To begin,
Megaman. Alright Capcom, we get it, you think we want new, innovative experiences. Okay. That's nice, can we please actually get a game starring Megaman? Like, the original? Not X, not ZX, not EXE (come to think of it why so many Xes?), the original. You did it with Powered Up, that was bitchin'. Seriously, Capcom needs to do two things to get this series back on track:
- Make ZX Advent and Star Force like amazingly good. Come on, show us wrong about slapping our foreheads at another two new series. Show you can make good games still.
- Another CLASSIC Megaman game. Hell, a wii-make (shoot me) would work, even.
Sonic. Dot dot dot is all I can say. That and Rush Adventure (or whatever it's called) better not suck. Sonic's biggest thing right now is a possible spot in Brawl.
Opinions, other series with similar dilemmas, etc etc

[edit] StarFox just needs to die. It's an awful series. Nownow, I loved 64- but the others are mediocre (StarFox), crap (Adventures, Assualt) or decent but ruined by horrible controls (Command).

I loved the original SNES and N64 games, but ever since then they've taken it further and further away from what it was supposed to be: a space shooter. I don't want to run around outside my airship with a rocket launcher. I want to jump in my ship and blast asteroids. I didn't play the DS one, but I don't want to control my ship with a stylus, either.
Certain innovations work well, and some I just want to see die. Any StarFox game where you don't spend the vast majority piloting an Arwing (with fingers, not stylus) is such a waste.

I do not give a shit that David Sirlin is heading the SF2 HD remake. It's been almost TEN FUCKING YEARS since a new SF game. Yes, Third Strike is still doing well in arcades. Except that the arcade business in the US = DEAD. Please save my SF kthx.
King of Fighters
Oh look! We have an awesome momentum going in due to the cross-promotion we do with the Universal Fighting System CCG (third best selling CCG in the US - or at least, it's in the top 5, WoW must have outclassed it) - what are we going to do? Obviously NOT release the game every fan and their mothers has been wanting - KoFXI. Yes, there was the Sony shit. You'd think that with their experiences with Microsoft's laxer requirements (such as game must be in 3-D if you want to publish on Sony), they'd attempt a release over there.
It's fucking sad that the longest standing series of fighters are pretty much dead as far as new development is concerned (yes, King of Fighters XII is coming... but when?)

This is the exact opposite of star fox. This franchise needs a reinvention, and fast. I used to play yellow, and then silver after that. But, after it was essentially just the same thing, I stopped playing them. Recently I tried out diamond, and it felt exactly the same, except there were new pokemon and graphics updates. For shame.

My point is, when they did make a classic MM game, it was fantastic. I'm just saying they should take a hint and maybe make them a little more often. Maybe not every year like with the other series, but a bit more often, at least.

In Assault the walking scenes were pretty fun, but nothing compared to the space-shooting. Landmasters work basically the same as the Arwings, so whatever.
I just want a good working co-op mode for 1-4 players. And being able to shout "DO A BARREL ROLL!" with B if you're Peppy.

First game = Stephen King's fever dream. Awesome.
Second game = Great story, excellent presentation. Awesome.
Third game = Great graphics, main character different from others, introduces continuity, generally regarded as a bad idea. Good, but not awesome.
Fourth game = Originally wasn't a Silent Hill game, characters no one gives a rat about, doesn't take place in Silent Hill, graphically worse than SH2, only connection to the series is a character mentioned once in SH2 in a random piece of paper.

Hmm... I'd probably like that. As I said, the classic Mega Man is my favourite. But I just don't think it should happen TOO often, because MMC has been milked pretty much dry.

Oh god, I AGREE. At the very least Nintendo, give us some graphics that don't look like slightly bigger and more colourful NES sprites, and faster and flashier battles :|

7 and 8 were pretty crap, yeah.
Powered Up! was a remake, but it was a DAMN GOOD remake that might as well be a new game. Stage designs were remade, two new bosses, ten playable characters (!!) and Challenge Mode is definitely more than 20% of new content.

Get rid of the homing attack:
This is the major bane for me. There's no fun involved in combat when all I have to do is press jump twice to kill a robot. Why not just let Sonic jump normally onto a baddy, like he used to? Hell, let him attack enemies with karate for all I care. Just let us control how we want combat to work.
Multiple Paths:
Remember how in old Sonic games, you could find alternate routes toward the exit? Let's bring that back, eh? No more speed-strips or bumpers telling us where to go.
No more multiple story modes:
It was fun for a while, but having to play as several different characters, each with their own style of gameplay, (regardless of whether you like it or not) is getting old. We paid for a Sonic game, just let the characteres run like Sonic. No more sub-genres like shooting and fishing which we don't want.
Bring back the Special Stages:
What's the point of having the Chaos Emeralds if we're not going to work for them? Special Stages have always been one of the best parts of the 2-d Sonics, it would be great to see them again.
Bring Back playable Super Sonic:
And by playable, I mean you can use him in any level, not just for the super special awesome final boss fight.
Sort the plot out:
No more of these weird stories involving space stations, private armies, and interdimensional thingies please. Just a good old fashioned Eggman takes over the world plot will be fine.

SH4 The Room was the weakest point in the SH series (or the SH movie T_T), here is hoping they don't mess up SH:Origins on the PSP and Silent Hill 5.

I'm just using Lunar as an example to what happens when a good series makes a shit game. Dead+no chance for revival.
As we can see, as great as the original games are, new games don't own up to the expectations of the masses. >_> I doubt that ANY old series that we know and love will be saved. I doubt it. Because if it's not going strong today, it's gonna die.
I predict that within a few years any series that isn't going strong now will drop dead.

They need to get the fuck away from Namco/Bandai US. That's the only reason it's tanking. That and the total lack of advertising.
And the fact that if you've played a Tales of, you've played them all.

I liked the Legends games. Definitely. Great games. I liked the storylines too. (I beat MML1 and have been on the last are of MML2 forever. I just don't have the time to finish it. >_> That and my ps2 is packed somewhere)
Sonic can die. I don't care about Sonic. Tales of, though? I like that series. Even though a lot has been done, think about it. Very few Tales Of games are actually in english. So American and other english-speaking audiences have very few games out of this series. 3, I think. Phantasia, The Abyss, and Symphonia.
Now, I also don't see any reason to end a series just because it's "done enough". If Megaman had "done enough" after the first few NES games, things would suck. If Final Fantasy had ended after the 6th one (I say 6th because that allows the people of this theoretical world here to be free of all Cloud/Sephiroth yaoi fanfics.), what series would be sony's crutch? If Mario had "done enough" a while ago, we'd live in a sad, sad world.
I guess I'm saying that just because it seems that there's been all that could be done in a series doesn't mean it should end. I guarantee you that Mario will get into another sports-type game, and that Final Fantasy will continue on until AT LEAST number 16. Why? Because it makes sense.
Also: Yeah, Krupto, TotA was pretty good. Hell, even ToP on the GBA was likable.
But my problem with TotA is that when you get really late into the game it becomes all story and running around and the battle start to suck. That is when I lost interest and went back to playing Disgaea 2.

Lufia 1-3 were all awesome, Lufia 4 was a big let down though, and I don't think we'll ever see another Lufia game. Lunar as Chimp said was a great series that thanks to a shitty DS title is more or less dead.
Mario will never die, Final Fantasy will never die, Dragon Quest will never die, LoZ will never die, these series are so damn popular you slap any of those letters on a game it garuntees that the game will be a greatest hits/platinum/ w/e you want to call it 1 million units sold.
Mario Party is a series that needs to fix itself a bit, I mean the new one was fun and all, but what was the difference between MP1 and MP8 again other then better graphics <_< ? MP9 needs to give the series a quick blast of unique innovation or that series can sleep with the N64 fishes where it kinda belongs (really after MP1-3 did anyone care?).

Can we please not get a rehash (I'm looking at you Call of Duty 2) and I haven't played Call of Duty 3 but reviews tell me that it's more or less the same game as the previous two. Call of Duty was the first real WWII shooter I played (Medal of Honor can bite me) and it blew my socks off.

It's just that Call of Duty 2 was so much of a rehash of the original Call of Duty and failed to add all the cool features from United Offensive, like tanks and artillery strikes (patches and mods don't count) that it made my faith in the series die a little inside.
I wonder how CoD 3 is...I suppose I'll have to check it out eventually.

I do. Quite frankly, there's two reasons I don't play FPSes.
1) They're mostly the same...
2) ...or they're WWII shooters.

I do. Quite frankly, there's two reasons I don't play FPSes.
1) They're mostly the same...
2) ...or they're WWII shooters.
Check out portal for the PC, that games looks really sick
Also how can SF:A controls be complicated? Left stick moves your character, right stick moves your weapon, just like any other 3rd person shooter, did I miss something >_> ?

Still, I'm not worried about Mega Man. The only issue I see is, that Capcom should go back and fix stupidities (e.g., lack of play testing or wrong decissions); for instance, the annoying shortness of Mega Man X8, the annoying unfair hardness of Mega Man X6, the pretty wrecked Mega Man X7, a grafical update to the really solid X1-4 (a bit of minor errors fixed too, as well), release a Rockman.exe 4.5 equivilent in English (update it to have EVERYTHING the previous games had, and maybe even MORE), grafical upgrade for Mega Man Legends (which I've still yet to play)... Can be done, easily. All I'm worried about is Capcom as a whole. They broke off from Breath of Fire. That is a capital punishment in my mind. That series has gotten into a state of paralysis, and it needs a fresh jolt (as in, a sequel. Not contend-wise), unless it will be remembered in the future as The Potential That Failed. Start thinking more about creating a nice series of games, and less on how much money you make for it. That's my rule. *sips coffee*
(Oh, and I urge all video game makers to dig up the classics for potential revival. Rare gems, as for instance found in the obscue games thread, could need a swift hand. Not to mention a grafical overhaul.)

BoF1 was okay. BoF2 would have shone if it wasn't for the awesomely crappy translation. BoF3 was disappointing, IMHO. 4 was amazing indeed.
