It was a long and busy AA6 stream tonight, with or without the technical difficulties. The main AA6 site has been updated, so let's hit the major points! (This post is updating...)
First off, "that" character was just who everyone thought: Maya Fey is back! She'll be standing in court alongside Phoenix in the Kurain sections of the game.

Also announced: pre-order bonsues and limited editions for the game!
Pre-ordering will net you a pair of short non-canon episodes featuring Phoenix vs. Edgeworth in Kurain (with Pearl too) and Apollo vs. Klavier in Japanifornia (with Leifa and Jinxie). Unlike PLvsPW and DGS' episodes, these contain actual gameplay (cross-examination, investigation, etc.) and are exclusive to pre-orders. In addition, pre-ordering at certain retailers will get you pixel dot AA6 themes for your 3DS! And buying the game in the first few weeks will let you get costumes for Phoenix (Furio Tigre clothing), Apollo (school uniform), and Athena (waitress outfit)!
A special edition for the game was also announced, featuring a new drama CD, a tote bag, postcards, and keychains!
And remember that Twitter campaign? The rewards have been revealed: "mini" Apollo/Athena/Phoenix icons and wallpapers at 6,000 tweets, costumed Apollo/Phoenix/Athena icons and wallpapers at 12,000, and an anime prologue to AA6 at 18,000!
And building off the success of the two Ace Attorney stage plays thus far, an Ace Attorney Investigations-inspired play was announced!
In short: it was a long night, and a few things have probably slipped by me (such as the witness the chat affectionately dubbed "Jesus detective". Note: not actually a detective as far as we know.) Thank you all for sticking around while we dealt with the technical issues!

I watched all of it through Ameba Fresh and we didn't miss anything, just a quick shot of the AA commuter mug and the mention of the web demo.
Overall, we got a lot more than I thought we would! I think they've done a good job trying to make Maya appear older but not get so different that her fans will be upset. Only thing I hope is that she has some big growth as a character. It sounds like they're making it so she is STILL training to become the master of Kurain which is kind of rediculous since they kept hinting in the OT that it would be like 2020 or something. Unless she's already master of Japanifornia's Kurain and now she's applying for the promotion. I'm not sure. So I really hope they show some way in which she has matured or changed from when we last saw her.
Now the question becomes, when will Capcom of America make its move (not the move of shutting down the stream, the other move where they announce the localized name and vague release date). DD's Japanese release date was announced in April of 2013 and the Enlgish press release came out in May. So maybe by next month we'll know. And going off of DD, this means that we may get the game in September if they again take 3 months.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

Thanks! Now I have new questions regarding what's going on at the office to make them so sad. I know they wouldn't put Trucy into this trailer but she better not be the victim of case 2.
The fact that the princess seemed to call Maya foolish as well as Phoenix seems to indicate there could be some tension and disagreement about Maya's position in Kurain, which is interesting.
At first I was thinking that Maya's interrupted phone call is what brings Phoenix to Kurain, but then again if that were the case then in that Maya reveal cutscene I would think Phoenix wouldn't be looking like he was just casually sight-seeing like he seemed to be in that anime scene so who knows.

otherwise i'm excited for the game, but not getting my hopes too high since i sort of disliked Dual Destinies after replaying it a few times, hoping the writing gets better.

That was the lamest way they could've brought Maya and they went with it. God damn it. I was really hoping it wouldn't be like this.Well... as long as the story is good.
Dang it, I just can't get this out of my head. Couldn't they have made her taller and more dignified. Now 14-year-old Leifa looks older than 26-year-old Maya. I mean, we can probably justify it by looking at DBZ for comparison where Goku pretty much remains the same despite of his age but they at least accounted really well for his design-differences. Like with Pearl, couldn't they at least have drastically updated her animations? Oh, well.

Thanks! The Maya one is actually backed up in the gameplay they showed off - I'm reviewing it and she comments that once she finishes she'll finally be able to return to Japan. (Seems like she's been in Kurain for a while.)

He hasn't been confirmed as a detective, but a musician, namely a bard, so he's just a witness (for now). His name is Potdino? Portdino? Portdeeno?
This name is going to bother me for a while.
On another note, I found the name of that pup! Its name is Mitamaru, and by that name, I assume it's a boy.

He hasn't been confirmed as a detective, but a musician, namely a bard, so he's just a witness (for now). His name is Potdino? Portdino? Portdeeno?
This name is going to bother me for a while.
On another note, I found the name of that pup! Its name is Mitamaru, and by that name, I assume it's a boy.
I would like to help translate the web demo, but I can't go line by line without playing it again. Is a summary just fine with everyone?
Yes, I think a summary will be just fine for me. I'm just curious about the goings-on in the demo. So long as I get a good feel for that, I'm personally fine with it.

Dang it, I just can't get this out of my head. Couldn't they have made her taller and more dignified. Now 14-year-old Leifa looks older than 26-year-old Maya. I mean, we can probably justify it by looking at DBZ for comparison where Goku pretty much remains the same despite of his age but they at least accounted really well for his design-differences. Like with Pearl, couldn't they at least have drastically updated her animations? Oh, well.

But the last time we saw her she was 19, so not a lot of changes were to be expected.
I am 31 and I know how me and my friends were when we were 16-19 and to be honest the changes aren't that big, at least when we're among ourselves. I expect Maya to be a little bit more serious when talking with strangers, but around Nick she should be more or less the same.

Not a good comparison, considering that Goku is an alien and Vegeta does reveal that Saiyans tend to age much slower than humans, in order to be able to fight longer. Also, that their hair doesn't change from the day they are born. With the exceptions of beards and moustaches. So... yeah. Goku has a reason for not looking different, despite a good 20 or 30 years passing over the course of the series.
But I absolutely agree, Maya has barely changed. Oh, wow. She now wears a very subtle color of lipstick. What a change. And can I just say that this white cloth over her old outfit looks like one of the laziest 'updated' costumes one can think of? I know, I know, Maya is iconic for people and so is her purple acolyte attire... but it's been almost 10 years! Phoenix updated his design somewhat. So did Edgeworth. Couldn't they at least make Maya's attire be the same color, but more... dignified? I mean, she is the Master of Kurain. Fan-made sprites made her attire better for an older Maya.
Which gets me to that. What do you mean 'continuing' her training? She finished her training during the story, from what I recall. She left at the end of the first game to finish up, Morgan said Maya would become the master at the age of 20 (at which point Misty would have been officially declared dead and Kurain cannot be without a master), so why is she still training?
I'm trying really hard to not be only negative about the news that Maya is back, but I can't help it. Her reveal is... it's such a letdown. Pearl being seen as grown up - that was cool. She was still reminiscent of the girl we once played alongside of, but she has aged and is becoming an adult. Maya here looks like she jumped out of AA3, with just some lipstick slapped onto her face.
Also, I really, REALLY hope they don't do the "Maya is suspected of murder" plot AGAIN for the sake of 'nostalgia'. It got really boring the second time it happened, it was annoying the third time because it prolonged an already annoyingly long, stretched out case and we don't need it again.
