of the first few episodes actually being like the manga, but then different storylines are told. And what I have seen of the 2nd Season, I wonder why they made it... Oh right. Money.
Another small thing that bothers me is... well, Sebastian looks hot in the anime. But somehow, I feel like the manga Sebastian had a bit more charisma to him, like he looks special and all. And anime Sebastian just looks like any other goodlooking guy.

But from what I have heard from my husband, who has checked out some of the Anime scenes in English dub, we'd suggest going for Japanese with English Subs. Cause I forget her name, who voices Ciel in English, did apparently a... not so good job at the infamous Corset scene.

I don't think you can compare those two. As Ash pointed out, that KochiKame thing is more like a sitcom - similar to Seinfeld that has no really big overarching plot or goal to work towards, it's more of an every day life kind of thing, which makes the long running more tolerable and not obnoxious since, without a real goal, you don't feel like they're wasting their time.

One Piece and Conan are manga/anime with their respective goals they have to work to get to. And after about 400 Episodes (or however many One Piece has right now) or 800 Chapters (like Conan) you are way beyond the point of being able to tolerate the long running of it.
You want them to get to that goal, to finally finish things and get on with their lives. Taking that long just makes you wonder why they took so freaking long to even get to that point, which is probably not even close to their original goal! It's like they're being distracted by stuff on the side that serves no real purpose anymore. (Luffy's goal was the One Piece... guess it still is, but now we have this 2nd age of the Pirates or whatever, that Whitebeard or Blackbeard thing, that character dying and then this other character, who was never mentioned before, being suddenly made important... I stopped watching the anime after Eneru or on that tropical island and even I sort of forgot by that point what the point of the anime was)

The first half of One piece is basically luffy on his adventure to find "One Piece" and the first half of the show is how luffy begins to meet each of his crew mate that he has now then from then on its all about now the crew entering the New World after 2 years of being apart from each other but you would have known that if you actually continued to watch it then you would understand the story and not be quick to judge just because you feel its too long. A true fan has to have dedication to the story especially how immerse the world of One Piece is. Yes its long but you must take you time with it to fully understand the story at hand.

Just because I stopped reading the manga doesn't mean I don't know anything about it. I have read online what happens afterwards and it still feels too long for me. Also, what does the following have to do with meeting up with his crew?

Spoiler:
That whole thing with Robin giving herself up to the World Dominators or whatever they were called. Ace's death. Whitebeard's death (or was it Blackbeard? I think it was Whitebeard and his Devil Fruit being "reborn" and eaten by Blackbeard) I was gonna put in Franky and Brooke, too, but those are part of the crew... I know there's more but it's late and my brain is going mush, but still.

All that stuff seemed to take too long. What was the point of the Eneru arc? If those parts were so vastly important, why didn't he cut things from the previous parts that were a bit less important to get there sooner, not giving us Arc Fatigue several times? I loved the Alabasta Arc, I liked Vivi and the outfits they wore, but I think even that ran too long.

well you were talking about the anime so i was saying that in anime sense since you never said you were still reading the manga.

Spoiler:
For Robin she gave herself up because she didn't want the strawhats to suffer from the Buster call which traumatized her as a child when it destroyed her hometown island. Ace died protecting luffy and whitebeard died because of the injuries he sustained during battle while Blackbeard delivered the final blow like the coward he is in which he then used his devil fruit to steal Whitebeard's Quake powers since it is explained Blackbeard has a very unique body which is why he can have two devil fruit powers. Franky was put because a crew needs a shipwright in order to keep the ship in order and fix and modify it if anything which he does throughout the story to where it is now and Brook is the Musician/Swordsman that luffy wanted to be in his crew when his ship was crossing get to the new world he got stuck in what was basically the "Bermuda Triangle". You basically have to read it better in order to understand everything.

The Eneru arc was also important because
Spoiler:
If you understood it carefully it was a introduction of the Polygraphs which is another important theme in One Piece because it tells the true history of the world and also it was in order to find the great treasure in the sky that was told in the legend.
Alabasta is basically
Spoiler:
Robin's introduction and for other future scenes with Mr 2 and Mr 3 during Imperial Down and also most important Crocodile as one of the warlords.
You also got to take into the matter that one piece is also long because Oda at times would take long breaks due to fatigue and illness which is typical for the hard work it goes through being a Mangaka and also you gotta factor in the different holidays in Japan which give breaks to any manga series.

Usually I watch the Japanese language versions anyway, so that's no problem.

This may be unexpected, but I love watching Larry King Now on Hulu. Every day he interviews someone new; usually its someone of interest to me and it's always interesting to hear Larry King interview people. It's great for putting on when you have work to do and need something on in the background. I recommend it!
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

I love your avatar... it's my favorite scene...! Too bad they made a rip-off of it in the 2nd Season which wasn't that good...

Watched Family Guy for old times sake and... the show killed Brian off and replaced him.

Needless to say, I turned the tv off. :grey:

Hey Arnold was an amazing show. It had a good run, but it's a damn shame that they ended the series on a cliffhanger. Tons of fans are still wondering whatever happened to that football headed kid's parents.

At least the entire series is on DVD, though.

I'm not sure whether to start watching Kuroshitsuji next or Umineko no naku koro ni.

I think I'll watch Kuroshitsuji, I need to know what this Sebastian person is about.

Usually I watch the Japanese language versions anyway, so that's no problem.

Thank you for the reply.

I know this is a bit late, but I can comment about Umineko. If you're going to experience it, read the VN. So much better than that... anime. (Seriously, the anime gimps the VN completely. If you experience Umi, read the VN. Dat music <3. And if you do read the VN, get the PS3 sprites. Because... The original sprites are pretty ugly.)

Meanwhile, I just re-watched "The Hunt for Red October". Jeez, it's still a great movie.
