She paused to go over what she'd just said, and then did her best to rephrase it in a more coherent manner. "The situation is bad, but I am coping sufficiently. You need not worry." She gave Bren a smile, yet her expression somehow remained unreadable.

He leans over to peer at the hallway, making sure there's no one else around. He then finally walks out of the room, closing the door behind himself.

"Look at me, even. We're here just talking and you haven't done anything to me, and yet I'm still terrified. I wouldn't even have opened the door if I wasn't confident I could fight you off. No offense meant."

"I remain calm because I force myself to be." Keri replied simply. "I am sorry that it is not likely the answer you sought, I recognise it is a solution that does not work for a majority of people. But you do bring up a good point. It has been mentioned before, of course, but perhaps there is real merit in enacting some security to try and prevent James and indeed others from performing any rash actions. I had hoped everyone could hold out long enough that it would not be a worry but I cannot account for the psyche of other individuals. Even should James have struck that deal with me there is no guarantee he will stand by his side of the bargain once the pressure is on."

After the long monologue Keri paused for a moment, before nodding and continuing in a more excited tone. "Yes! Let us go see Koichi, perhaps there is something that we can work out with him."

Alex made her way down to the 43rd floor and entered the gym. She then heads to the weight rack and begins picking up various weights and putting them back.

"Hmm... I don't think any of these ones will work..." She says to herself, as she continues feeling the different weights.

Eventually, night creeped up on the passengers. Unable or unwilling to settle on a solution and exhausted by the events of the day, they all locked their doors and went to sleep.

Many of them woke up around 6:00 A.M. Fortunately, it seemed that nothing had happened during the night. They quickly checked the amount of time left on the tablets they had received. Of course, it read 2:00... and it continued to count down.

"Ugh...come on now...Just need to keep on going..." The butler mumbles, trying to clean at a regular, steady pace. "Must...keep...cleaning..and smiling..." He says with a sigh.

Irene follows behind Florian, adjusting the silver headband on top of her head. She looks at the butler clean and her expression shifts to one of worry. "Are you sure you should keep cleaning? You probably are not in the best shape for it if you have just woken up."

Koichi arrived to the others, taking a deep breath.

"Good morning! I have spent the night pondering about our current events!"

Koichi clutched his chin. "It seems there is a democratic decision. We cannot resort to violence. Yet we cannot do nothing!"

He bowed down in front, seemingly having made a decision. "If we decide to do a sacrifice, how should we decide who?"

Raul enters the ballroom, looking like he hadn't gotten any sleep at all.

Upon hearing Koichi, he turns to him and says "...is there even anything to decide? I think there is only one clear answer to all of it, if the situation doesn't change soon."

He doesn't say more than that, though, and instead he walks around the room occasionally looking towards the door, as if he was waiting for someone to arrive.

Unlike many of the others, Keri seemed quite well-rested given the circumstances. However even she was showing signs of anguish, the muscles around her eyes tense as the deadline drew ever closer. "It is as Koichi says, with no alternative this is the only option available to us. However for the role of sacrifice there is nothing to decide because I cannot let another die in my place. More important I believe is the role of executioner, who must live with both the burden of the killing and the task of rescuing the remaining survivors. I do not think it disputable that James is not the man for the job." She said matter-of-factly. "I would nominate Raul, regretful as I am that he should be made to take the role."

"This is a symbol that General Tachibana bestowed upon me! He did so with complete confidence that I would have the guts and courage to protect others. Letting someone else die in my place would be nothing short of an insult."

Keri stared at Koichi for a few moments, eyes tensing up even more to the extent that she almost seemed to be glaring at him. But then she said "I cannot stand in the way of someone's duty. If that is how it will be, then that is how it will be. You are a good man."

Keri sighed. "You raise a fine point. I was rash before, there is much to discuss for this plan. I cannot so easily consent to the killing of another who is unwilling, but if one here is a danger to the rest then perhaps we need do what must be done."

"Good morning." Irene rubs her eyes. It appears that she did not suffer too much this night, even if a few indicators of stress are present. Her attitude remains unchanging.

She puts a hand to her chin in thought. "I do not know what we could do. I have spent most of the night attempting to come up with a plan, and I have had no luck whatsoever. If there is any semblance of a plan we have, as much as it hurts me to say this, it is the plan that involves a sacrifice. Unfortunately, it is not like we could take over the blimp either." Irene crosses her arms. "I suppose it could be possible if we are irreplaceable, but it is a distant hope."

Suddenly, everyone’s discussions are interrupted by a loud buzzer blasting out of their tablets, sounding almost like a warning siren. They quickly turn the tablets on and notice that the screen now displays “00:00.”

The countdown had ended.

Quickly the screen flickers and shows a single feed of a humble suburban home. Though everyone recognized it as one of the many houses they had seen earlier, there were no particularly distinguishing features about it.

BOOM

The door and walls explode outward, fiery bits of rubble getting everywhere. Melted furniture sprawls out across the lawn, black soot already coating the insides. A small river of tarry liquid seeps from the shattered remains of the home, turning the once verdant lawn inky black. Anyone in it must have had their skin vaporized.

Many regret their decision to have seen it. Any doubts regarding the veracity of Otto’s threats go up in smoke.

Suddenly, the timer starts up again at 24:00, as if the gruesome explosion hadn’t even happened. Everyone’s thoughts were the same: next time, two bombs would go off.

"I believe this simply shows that we must come up with something very soon. We cannot keep staring at the tablet screens, and it would not be ideal for innocents to die so that we can live. At the same time, I am not quite sure what we can do. But there must be something."

Having held his silence for quite some time, he had thought of what to do, not sure of a solution. And then, he had watched someone's house be blown to smithereens, the denizens inside sealed to their untimely fate. He can only stare at the screen, his eyes widened in complete shock, and his face having lost its color. "Ay dios mio... they... t-they actually did it..."
