@Southern Corn Actually, Phoenix tried to pin the blame on Adrian twice. Once during the first part of the trial, when he genuinely thought she was the killer... and the second time, in the last day of the trial, when he knew Engarde was the murderer. In the last time, he only did it cuz he was desperate to extend the trial and save Maya.
The first time, he was kind of dumb... it doesn't take a genius to figure out that somebody doesn't need to kill a person themselves to be the mastermind behind a crime or the main instigator of a murder. So his use of the Magatama was meaningless. Plus, he had an instinct/intuition that something was wrong himself, even with the lack of response of the Magatama.
@luck The whole point of JFA is to establish that a lawyer should be more than a "person who wants a not guilty verdict no matter what", and a prosecutor should be more than a "person who wants a guilty verdict no matter what". Being like this is no different from being a mindless machine with no moral compass. Finding out the
truth is important. Phoenix gives a chance to his clients and believes in them, as long as the evidence points to their innocence. After 1-4, Edgeworth changes and tries to do his job and find criminals guilty, as long as the evidence points to them being guilty.
