Spoiler:
Hilarious as that would be XD I still think his voice would age into even something even older sounding (like I'm talking needing a voicebox or something). Only way I can see is that Dr Sigma used some other kind of alteration to his body to alter his voice to sound younger, but other characters might have thought that was weird and really we shouldn't need to grasp at so many straws like this, I mean this game tries to be really tight on it's plot, I'm surprised something so simple can go overlooked. ESPECIALLY when you hide the voice from the player purely for that reason.

Hey,

From a post on GAF, Uchikoshi spoke to 4 Gamer recently.

Translation:

When I looked up Ryouta Kosawa [an author he mentioned earlier in the interview] on Wikipedia, I saw he was born in 1973, just like me. In other words, we're both now entering our 40s, so this next year is going to be critical. Actually, it's a little ominous, but one's 40s are also called "fuwaku" [a Japanese term for one's 40s meaning, roughly, "being without misdirection/not being lost"], right? According to Confucius, these are the years when the bewilderments of one's heart vanish; in other words, once you get to be 40, you stop losing your way. I think there's still a lot of delusions and misdirections in my own heart, but even still, I want to keep charging forward in life without losing sight of where I'm going. Next year it seems I'll be facing a lot of new challenges. There's also a couple of games that'll be announced too, I think. One of them might even be a really unusual, deviant kind of game <laughs>. Please look forward to it!

So maybe ZE3 could be one of those games, or maybe its been put back for a bit, who knows?

So reckon they'll have an older middle-aged protagonist? Sigma and Junpei were both pretty young bucks.

Maybe the secret of this game is that Kyle is actually an old man. That totally would be a new and innovative twist.

Well, the extra ending kind of told us that we're going to play as Kyle's consciousness in Sigma's body. I don't know, it's just a theory of mine.

Anyway, at the beginning of the game, you see Sigma getting kidnapped by Akane. But, we later figured that Sigma was behind the AB project all along.

Why did Akane use the white smoke anyway?

Well, while Sigma was behind the AB project all along, he wouldn't have been at all if Akane didn't kidnap him and explain the situation... after forcing him to complete the AB game as well.

Akane used the white smoke to make Sigma think that he went straight from college to the AB game, when in reality his older self from the future jumped into his own younger body, displacing his younger self into the future. The white smoke masked this process, and maybe even made it easier for old Sigma to displace his younger self.

Pfft lets be fair now, these games seal up their plots very nicely for the most part. I don't want to rush that and result in an inferior experience.

Spoiler: massive
No, Sigma's consciousness literally traveled through time. One of the new things about the morphogenetic field that was introduced in this game was that you could use the field to move your consciousness through time. The purpose of the AB game was to not only teach Sigma how to jump through time (using the timeline game mechanic. META!), but to also keep his memories of alternate timelines that he experienced, which is harder. Having the ability to do this will apparently help him save the world by stopping the Mars simulation incident that released Radical-6 on the world.

Here is how things worked (to the best of what I remember; correct me if I'm wrong). After old Sigma failed to contain/stop the Mars project, he devised the AB game to teach his younger self how to jump through the morphogenetic field so he would have a chance at creating a new timeline where the Mars project was successfully contained/stopped. Akane, with her future-seeing powers, knew about it and set up a plan to kidnap some people for the game, such as Clover and Alice. However, young Sigma was not kidnapped in the same way. After being knocked out, old Sigma (who already knows how to jump) jumped into young Sigma's body while he was unconscious, displacing his younger self into his old body in the future. The AB game progressed as planned, and young Sigma didn't notice his old body immediately due to the stress of the game, the effects of Radical-6 disorienting him, and the lack of mirrors. Other people noticed his old body, of course (Phi giving him strange looks about ogling that poster, for example, which could be considered normal for some young guys, but an old man?), but didn't make direct mention of it because, well, who would point that out unless it was clear he didn't know?.

Anyway, in the true ending, after Sigma realizes the power to jump, old Akane kills him (but not really) to force him to jump back to his unconscious younger self. If you remember, accessing the morphogenetic field is easiest to do under stress and inspiration (which is why all the nonary games are made of danger and puzzles), so he needed a real jolt. When he jumped back, his older consciousness was displaced back to the future, which is shown in the ultra true ending. So then young Sigma is back in his young body in the past and has a talk with young Akane about what's next. His next step should be to try and stop that Mars project.

TL;DR: Sigma didn't forget 45 years of his life. His consciousness (and memories) traveled through time to his old body in the future, then back again at the end of the game.

Spoiler:
Personally, I think being disoriented by the Radical-6 and the whole situation would have been enough to distract him from his voice. Not to mention that sometimes I've woken up and things sound weird for a short time. I might not notice if that never goes away. Sort of like sometimes not noticing my ears are not fully open until I pop them.

As for glancing his face, if you remember, the only mirror in the entire game (in crew quarters) was frosted over specifically to avoid showing a clear reflection. They could have engineered the glass in other places to not show reflections as well. The water in the biodome area was a bit risky, but he didn't have to look straight down in to the water for the puzzles, so he wouldn't have noticed it there either. He did use it later during Luna's ending, of course, but he wanted to see his reflection then.

I'd say that the whole Akane being able to see the future thing (and who knows, maybe old Sigma can too) would make it possible to avoid any of these kinds of oversights in the game.

I've heard that argument for not recognising the voice before and I don't buy it. If I'm groggy in the morning and I speak I'm like "woah my throat is killing me, need a drink" I can attune to what's wrong in my voice straight away and I don't think it's such a big deal.

Maybe its a bit like what K said with his armour, maybe Akane made it so he wouldnt notice it?
On the other hand, he saw his hand bleeding ABT and went "WTF?!?" so I dont see why they couldnt have done a similar thing with his eye in Sigma's ending

The worst part about the eye is that it does literally nothing--it serves no purpose but to make it really difficult to believe that Sigma didn't realize he was actually old and whatnot.

Plot twist in ZE3: Sigma had actually realized what was going on in VLR, due to the robot eye.

Anyway, so I may have an explanation for what you're discussing here.

Spoiler: Hole gaem
As it appears, no one really pays attention to each-other. They wouldn't really care to just comment about Sigma's eyes. Not to mention, No one commented about the fact that Alice doesn't even wear a top.

How he didn't feel it, it's probably made that way so he doesn't get annoyed. (He probably payed no mind to it since it made it him see with both eyes clearly.)

His voice: Well, that one has several possibilities:
1: Your own voice sounds different to other people than to yourself.
2: Your voice hasn't changed. (Which probably isn't the case here so scratch that.)
3: He didn't even notice or bothered to make a note of it.

I love how this game gave out some hints that Sigma is old.
Example:
Dio: Get away from me you senile old fuck!
Phi: You're 22? You've must've taken some drugs to look like that.
Alice: It took you that long to write your report?
(Excuse the language, I am writing as I remember it.)

Oh, and one more thing...
I am surprised that Clover/Phi said something about Sigma's age when he said something perverted....

"Oh holy father, holy Brother, holy master... My sacred mission is at last complete. With these two hands, mankind is saved. I am your will made flesh. In your name, I give thanks."

Uh oh... apparently ZE3 is on indefinite hiatus because sales of the first two games in Japan aren't that great.

http://albertogore.tumblr.com/post/7656 ... ctures-and

Uchikoshi created a new Twitter account for tweeting in English yesterday, and he begins explaining the situation from his first tweet. https://twitter.com/Uchikoshi_Eng

It's clear that he wants to make ZE3. It's just that the managers don't want to greenlight it due to past sales figures. Sounds like he might work on something else if he can't find a way to greenlight it in another way, but if the next game is ultimately successful, the management may be more open to ZE3. He may also look at crowdfunding options, but who knows if anything will come of that.

I'll be sure to bring any further news from his Twitter account here.

That would be such a shame if the game doesnt get made, though its clear he wants to make it.
As for a kickstarter project, although that sounds a neat idea, doesnt the decision to start such a project rest with the suits in Japan anyway? :(
If it didnt sell well in Japan, what can he (Uchikoshi) do?

It does sound like some of the managers would like to see ZE3 as well, but they can't ignore the numbers. If he could convince them to try a crowdfunding project like Inafune did, maybe there might be a chance there. Of course, a major difference is that Inafune leads his own company, so he can more or less just decide to do that himself.

Now, about that article:

Didn't know Visual Novels were a (big) niche in Japan, but I guess it makes sense. Hard to imagine that genre being widely popular now that I think about it, even in Japan. Even if there are some really good products of that genre. Funny that the niche appears to be bigger than that.

"As a matter of fact, I'm the total opposite of a serious person."
Despite writing some really serious scenarios for 999 and VLR, huh. Interesting. Of course, those had some levity, but still.

"I wanted to create a game where you couldn't do that, because the puzzle is part of the story – there's a hidden clue within the puzzle, and if you don't clear the puzzle you can't move forward in the story."
I guess removing the puzzles in the iOS port of 999 wasn't a decision made by him.

"In the future, I'd like to write love stories or more human drama and things like that."
Hmm... wonder what that would be like. Considering past games like Ever17, it'd probably still have tons of twists like 999 and VLR.

Sounds like he is working on other non-VN games right now for narrative or as director. Wonder if any will stand out. And he's thinking of a genre mash-up too... Ace Attorney is like that, so yes please!

Interesting, so VN's are a niche even in Japan? (Albeit bigger than here). I always thought they were like, very popular considering the amount made.
BTW I just became friends with Uchikoshi on FB and voiced my support. I know he's accepting everyone's requests but I still thought that was kinda cool.
On his news feed he said "We're now considering other options" which (maybe) sounds hopeful.

This thread is specifically for any topic on 999, Virtues Last Reward, or even theories on how Zero Escape 3 will play out . Just make sure to put any spoilers on 999 or VLR in their appropriate tags.

Right regarding the previous thing I said

Spoiler: VLR
I did a little digging and found out it's specifically meant to be the player for Zero Escape 3.

I knew there was an existing topic!

Right Here!

Now hopefully a mod will merge them or something.

Spoiler: VLR
Well if that is the case then who and where is the Players original body.

Spoiler: As Above
Who knows? We don't know who the player is yet. Presumably the player must have some of the same powers as Sigma or Phi to jump to that body but we don't know their identity yet because well...it's a tease it's not meant to reveal all. However it does explain how the individual will be instrumental in solving the Nevada incident.

Though I guess without a Zero Escape 3 on the horizon we'll never know.

Hmm maybe the player could be someone who has to do with the Nevada incident or it could even be a returning character from 999 who's supposed to play an important role.

I heard people say that the new game that Kotaro Uchikoshi is working with Mages could actually be Zero Escape 3 which I hope that it is true
