"Well, I used to be." Colin sighed. "When I lost my sight, my father decided the best course of action was to kill me--survival of the fittest is the Chamberlain motto after all. My mother convinced him to give it a few years in case I recovered--that was when I got Constantine. Anyway, it never happened so she decided to talk him down to just disowning me instead. I didn't really have a future left, so I just accepted the application I'd gotten for Hope's Peak some time before."

Colin shrugged. "So yeah, sorry Raymond and Veronica. Neither of you were ever going to get paid, that was a lie."

Her voice was slowly crescendoing. "Or did ya just intend to make me the fool? Did ya really have that little thought fer me at all? Did I do somethin wrong? What? What is it? Disdain or apathy?"

"S-Sorry. It was all an act." Colin looked away. "I thought you guys would be less willing to vote for me if I started to become more likable. That's all it was, don't start thinking I liked any of you."

"No." Colin was firm, and looked more serious than he ever had before. "Had you grabbed the cake, I would've stopped it right there. I would've taken everything I planned and burnt it to the ground. You can choose whether or not to believe that, but it's the truth."

“Well, it’s not like I did much work for you anyways. I’m surprised you remembered that, to be honest.”

She took off her hat as she spoke, and placed it on her podium.

“...It was nice talking with you while it lasted.”

Ohishi listened solemnly to Mikael's recording. She faced the group again, eyes lowered, but remained pointedly silent, fan masking the lower half of her face.

At Colin's explanation, Simon's face seems to turn pale. "Y'know... I think I understand how that might've felt..."

He looks down and mumbles, "...But I swear... I ain't gonna turn out like this..."

Raymond speaks loudly.

"Who cares? He's a killer. He wanted one of us dead, for god knows what reason. With a villain like him gone, we might stand a chance. We might not need to deal with anymore degenerates.."

Raymond sighs. "Whatever. It's not like I'm one to say anything.."

“Shut the fuck up. Say what you will about me, but I won’t hear such disgusting hypocrisy before I die. Save Aria and Cain, none of you cared about Mikael. I won’t claim I did, but don’t you dare shed tears for him when all he got in life from you all was apathy.

“Hell, I don't even care if I go to the grave with each of you hating me. At least that means I made you guys feel enough at one point where you can feel betrayed now. Raymond laughs.

"You're pathetic. Every last word that has come from your mouth makes me sick to my stomach. I've got no reason to care for whatever you say. You're a liar. Trying to make us feel for you and doubt ourselves. Pathetic. I'll live my life the way I want to, I hope the others do the same.

Just like Monokuma said when we arrived. No one knows who we are anymore. And I'm sure everyone will forget scum like you when you pass on. To think I'd take advice from you. Calling you the closest I'd have to a friend out of the people in this place. You're right. Trash really should stick together. Enjoy hell, where you belong."

Raymond turns away, silently standing on his podium, waiting for the trial to end, hiding his face all the while.

Maribelle walked from her podium up to Colin to face him for the first time. "So then why? If'n ya didn't care about us at all, ya could've made yerself less likely to be caught. Ya did a few times when ya tried to get us to arrive closer to the truth, so ya didn't just wanna get away with it. So why'd ya do it? Is this... is this really the outcome ya wanted? The one you invisioned? Goin' where ya knew I couldn't follow? Just... why?"

"I guess I shouldn't have expected you'd let me go that easily." Colin smiled. "That is why I married you..." He sighed. "Fine. Listen up because everything I say from this point forward is the truth.

"I considered all of you trash when we first met. As we got to know each other, I started to consider all of you my trash. As our school life went on I found myself enjoying conversations with everyone, and I especially enjoyed leading the class trials...even if the first one was just a stupid bitch getting in way over her head. It didn't take long for me to become afraid...that all of you might be my friends--that I might be trash too. That if I stuck around here too long I might lose the world that I deserved and become content with being an everyday student Going from what was a life of wealth and anything I wanted to...sitting around a shitty board game like Cluedo was not what I had in mind.

"I slowly began to think that all of you would be lost without me. In particular, you were all brainless sheep during Azurine's trial. Denying a truth just because it's difficult to accept, I've seen ants with more logic than that. What if I died next? You'd be fucked, plain and simple. All of you were weak and didn't deserve to survive if you couldn't do that much. I don't expect you to understand my reasoning but that's how I felt.

Then came this trial with Monokuma's new motive. He provided me...an easy escape. A way to forget about this killing game...a way to forget that I'm just as much trash as the rest of you and to try to cling back to something I had already lost. Plus I have to say forgetting people like Chisami was a real deal-sweetener.

"I killed Mikael, and I intended to get away with it. If you guys couldn't find me out, you didn't deserve to live. If you could, then I felt I left you in good enough hands. Towards the end of the trial, I felt the truth may not be reached and I...well I had a change of heart. Perhaps I didn't want to risk you dying, perhaps I just wanted it to be over, but I think what I really realized is that I was still a prince after all, even if not in name....hence the theatrics towards the end." He gave an earnest smile. "As I said, I don't expect any of you to understand me. But I did enjoy the chance to feel like a leader just once. That I could make a hard decision and not be thanked for it."

He then thought a bit. "But if you want some extra honesty, I really can't believe that I'm dying before fucking Simon and Yuma. That's the most painful part of all this."

"So... you get to be the leader, and forgetting about me was just..." she choked on her words, "... just icing on the cake for you? I... I can't... I just..."

She shook her head and cleared her throat. "As you wish. Your Highness." she turned to move back to her podium.

After this last speech, Ohishi finally let out a sigh of resignation and shook her head.

"Tactless as ever.
Somehow fitting, I suppose.
...Farewell, Chamberlain."

She raised her open palm to slap Colin, but then slowly lowered it instead. "Did it... did it really never occur to you..." she spat, seething, "Did it never occur to you that ya could've lived with me? Us, together? Would that've been so unbearable to you? Monomi, who still hasn't been paying attention to the trial but only Constantine, perked up when she heard about marriage. She took out a bottle of champaigne and raised Constantine into the air.

"Did you hear that, dear? Your dad is getting married!"

Monomi jumped with joy, but then shriveled in fear. "O-Oh no! Will I have to call Chamberlain-kun daddy..?"

She raised her eyes to Colin after his speech, before looking at her podium again. "S-So that was why you did it... At least th-they died a relatively peaceful death..." Aria fell silent, waiting for the trial to get over.

“I don’t know whether or not you’ll change your mind.” Colin sighs. “But I just want you to know, if you ever come to regret this send-off, then don’t worry about it. The Colin and Mary I’m taking to the grave has the good and the bad."

Colin looks down in resignation, as if he’s now coming to the part he was dreading. “Loyalty, chivalry, companionship, and unconditional love. Thank you for all of it.” He pets Constantine. “You were a true knight until the very end. I’m really glad I got to see you, just once. Don’t worry, you’ll get a master that makes you even more happy.”

He turns to the class. “In the event that I died, I always had a 20-page document prepared in Constantine’s collar. Written in it is everything he likes, dislikes, routines…well you’ll get it. Mary, I understand if you don’t want him. If that’s the case I think Raymond could have some use for him, or perhaps Cain.”

Colin was interrupted by a nudge to his leg. It was Constantine. “Heh, you idiot. I already told you none of this is your fault. It’s my fault if the subordinate makes a mistake, because everything you do is under my orders, got it? Now come on, you have a duty to uphold to someone else, Sir Constantine.”

Constantine wouldn’t move. In fact, he got even closer. Colin nodded. “Very well, I won’t deny your wishes: we’ll die together.” He turns to Monokuma. “I’m ready.

"As for the rest of you, as I said meet life with a little more enthusiasm. Make sure you cry for Mikael and well…it’d be nice if at least one of you cried for me too.” He read the mood of the room. “Ah that’s too much to ask I suppose.” He said, sadness in his eyes. “Well at the very least, I hope you don’t forget about me. I intend to stick in your heads for a long time, so don’t even try to wish me away."

Spoiler: Reign Reign Go Away
Colin and Constantine stand, hands tied, on a wooden stage. The wonderful Madame La Guilltoine sits in front of them. A crowd of Monokuma's boo and hiss.

"No more monarchy. Anarchy for life! No more monarchy. Anarchy for life! No more monarchy. Anarchy for life!"

The chant gets louder and louder.

A masked Monokuma lays Constantine just under the guillotine. Colin start sweating, his palms moistening the ropes. The executioner pulls the guillotine up and let's go!

Colin hears the swoosh, and dives into action. He kicks Constantine out at the last possible second. The crowd boos and throws rotten tomatoes at him. His wonderful outfit gets stained beyond belief. The executioner presses a button, and a trap door opens. The crowd jumps onto the stage.

Up close, they appear to be very filthy, many having bad teeth and bottles of booze. Even Colin can smell them. They push him down into the trap door. Colin lands with a scrunch. He appears unharmed, save a few broken ribs. He's in a trash pile. He looks up. Another trash heap falls on him.

He is filthy beyond recognition. He no longer looks like a prince, but a sewer rat. And from up above, an incredibly worn out javelin falls. It splits Colin's skull wide open. His body falls limp, never to move again.

Face red, Ohishi sighed again and closed her fan.

"...It all makes sense now.
I trust you enjoyed the sight?
My one gift to you."

She looked to Mikael's podium.

"What about Stanza?
Should we have him cremated?
We have no caskets."

Maribelle turned away, still at her podium but facing away. As the javelin fell, she flinched, and leaned back against her podium, sliding down first to her knees, then to her butt, rendering her dress a crumpled mess. She didn't scream, or cry. In fact, she didn't make much of a sound at all. She just stared at the ground. A marionette with her strings cut.

A few moments later, Constantine ran up, barked once, and started to tug at Maribelle's dress-- trying in vain to pull her to Colin. Constantine was clearly distressed, and started growling, trying to direct Maribelle towards where he felt he needed the help-- Colin's body.

But the debutante didn't move from where she was. In fact, it took nearly a half a minute before she seemed to realize Constantine was there.

"Oh..." she said in a monotone. "He left you behind, too? Irresponsible..."

She picked up Constantine, who, without his legs beneath him, began to wimper.

"There's nothin' for either of us back there, Connie." she said, gently hugging Constantine to her shoulder. She remained in her sitting position, unmoving.

Aria watched the execution in horror, unable to take her eyes away from it until it was over. After that, she looked at the rest of the room, speechless until-

Quote:

At the word 'cremation', Aria gripped the edges of her podium tightly, her knuckles turning white. "I-I suppose th-there is no choice other than cr-cremation." Her voice shook, and she looked like she wanted to get out of the trial room as soon as she could.
