DGS launches in just under a week, and to celebrate Capcom has set up an official countdown - in the form of a very long trial for Ryuunosuke!

Titled "Naruhodou Ryuunosuke's Sinful 7 Days", the countdown sees each day revealing a new video explaining what crime Ryuunosuke is on trial for that day. In today's first episode, Holmes accuses him of spoiling DGS by revealing that Holmes is in the game! It's up to readers to vote as to whether or not revealing any info about a detective game constitutes a spoiler.

Tomorrow the votes will be tallied and a video showing Ryuunosuke's fate will be posted. Then it's on to the next charge! Gonna be a long week, Ryuunosuke...

(You can vote at that top link, or share your vote on Twitter to have it count 100x.)

As of this post, it's about 62% Not Guilty vs 38% Guilty. People sure are vindictive about spoilers or are fans of Prosecutor Holmes, or both.

I'll hold off my vote for now to see if the gap will widen or shrink in several hours...

Though it's a hilarious concept XD Poor Ryu.

120 days of Ryuunosuke.

Anyhow, the people of Capcom are weird, in a good way. I had no idea it was coming so soon.

Come on, Miles, that's the bare minimum of days that people will spend on this game on 7/9.

Edit: 68% NG to 32% G. Thinking about it, most of the tallies for Guilty may be out of sheer morbid curiosity. I mean, what kind of punishment would Ryu actually face? I'm so curious... but it looks like we'll have to wait.

I finally sent in a Tweet vote; +100 to muzai. I'm not one to complain about spoilers anyway, but I just want to see Holmes' reaction.

Plus, some people will get bored if they keep seeing them for four months, not to mention will make poor makers of those comedy scenes fall into more hefty work.

Also, the fans may get bored! ...or not.

I've come barely in time for the 2nd episode's voting, but thankfully, I'm here.

That said... what the hell, Takumi. "Ryunosuke called out Susato's name thrice in quick succession and ended up warping her name. The prosecution claims that it was actually done out of ill will!"

Or, perhaps he wasn't running out of ideas, but simply wanted to hold back on the more worthy? Hmm...

The new video is pretty great. Iris is way to short for the defense bench, there are two new music tracks (one calm and relaxing, the other one probably Suspense 2015), and Ryunosuke shows a break down animation.
Also apparently Iris is a lousy lawyer considering most people are voting guilty or maybe Ryu just is totally guilty.

Long story short, Ryu's on trial this time for "torturing" Mr. Hiro Shimono with that "Objection!" voice clip. A total of 28 times, to be exact.

Actually, Iris suggested that he was guilty. I think most people will agree.

Sure. Let's accuse Ryu of the title for being "gaudy" or "showy". Which side is the one grasping here?

That's interesting. I checked the vote count about 8 hours ago, and "Not Guilty" was the majority. By now, it seems like the results have taken a complete turnabout.

...To be fair, after watching the video, Ryu is looking more and more suspicious. Perhaps he's just anxiously waiting for his copy of the finished game, but those shifty eyes and fidgeting of his don't seem to match up with his confidence before the trial...

The Court Records Tumblr has been posting summaries of these videos. I haven't heard of anyone fully translating these yet, but if you know what Ryuunosuke's on trial for, you can kind of get the gist of what's going on.

Here's the one for today/yesterday (the next one will be out in an hour or two): http://court-records-net.tumblr.com/pos ... days-day-5

I'd be glad to volunteer if no one else is getting to it first, but I've been waiting for all the videos to come out, so I can zip through them at once. How much demand is there for a complete line-by-line translation anyway?

It would be great if you translated them. I already follow them every day even though I only ever read the summary.

Also I wonder if the Famitsu reviewers said anything interesting about DGS?

Around 30 hours of play. If all the episodes are a bit shorter than in previous games, there could possibly be 6 in all. However, the length of the first case (based on the Nico Live demo) seems pretty darn long. More than an hour long and only half-way through. I still suspect there's only 5.

It's obvious by the scores, but they're all positive reviews, with a focus on the joint reasoning and jury system mechanics. Most complaints I hear people have with these games would be the way some investigation phases drag out, but it seems the game keeps a pretty consistent pace. The animations - 2D, 3D both - are pretty solid too, the humor is classic GS, and I cannot wait to play this game!

Well, the release date's just about coming up, so I should get around to those translations. Probably will get at least one episode down in the next few hours.

Excuse the double post, but holy shooter out of the universe, Batman!

I hadn't watched the latest episode until now, but I imagined a scenario where Ryuichi would be brought up at some point the night before... and it actually came true.

Seeing Ryu's exasperation at his descendent's fate is... very, very satisfying. Phoenix, this is all your fault. It truly is.

Would it be a crime suited for trial that I've posted thrice in quick succession? :3

To be fair, I bring interesting news. I'll be updating this post regularly before the release date, so feel free to check back occasionally.

7/14/15 Edit: Now that I've returned from my DGS-intensive coma, I'll keep updating this post regularly, say, every few days. It's such a shame I didn't have time before the release date to get to it.

Spoiler: The First Night, Trial
July 2, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo.
Are the defense and prosecution ready?

Susato: The defense... led by the legal assistant Susato Mikotoba, is ready, Your Honor.

Holmes: The prosecution, led by Sherlock Holmes, is naturally ready, Your Honor.

Ryu: Though it's only expected... I'm not ready at all, Your Honor.
First of all, what am I even being accused of!?

Susato: That is a good point...
The greatly urgent matter that faces you, Mr. Naruhodo...
Even I haven't an idea of what it could be.

Ryu: I've just been looking forward to Dai Gyakuten Saiban being released next week!
While waiting in anticipation, I've been passing the time peacefully!

Holmes: Objection!
...Honestly. I'm surprised you have the nerve.
You've committed seven grave "crimes", and are now standing trial for them.

Ryu: S-seven!?

Susato: Whatever do you mean?

Holmes: The defendant has committed inexcusable crimes, and until we pass judgment...
I have no interest in yielding from this bench! ...That is what I mean.

Ryu: ...
...But that's the prosecution's bench...

Susato: ...Well, Mr. Holmes doesn't have his own place to stand in the first place.

Judge: In any case...
Let's hear the prosecution's argument.

Holmes: The defendant has seven crimes... and we shall deliberate over each one for these seven consecutive nights.
Now, then. Tonight, the very first crime in question...

Susato: What is it!? What sort of grave crime has Mr. Naruhodo committed?

Holmes: The crime... of spoilers, of course.

Ryu: Huh?

Susato: S... spoilers, you say...?

Holmes: Do not forget. It was yesterday, when you were conversing with the defendant at the restaurant.
When the conversation gradually shifted to Dai Gyakuten Saiban... Do you remember?
Without concern for his surroundings, he let out in a loud voice.

Ryu: Um, oh! Yeah, I did...
"It's finally coming next week! Dai Gyakuten Saiban's release day!"
"I can't wait to see what kinds of strange deductions Mr. Holmes will make!"

Holmes: Objection!
...Yes. Right there! That is what I must snap at!
The appearance of the great detective myself was meant to be secretly "slipped in".
It was a secret among secrets! I didn't want it to be revealed before the game is released.
You, to spill such a secret in the midst of a crowd! There's no way I can possibly let it slide!

Ryu: Uh.

Holmes: "Mr. Holmes", "his curious deductions"... these are both huge spoilers!

Susato: Hold it!
However, if I may point out, they would be considered "information", not spoilers.
...Rather, the revelation of Mr. Holmes has already been disclosed to the public!
It was done so to draw in attention and rouse up interest in this game.

Ryu: ...Not to mention, there's nothing "secret" about Mr. Holmes' appearance...

Susato: And if I may again point out, regarding the "curious deductions"...

Holmes: Objection!
Not so fast! That's much too naive of you, Ms. Susato!

Susato: ...!

Holmes: Listen. In the world of mystery games, any trivial piece of information is vital.
The defendant, Ryunosuke Naruhodo. The crime, "rude and insensitive spoilers".
...The prosecution requests that he be held for capital punishment!

Judge: Very well. Allow me to summarize the points of this discussion as the following.
"Revealing anything in a mystery can become a spoiler."
"Would it be 'wrong' to tell information that was publicly released beforehand?"

Holmes: No matter who, we all have a "right to know", as well as a "right to not know".

Judge: This court accepts the prosecution's request. The final verdict will be announced tomorrow night, at 17:00.
The fate of the defendant, Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo, will be decided by the jury.
Is he "guilty" or "not guilty"? We await your votes!

Susato: Well then! Let us meet again tomorrow night.

Ryu: Help meeeee!

(Susato: Now, we wait for the vote results!)

Spoiler: The First Night, Verdict
July 3, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Well then, I will be announcing the verdict for this night's trial.
Before I do, however, are there any other arguments to be brought up?

Susato: I, along with the defendant, very much dislike spoilers. However...

Ryu: It's kinda obvious if you think about it! Mr. Holmes was supposed to appear...

Holmes: Objection!
"It's kinda obvious"? Just what about the appearance of the greatest detective is "kinda obvious"?

Susato: Objection!
I'm sorry, but you've just made a fatal contradiction.

Holmes: W-what?

Susato: If your appearance in this game was truly meant to be a secret...
...You currently are standing at the prosecution's bench.
Would that not be a kind of spoiler itself!?

Holmes: ...
...Please don't speak without rhyme or reason of a possibility without rhyme or reason.

Judge: That is enough. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, we leave the verdict to you.

Jurists: Not Guilty.

Judge: It appears the jury has come to a decisive consensus.

Holmes: The sinful defendant, Ryunosuke Naruhodo...
For this trial tonight is...
Not Guilty.

My, my. What an unexpected result to come from our prudent jury.

Ryu: Thank you very much!

Holmes: Hold it!
...I understand. This man whose "kinda obvious" spoilers have lost him all his friends.

Ryu: Huh?

Holmes: Yes, you surely are the kind of person who would say it like it's nothing much.
From here on, those who have bought and read the "Sherlock Holmes" stories will say...
"Holmes? Ah, you mean that guy who fell off a cliff and died?"
Or...
"Oh, but didn't that guy somehow come back to life anyway?"
And such!

Ryu: Mr. Holmes... he's so grieved that he's started to spoil things about himself.

Susato: Although... I feel that he may be oddly mistaken about the details...

Judge: And with that, the first night of the trial of Ryunosuke Naruhodo is now adjourned.

Holmes: We hope you'll join us again for the next night.

Susato: Good luck to the defense for that trial and keep it going!

Judge: Please look forward to the second consecutive night of trial.

Spoiler: The Second Night, Trial
Judge: Court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo.
This is the 2nd night. Are the defense and prosecution ready?

Asogi: The defense... led by the attorney Kazuma Asogi, is ready, Your Honor.

Holmes: The prosecution, led by Sherlock Holmes, is in perfect condition, Your Honor.

Ryu: And once again... I'm not ready at all, Your Honor.
What is it this time!? I can't think of anything I've done wrong!

Holmes: Tonight's crime in question is... "slander" directed at that girl.

Asogi: Slander...?

Ryu: That girl...?

Holmes: Yes, the defendant's own legal assistant. I of course mean her.

Asogi: The legal assistant, Susato Mikotoba!

Holmes: Do not forget. It was yesterday at the restaurant where everyone was having a meal.
When she had left her seat, she'd forgotten her wallet there, so the defendant rushed to call out to her.
Do you remember now?

Ryu: Um, oh. Yeah, I did...
"Hm? Hey, this is Susato's wallet."
"Wait! Susato-san! Susassan! Susatsan!"

Holmes: Objection!
The defendant ended up calling her that! And three times, no less!

Asogi: Objection!
While it's true that it would be rude to call his own assistant the wrong name...

Holmes: Objection!
And three times, no less, until it became "Susatsan".
Any further, and it would have become "ototsan"! [T/N: Another way to say "Dad".]

Ryu: Aaaaaaargh!

Asogi: However! Recall that he had spoken the name three times in quick succession!
Surely it would have been difficult for him to speak clearly in that situation.
It's a beautiful name, but hard to pronounce. A unfortunate tongue-twisting trap that he fell into!

Holmes: The defendant, Ryunosuke Naruhodo. The crime, "strange articulation worthy of slander".
...The prosecution requests that he be held for capital punishment!

Judge: Very well. Allow me to summarize the points of this discussion as the following.
"Saying the name 'Susato-san' three times quickly in succession cannot be done."
"Is this 'ill intent', or simply an unavoidable difficulty?"

Holmes: A beautiful name deserves to be pronounced beautifully.

Judge: This court accepts the prosecution's request. The final verdict will be announced tomorrow night, at 17:00.
The fate of the defendant, Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo, will be decided by the jury.
Is he "guilty" or "not guilty"? We await your votes!

Asogi: That will be all for tonight. Let us meet again tomorrow.

Ryu: Help meeeee!

(Asogi: I will always believe in you.)

Spoiler: The Second Night, Verdict
July 4, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Well then, I will be announcing the verdict for this night's trial.
Before I do, however, are there any other arguments to be brought up?

Asogi: It seems people have some difficulty with pronouncing "s-sounds" in quick succession.
If being unable to pronounce the name in question is a crime, then those people would also become "criminals"!

Holmes: Objection!
...Sorry, but that excuse won't pass here. In any case, now...
I have moved on to a "higher" stage in this battle.
T/N: He leveled up. Oh, Holmes, you're still thinking about RPGs...

Ryu: "Higher"? W-what do you mean?

Holmes: You fellows refer to her as "Susato-san", so you have some excuse. However, to an Englishman, it would be...
"Miss Susato"... Now that would be the worst case of "triple s-sounds"!

Asogi: W-what?

Holmes: Now! Try it yourself. Say "Miss Susato" three times fast!

Ryu: ...
Mis-susus...
Susatosaaaaaaan!

Asogi: Objection!
Just now, he's clearly made a slip-up.

Holmes: W-what?

Asogi: Since the start of this trial, I picked up on something you had said.
Every time you bring her up, not once have you said it directly.

Holmes: Uh...

Asogi: Saying "her", "that girl", "your own assistant"... There can be only one reason.
You suspect that you yourself have a high likelihood to misspeak her name!

Holmes: ...
...I wouldn't say I might not have any excuse to say otherwise.

Judge: And with that, the second night of the trial of Ryunosuke Naruhodo is now adjourned.

Holmes: We hope you'll join us again for the next night.

Asogi: It seems I fit well into my role, huh... buddy?

Ryu: Thanks a lot. Now I can join Susato for some sweets.

Asogi: Yeah, that's for the better. I'm sure your assistant will be glad too.

Ryu: ...
(Wait, even you have trouble pronouncing her name!?)

Judge: Please look forward to the third consecutive night of trial.

Spoiler: The Third Night, Trial
July 4, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo.
This is the 3rd night. Are the defense and prosecution ready?

Iris: The defense... led by Iris Watson, is ready, Your Honor!

Holmes: The prosecution, led by Sherlock Holmes, is naturally ready, Your Honor.

Ryu: ...It goes without saying, but I'm not ready at all, Your Honor.
Enough, cut me some slack, guys! Every night, I'm made into some "bad guy"...

Holmes: The crime in question tonight... is "overdoing". Of course, you do remember what that is?

Ryu: Objection!
Of course, I don't remember anything about it, and I've never heard of such a crime anyway!

Holmes: Exactly! It is what you said just now... "Objection".

Ryu: Huh? I don't get it...

Iris: Hold it!
The defense requests that Holmes please explain himself!

Ryu: Uh... before that.
Could someone help the defense with a little more "height"?

Holmes: Very well... one of those potato crates should do!

Iris: Oooh... What a splendid view!

Judge: Oh, what a charming little attorney.

Iris: Ehehe.

Holmes: Surely, Defendant, you know the name... "Hiro Shimono"?

Ryu: Oh, um, that's...

Iris: Ah! That's the voice actor for Ryu here!
T/N: Yes, she calls him "Naruhodo-kun", like Maya does.

Ryu: V-voice actor... He's somehow found an unexpected place to hit me with.

Holmes: It was at a certain studio during the recording of those "Objections". You remember now, don't you?
Due to some vague reason about being unsatisfactory, he recorded it quite a few times.

Ryu: Um... I don't really remember it that well, so just how many times was it...?

Holmes: No less than 16 times! Ruthlessly forcing Mr. Shimono to shriek until his throat went hoarse.

Judge: Ooooh... That's simply an absurd amount!

Holmes: And that's not all.
Giving some puzzling reason as "One way or another, it's just not satisfactory," he tried again another day.
This time, he was made to shriek another 12 times.
And yet, only one of them all came to be used in the game!

Ryu: Aaaaaaargh!

Holmes: The defendant, Ryunosuke Naruhodo. The crime, "putting Mr. Shimono in Objection Hell".
...The prosecution requests that he be held for capital punishment!

Judge: Very well. Allow me to summarize the points of this discussion as the following.
"Is a total of 28 attempts of 'Objection' merely 'nitpicking' or simply 'overdoing'?"

Holmes: It's probably Mr. Shimono's final "Objection" that captures his true voice.

Iris: Hmm...
Yep! Even I have to admit it. He's clearly guilty.

Ryu: What!? Iris, you're my defense! You're supposed to be on my side...

Judge: This court accepts the prosecution's request. The final verdict will be announced tomorrow night, at 17:00.
The fate of the defendant, Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo, will be decided by the jury.
Is he "guilty" or "not guilty"? We await your votes!

Iris: It's about time for dinner. Let's play again tomorrow!

Ryu: Help meeeee!

(Iris: Alright! Let's get it started!)

Spoiler: The Third Night, Verdict
July 5, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Well then, I will be announcing the verdict for this night's trial.
Before I do, however, are there any other arguments to be brought up?

Iris: The defense has investigated with utmost care into all the facts of this case!

Ryu: Iris...

Holmes: Oh? So have you uncovered some new truth to bring to light?

Iris: Indeed I have! And it's a mind-blowing truth at that!
The voice actor, Mr. Shimono, had recorded a total of 28 times of "Objection!"
In the end, the one that came to be used was... the very first take!

Judge: ...That's a rather cruel twist of fate.

Ryu: Objection!
Iris, while that may be the fact of this case...
How did you think of this shout I just gave?

Holmes: Incidentally, that "Objection" just now was... take #23, wasn't it?

Ryu: I... I'm sorryyyy!!

Holmes: Well then. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the verdict, if you please!

Jurists: Guilty.

Judge: It appears the jury has come to a decisive consensus.

Holmes: The sinful defendant, Ryunosuke Naruhodo...
For this trial tonight is...
Guilty!

Just as I expected, all the juries of the world are my allies.

Ryu: Aaaaaaaaahhh!!

Judge: And with that, the third night of the trial of Ryunosuke Naruhodo is now adjourned.

Holmes: We hope you'll join us again for the next night.

Iris: As I thought, a bad guy is a bad guy after all, my dear Ryu!

Judge: Please look forward to the fourth consecutive night of trial.

Spoiler: The Fourth Night, Trial
July 5, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo.
This is the 4th night. Are the defense and prosecution ready?

Susato: The defense... led by the legal assistant Susato Mikotoba, is ready, Your Honor.

Holmes: The prosecution, led by Sherlock Holmes, is naturally ready, Your Honor.

Ryu: I'm feel like I'm starting to get used to standing here, but...
Now's not the time for this! The release day of Dai Gyakuten Saiban is almost...

Holmes: Yes, "that" just now is tonight's crime in question.

Ryu: Huh? "That" just now?

Susato: Perhaps... you mean the title, "Dai Gyakuten Saiban"?

Holmes: Exactly. It's simply "Dai" attached to "Gyakuten Saiban".
It's the crime of "pettiness"... not something you can make excuses for, you know?

Susato: But, "Dai Gyakuten Saiban" is a good title, isn't it!?

Ryu: For starters, I wasn't the one who thought up of that title...

Susato: Furthermore, Capcom's old fans who are familiar with the series...
have moved on from that "village" and sought new "greatness"!

Holmes: In that case, what's next? We add a "Super" to the title?

Ryu: ...!

Susato: Then, what sort of title would you say would be better?

Holmes: Hm, yes... For example...
"Ace Detective Sherlock Holmes' Amber Beautiful Judgment"... of sorts.

Susato: Objection!
...Excuse me, but it's a bit too long, and the main character is meant to be Mr. Naruhodo...

Ryu: What do you mean by "Meant to be"? Anyway, Mr. Holmes...
You have too many characters in your full name, so it's hard to use.

Holmes: Objection!
Saying something like that as if it's everyone opinion is a low blow! I call foul play!
...In any case, calling this game "Dai Gyakuten Saiban"...
makes the original "Gyakuten Saiban" seem small in comparison!

Ryu: Aaaaaargh!

Susato: ...So that is what you choose to pick at?

Judge: Very well. Allow me to summarize the points of this discussion as the following.
"Is the title of 'Dai Gyakuten Saiban' appropriate or a cop-out?"

Holmes: It's not too late. We can still shift course over to my "Amberness".

Judge: This court accepts the prosecution's request. The final verdict will be announced tomorrow night, at 17:00.
The fate of the defendant, Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo, will be decided by the jury.
Is he "guilty" or "not guilty"? We await your votes!

Susato: This is my second time at the defense. I've been keeping a secret too!

Ryu: Help meeeee!

(Spoken line is the same as before)

Spoiler: The Fourth Night, Verdict
July 6, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Well then, I will be announcing the verdict for this night's trial.
Before I do, however, are there any other arguments to be brought up?

Susato: It seems when the title was considered, there was a certain restriction on it.
An official notification from Capcom said, "It has to be like 'Gyakuten Saiban'."

Ryu: That's right. Several contenders came up from the discussion...
Like, "Gyakuten Saiban Renaissance" and "Democracy Gyakuten Saiban"...

Susato: Even "Gyakuten Saiban - Industrial Revolution" and "Gyakuten Saiban - In London"...

Holmes: I'd like to ask about one among those you've mentioned.
"Gyakuten Saiban Holmes"... Why didn't we go with this!?

Susato: There's a fatal contradiction in your words just now.

Holmes: What? A contradiction... in my words?

Susato: Three days ago, on the first night. Mr. Holmes, you had said the following.
Your appearance in the game was meant to be a "secret among secrets".

Holmes: Ah...

Susato: In that case, if the title itself reveals your existence...
It's an extremely bad case of "spoilers"!

Holmes: ...
It's not that I don't feel at all like saying that I don't remember saying that.

Judge: And with that, the fourth night of the trial of Ryunosuke Naruhodo is now adjourned.

Holmes: We hope you'll join us again for the next night.

Susato: The release date is in 3 days. Best regards for tomorrow!

Judge: Please look forward to the fifth consecutive night of trial.

Spoiler: The Fifth Night, Trial
July 6, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo.
This is the 5th night. Are the defense and prosecution ready?

Asogi: The defense... led by the attorney Kazuma Asogi, is ready, Your Honor.

Holmes: The prosecution, led by Sherlock Holmes. Incomplete preparations aren't really preparations.

Ryu: Objection!
Like I said, there's only one thing we all should be preparing for.
The release date, coming in 3 days...

Holmes: Exactly! That is what your crime in question for tonight is.
"Suspicious behavior"... Surely, you know what I mean?

Ryu: S-suspicious behavior? Just what have I done?

Holmes: Your eyes, Defendant.
Your eyes keep shifting back and forth so much, it's become an eyesore.
I officially declare that you are suspicious beyond all doubt and unfit to be a defense attorney!

Asogi: However... before he arrived on this great stage tonight, he told me in the lobby...

(Ryu: Tonight's battle is starting soon... Yeah, I'll give it my all!)

Asogi: It's true the defendant's eyes may be shifting about quietly. But...
His abilities speak louder than words!*

Holmes: ...Sorry, but that's not the only issue here.

Asogi: Huh?

Holmes: You may not see it from your bench, but the main problem isn't just his eyes.
It's below, where the defendant stands.
His shaking knees are making noise!*

Ryu: Ah...

Holmes: And to me...
Rather than his abilities, it's his knees that are "hard on the ears"!

Ryu: Aaaaaaaargh!

Holmes: The defendant, Ryunosuke Naruhodo. The crime, "eyes shift too much for an attorney".

...The prosecution requests that he be held for capital punishment!

Judge: Very well. Allow me to summarize the points of this discussion as the following.
"If one is nervous, are shifty eyes and weak knees unavoidable?"

Holmes: Swimming and laughing are activities suited for vacation after we've settled this matter once and for all.*

Judge: This court accepts the prosecution's request. The final verdict will be announced tomorrow night, at 17:00.
The fate of the defendant, Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo, will be decided by the jury.
Is he "guilty" or "not guilty"? We await your votes!

Asogi: There's no way I can lose in this battle tonight, for the sake of my profession as an attorney...

Ryu: Help meeeee!

*T/N: It's hard to translate these bits directly without sounding strange. Btw, "ude ga naru" means "itching to show off one's skills". Holmes here uses the "naru" bit, meaning "to ring, to sound" and goes with it.

Spoiler: The Fifth Night, Verdict
July 7, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Well then, I will be announcing the verdict for this night's trial.
Before I do, however, are there any other arguments to be brought up?

Holmes: First of all, things like shifty eyes and weak knees...
You Japanese people have a strange sense of what nervous habits to have.

Asogi: What?

Holmes: Rather, it's so laughably suspicious that I hear my afternoon tea whistling!*

Asogi: ...Even with your strange Japanese, you've managed to use an especially ambiguous phrase surprisingly well.
...As expected of the world's greatest detective...!

Holmes: It seems now the verdict will not be swayed any longer.
Well then.

Judge: And with that, the fifth night of the trial of Ryunosuke Naruhodo is now adjourned.

Asogi: Ugh... What a disgrace. This is one experience I'll ever regret.

Holmes: Ah, yes. Regrets surely sink down to one's waistline.*
If you can take it, then take it! Ahahahahaha!

Asogi: Dammiiiiit...!

Ryu: (Mr. Holmes... sure is whistling his own tune. I can't make heads or tails of it.)*

Judge: Please look forward to the sixth consecutive night of trial.

*T/N: Again, I'm forced to be creative between the tea and whistling. The original line is "cha o wakashiteiru", which means "something completely absurd", and "cha" is tea. As for the waistline joke, that's just my own idea. Here, Holmes breaks up the expression "hozo o kamu", which means "regret bitterly".

Spoiler: The Sixth Night, Trial
July 7, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo.
This is the 6th night. Are the defense and prosecution ready?

Iris: The defense... led by Iris Watson, is ready, Your Honor!

Holmes: The prosecution, led by Sherlock Holmes, is naturally ready, Your Honor.

Ryu: Even I've gotten used to standing here...
Just how many times do I have to keep standing until you're satisfied!?

Holmes: Yes, "that" just now is tonight's crime in question.

Iris: What do you mean, Sherlock?

Holmes: The defendant... no, rather, the defendant's entire lineage...
Just how many times will he stand trial for some accusation until he's satisfied?

Ryu: My... lineage?

Holmes: What I'd like to ask is, among your lineage there's an attorney named Ryuichi, yes?

Ryu: ...
I'm not sure how to answer that.

Holmes: As of now, that attorney has been accused twice so far.
And you yourself, his ancestor, have been accused 7 times already, including tonight.
Altogether, that's 9 times! Your lineage sure seems to like standing there!

Iris: But one of those 7 times wasn't in a game, but an event!

Holmes: An event...?

Iris: "The Great London Court Murder Case"... Even now it's being exhibited all across the nation to great success!

Holmes: Ah, yes. It seems we're still holding that fun event.

Ryu: Also, 5 of the other times were held here on these 5 days!
No matter how you look at it, it's not part of the actual game!

Holmes: Well, in any case...
With the release date so close, I'm not sure what to think of another similar protagonist that already had stood there.

Ryu: Ugh...

Holmes: With this, probably...
I can expect you'd look terrible in the final game!

Ryu: Aaaaaaaargh!

Holmes: The defendant, Ryunosuke Naruhodo. The crime, "having a lineage accused too many times".
...The prosecution requests that he be held for capital punishment!

Judge: Very well. Allow me to summarize the points of this discussion as the following.
"Setting aside that the Naruhodo family has starred as protagonist in stories of justice,
the number of times they have stood trial is 9 in all. Is this amount attributed appropriately or not?"

Holmes: ...Of course, we can expect the record may change again by tomorrow.

Ryu: ...Yeah, I guess you're right about that.

Judge: This court accepts the prosecution's request. The final verdict will be announced tomorrow night, at 17:00.
The fate of the defendant, Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo, will be decided by the jury.
Is he "guilty" or "not guilty"? We await your votes!

Iris: But, I'm sure it's exciting to be at the defendant's stand!

Ryu: Help meeeee!

Spoiler: The Sixth Night, Verdict
July 8, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Well then, I will be announcing the verdict for this night's trial.
Before I do, however, are there any other arguments to be brought up?

Holmes: ...I have indeed heard that lately there's a favoring trend for the "dark hero" archetype.
A pure white genius, such as myself, who would get fired up for the sake of justice may have become a little old-fashioned.

Iris: Leave it to you, Sherlock, to declare that in a blink of an eye.

Holmes: However, that said!
The defendant at his appointed place is even dressed in complete black!
In a way, it's like he's going too far or doing too much; a little too good to be true, in fact!

Iris: Objection!
Sorry, Sherlock, but you've forgotten one thing.

Holmes: Huh?

Iris: In the history of Gyakuten Saiban, the central character has almost always...
become a defendant by some rather unthinkable premise.

Holmes: W-what...?

Iris: In other words...
Just by being at there at the defendant's stand is proof that he's a competent "Turnabout Man"!

Holmes: Aaaaaaaaahh!

Judge: And with that, the sixth night of the trial of Ryunosuke Naruhodo is now adjourned.

Holmes: Next time is the final night at last. As always, we hope you'll join us for it!

Iris: Tomorrow is finally the release day! Keep your hopes up 'til the very end!

Judge: Please look forward to the final consecutive night of trial.

Spoiler: The Final Night
July 8, 5:00 pm
Old Bailey
Great London Court

Judge: Court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Ryunosuke Naruhodo.
This is the very last night. Are the defense and prosecution ready?

Holmes: The prosecution, led by Sherlock Holmes, is naturally ready, Your Honor.

Ryu: The defense, led by Ryunosuke Naruhodo, is also ready, Your Honor.

Holmes: Oh? So you've finally come to stand there yourself.

Ryu: ...Everyone worked long and hard for my sake for these past 6 nights.
This time, I'll break up this trial by my own hands!

Susato: Um... Mr. Naruhodo, I don't think "break up" is exactly right...

Asogi: Before you break anything, how about blooming in full glory first, Naruhodo!?

Ryu: (...Is that how it went?)

Holmes: I hope you're well prepared, Mr. Naruhodo...
For this time, I too will give my serious effort.
You'll tremble before your "worst crime" that blows away all other crimes up until now!

Ryu: ...!

Asogi: ...!

Judge: ...!

Order! Order in the court!

Susato: Just what sort of crime are you talking about?
What is it that's so bad...?

Holmes: ...Well, since you're so enthusiastic to know, allow me to indict him.
The defendant, Ryunosuke Naruhodo. His worst, most vicious crime of all.
It is...

???: Objection!
That's enough for this farce!

van Zieks: My name is Barok van Zieks.

Susato: T-that person is...
the legendary prosecutor known as the "Death God of the Old Bailey"!

Ryu: W-what!?

van Zieks: The sinful defendant, Ryunosuke Naruhodo. Your crime on trial... is murder!

Ryu, Asogi: Objection!

Asogi: That's ridiculous! There's no way we can accept that indictment!

Ryu: I didn't do it! I couldn't commit murder!

van Zieks: Objection!
...That is a good look in your eyes, Japanese.
Cling to that illusion you call "courage" and face against me with reckless abandon.

Ryu: ...!

van Zieks: ...You have no other choice... as my "sacrifice".
First will be judgment held on the island nation in the east!
The trial will take place tomorrow, on July 9!
...Let us face off again in court sometime, Japanese.

Susato: Mr. Naruhodo! July 7... is soon upon us!

Asogi: Well then, let's go!

Ryu: Prosecutor van Zieks, and jurists around the world!
I'll definitely prove my innocence and win that trial... That's right.
In the official release!

~ Trailer ~

(Narrator: It has been several decades since the historic opening of the country.)

Meiji Era... Imperial Japan

(In the island nation of the Far East, at this moment, a great surge of Westernization billows across like a great wave.)

A story that begins with a single gunshot

(On this stage set in this age, the curtains rise upon a new story.)

A curious murder case that takes place aboard a ship overseas

(Susato: Let us settle this case... with our efforts combined, we'll definitely find it!)

(Holmes: Well then, shall we begin our solution to this riddle? The truth behind this curious murder case... naturally.)

Then... the stage moves from Imperial Japan to the foggy city of London

(Ryu: I will become a defense attorney... definitely!)

(Susato: If it's you, Mr. Naruhodo, then I know you will! I believe in you!)

(Holmes: I, too, tremble with excitement to see what awaits you!)

(Ryu: Um... if you don't mind, could you please participate with me, Mr. Holmes?)

(Narrator: From Imperial Japan to the Great British Empire... attorney and great detective now bring about a miraculous meeting!)

(Ryu: Objection! Dai Gyakuten Saiban -- The Adventures of Ryunosuke Naruhodo -- goes on sale tomorrow!)

~ End trailer ~

Holmes: ...Hm?
Don't tell me... this is already "the end"?
Then where am I supposed to go to present the final "crime" I prepared for!?

Iris: Aw, there's no helping it, Sherlock.
We'll just have to wait for Ryu and Susato here in London.
During the events of Dai Gyakuten Saiban, of course!

Holmes: Yeah, let's just wait for their "arrival" in London...
Now then, please look forward to it! ...This has been Sherlock Holmes.

To be continued...
in the official release!

* For those wondering, even after playing through the entire game myself, I haven't a clue as to what sort of crime Sherlock was referring to here. Perhaps he meant that one time when his intriguing deductions led him to pinning a conspiracy on Ryu.

...And that's all. Sorry for those who were hoping to catch this translation before the release date, but even I (especially I) became distracted by all the hype. In any case, it's not too late to jump on this pin-a-crime-on-the-Ryu bandwagon!

Fantastic, thank you so much for the translation! :will:

All these accusations are so trivial, Holmes need to chill.

I'm thinking of drawing something to celebrate DGS release... but I can't think of anything :sadshoe: Any ideas?

If you haven't been following along, the grand finale's tonight, and with it comes that song. Good on them for waiting so long to bust it out!

Updated to the third night, and... woiankjdfgi!?@!#

Amazing finale. A great deal of it is voiced, the newest pursuit theme is wondrous, and Holmes is still by far my favorite character right off the bat.

But... now I'm going to have to translate an entire trailer? :/ Well, at least I can understand a good deal of what's being said, and it's pretty short anyway, so I can manage.

The question is, will I have enough time to cover them all before the livestreams tomorrow...? Hey, Bolt, when did you say you were going to livestream the game?
