You missed out Arceus for new Pokemon. (At least, I'm pretty sure Arceus didn't appear in Brawl...)

Also missed out on the fact that bosses will appear on certain stages. (Like the Yellow thingymajiggy from Mega Man, and presumably Ridley, judging by the shadows).

I am getting really excited for this game. The Greninja announcement came out of left field but it looks amazing. I was really hoping for Blazekin, though....
Everything just looks incredible for this game except for a few details about the Wii U version, specifically, release date and game modes.
Also, I'm still expecting Wario, Ness, and Cap'n Falcon to join the fight. Perhaps Jigglypuff and Mr. Game and Watch will find their way in too. For new challengers, I would wager Chrom from Fire Emblem and Ghirahim. If not Ghirahim, then back to Ganondorf.

One last thing... are we gonna get a name for this game? Melee, Brawl, and... Super Smash Bros. 4?

Just when you think there can't be any more new details, the press-release screenshots prove us wrong.

A bunch of new items, pokemon, assist trophies (even the Bandai/Namco-owned Galaga enemies are here, too.) and returning things are also here.

Random thoughts nobody cares about no jutsu!

Can't say I'm too excited about Charizard and Greninja since that most likely means Mewtwo won't be in this game. Besides, we had Charizard AND Squirtle/Ivysaur in Brawl, and almost everyone has a Greninja on their team in X and Y.

Little Mac's uselessness in air is an interesting addition. He's turning out to be quite the unique character, which is a feat for a boxer.

So they made Samus even sexier and gave her high heels? Was that necessary, especially after Other M? Oh well.

Items, maps and music all seem nice though! It seems like they're also doing a great job of balancing things, and I absolutely love Lucario's increased aura strength.

I have no doubt more characters will be added soon (especially since we haven't seen a new character from Fire Emblem: Awakening which was a huge hit, but we've seen a trophy of a character from the game), and some may not even be talked about in order to keep it a secret until the game comes out, but I would have loved to see a buffed Ganondorf by now. Oh well, since they're balancing everything I guess they'll take a look at him too.

I don't think I'll ever get to stop explaining this; the name we have is the final name. It's something of a pun, as in Super Smash Bros. 4 Wii U/3DS. If you want shorthand for it, SSB4 or Smash 4 is more than appropriate.

That certainly makes up for not having a new POTD from Miiverse today. However...

Do we know how many characters we can expect? Unless I'm mistaken, 27 characters have been confirmed thus far, and there were 39 in Brawl if we count Shiek and Zero Suit Samus as separate characters, so there should definitely be room for both newcomers and veterans to join the fray.

There's no set limit as to how many characters there will be total, as far as we know. Hell, we probably won't find that out until after the 3DS version is released, since both versions of the game share the same roster.

Also, as of the recent Direct, 29 characters have been revealed so far, 23 veterans and 6 newcomers. I always update the first post in the thread with any reveals as soon as I see them, so an up-to-date list is readily available.

OK, ya'lls thoughts on Samus and Zero Suit Samus being separate characters. I personally don't like it. I don't know what you all thought but I liked characters that you could change mid-battle. Heck, one of my top 5 characters is Pokemon trainer; a character that is 3 characters in 1. Were people really complaining about this? I find it hard to believe that there was a majority vote that did not like this feature. I LOVED it!

(BTW, did anyone else want to sock the speaker when he teased us about Zero Suit Samus not being in the game)

I don't like it. Zelda/Sheik is one of my mains since Melee, so not being able to switch is just... but then, as long as my condition to get this game isn't fulfilled, I don't care anymore. I'll just rebuy Melee.

Nah I'm glad of it.
I never really used Zero Suit Samus cause it was dependent on me getting the smash ball (or remembering that fancy code but I like to play random anyway) so she didn't come up enough. Diversifying her to make her a character in her own right will be fine with me.

In general. It looks like she's wearing a fusion of heeled boots and basketball shoes with neon yellow highlights. They just look clunky and don't match the aesthetics of her suit at all.

Clunky is good, giant clubs are clunky, it gives the impression of "Bloody hell could break a building with those shoes" they were wanting to make her pack more of a punch and that definitely gives off the impression she will.

But it doesn't work when the rest of her outfit is a sleek, form-fitting bodysuit. I'm not talking about combat potential, I'm talking about appearance; you can't just slap any old accessories on an outfit and make it look good.

I know I'd never be caught dead in shoes like those.

From what I've been reading around the internet, a lot of people seem to like the change because it removes the several seconds of immunity the transformations offered - people would abuse/spam these to avoid getting hit by final smashes and stage hazards. There are also several who prefer to play as single characters and hated accidently transforming because they'd have to waste time transforming back. This was problematic for Samus in particular, because you'd either have to let your opponent have the smash ball or be forced to take the transformation.

Admittedly I wasn't a fan at first either, but they've grown on me. It's kind of refreshing that they added some flair to the zero suit, otherwise it just kind of looked like she was wearing space-themed pajamas. Plus, they do match well with her blaster.

I find Zero suit's model in this game to be way more atractive than how it was in Brawl. In brawl it was kind of creepy.

Pfft but she's prepared for combat potential. Her outfit in Brawl would be a last resort, a result of her real armour facing destruction.

Now she's kitted out and more prepared to fight unarmoured.

That's not too far off from what the Zero Suit is, though. It's just clothing Samus wears so she's not totally naked under her metal armor, it's not really supposed to be flashy.

Meh. Maybe if she had a belt or something to bring it all together; as of now, with the boots and wristbands her torso looks kind of...empty.

I'll be "that guy" and say that the transformations never gave multiple seconds of immunity in Melee. There, you transformed within 1 - 2 seconds and done.

Rocket boots made of solid PAIN.

Also her outfit is slightly more padded around the shoulders. Gives her more of a 'battle-ready' impression than a 'whoops did all my armour come off :april:" impression.

While I do agree that the heels are a silly drawback of adopting the Other M design, at least they're trying to make use of it to make it less so.

(That said, what's the point of adding a beauty mark? Honestly, that's the more questionable design choice here.)

I had read somewhere before that the beauty mark was actually a thing for Samus since the SNES days, but it was never implemented until other M. Before that, many fans were speculating where it might be.

Anyone remember this POTD from last month?

Image

Looks like it's definitely from Tomodachi Collection: New Life, which just got announced by Nintendo for a US/EU release on June 6th under the title Tomodachi Life. So, stealth hint or cross promotion?

Franzise Deauxnim wrote:

If anything it seems her Zero Suit might be more of a back-up in case of a Power Suit failure. She mentions something along those lines in Other M, though I don't remember the quote word-for-word. And flashy or not, she can still use it for combat in rough spots, so it has to be more pragmatic than anything. So what if it has a little flashiness to it as long as she can kick ass with it?

By the way, I didn't notice this from the other pictures, but it looks like they added bracelets to the Zero Suit redesign that matches the boots.

Image

That's not to say it completely validates the design of the boots, but at least it's elsewhere on her than just her feet.

I remember reading something about Nintendo's policy regarding their characters. Apparently characters have to be portrayed in their most recent character design for some reason. I think I read it on a figure site somewhere since it explained the reason why Link and Samus got figmas of their Skyward Sword and Other M appearances respectively.
ImageImage Image
If that's really how it works over there, then I can't really blame Sakurai for trying to make the heels somewhat viable :ron:

Yeah I think some of you guys missed the point I was trying to make or maybe I wasn't clear enough so let me try again.

When it comes to a character's costume design, you can go with form, function, or if you're lucky, both. Giving Samus stiletto heels would obviously be leaning more towards option number 1 since wearing shoes like that into battle just isn't practical (and I'm perfectly fine with that, it's certainly not the first time a female character's been given a sexualized outfit, nor is it anywhere near the most extreme example.) However, when said heels are ugly-ass neon yellow...things, it kind of takes away from the point of making her wear heels like that in the first place. If they aren't attractive and it doesn't make logical sense for Samus to be wearing something like that into a combat situation, it doesn't meet either of the criteria I mentioned and so is (in my opinion, anyway) a poor design choice.

Make sense?

Err..no I'd say they are designed more for function...they are rocket boots, they look heavier so they would have a real clout if you kicked someone with them, they don't look like fashionable high-heels at all clearly not intended for form.

Plus I've seen Raiden wield his sword between high heels so I don't put anything past stiletto's anymore.

You thought you could be safe in your courts, with your laws and attorneys to protect you. In this world only I am law, my word is fact, my power is absolute.

They could make Samus wear flip-flops and stick rockets on those.

Doesn't mean they wouldn't look bad.

And Raiden's boots don't clash with the rest of his outfit.

And he's probably a robot or something, I haven't played Revengence.
