Emma thought for a bit before turning to the others. "Given the level of research that has gone into Blight...I think we would have a chance to be cured if we made it to a proper facility, yes. But..." She hesitated for a moment. "The chance of infecting others before we receive treatment is quite high. Specially since we don't know where we are or if there are any hospitals nearby."

She turned to face Ghost. "Right now, I think actually curing someone would be for the best. Any plans that involve someone getting out while still infected just seem too risky."

"Very well", Albert replies drily. "I'm in favour of using it completely too. No problem with that, I suppose."

"I... can't make this decision myself. I'm not even infected, it's not my place," Ghost said, stepping back from the vaccines. "No matter the outcome, it ends the same way for me, I think. We should put it to a vote. When we do, we can think about who might get the vaccines later; for now we should just choose between A) committing to saving the few or B) gambling to save the many."

Bradley peeked into the room seeing that Helios had returned "Y-you're all still alive!" he gasped wiping some tears from his eyes as a grin broke out across his face "That's awesome!" he cheered whisking Einstein up into a joyful hug as he ran around the room laughing.

Eventually he began to slow to a halt, looking across everyone's faces. "Why does everyone look so sad? It's a good thing right? Or...do we not get a vaccine because no=one died?" he asked horrified.

"We got two of them right there, kid", Albert elucidates. "Thing is though, if we use them partially, we'll still get a few more hours to live regardless, so we're debating on what the more rational choice is here. ...Well, not really, considering that most everyone wants to use them completely."

“...Sunshine should give a vaccine to Bradley and Violet,” Teddy said quietly. “Then we’ll all be in the same boat of needing one adult vaccine. And if someone gets a child vaccine, they can trade.

“Sunshine had nothing to gain from playing the game. We voted him in, but... he had a chance to get out, and shot anyway. He should decide what we do.”

After a pause, Teddy added with a sigh, “Of course, if he’s the bastard that kidnapped us, he would’ve known it was fake.”

"Oh..." Bradley said placing Einstein down on the table as he thought "Well...I'm happy you are all still alive at least but we should probably use them now right? Didn't Miss Null say something about there not being any others? That it was incurable except for the things in this place? If we get out of here then we'd just die slower."

"You're suggesting that we just give them the vaccines, not administer them, right?" Helios asked, "Cause that's actually not a terrible idea. There's really no advantage to using the vaccines now, other than being in less pain later, I suppose. And we can trust the two of them to not just inject themselves, for obvious reasons."

"...Ah, but wait! Didn't they find another key in the library?" Ghost said, turning towards the ones in that group. "With '8' on it? Maybe that's for another trial? This one was '5'."

Violet walked in. "Um...what's going on? I sorta spaced out and..." She counted everyone in the room. "Everyone lived? That's good. Can someone just explain to me what's going on? Who gets the vaccines?"

Emma seemed confused by Null's response. "Were we supposed to choose someone else if we wanted to go through the other doors...?"

She hears Ghost and turns to him before she can ask more. "Ah right, we did. I think Midge has it. We didn't find anything to use it on though...did the garden group find any locked doors or anything like that?"

"Yeah I got the key..."

Midge shows the 8 key to the others.

"Also there's no doubt in my mind that if we leave this place we're just going to kill everyone. We should just choose who to vaccinate and hope for the best."

"Also, if we wait too long before using the vaccines, the symptoms will only get worse in the meantime. The damage might be permanent," Ghost said uncomfortably. "Using a vaccine with only an hour to go doesn't seem like a good idea to me. If we're using them, we should use them as soon as they're ready."

“FUCK!” Teddy shouted, and kicked a wall. “Is this really all we’re gonna fucking get?”

Calming down a little, he spoke: “...We could try to split the difference. Give one person the vaccine, and split the other among everyone else. That one person can then go get help. It’s pretty risky, but... it might be our best shot to save all of us without fucking up the whole world.

“In the meantime, we might as well try the 8 key on a the armory. Best case, we get more vaccines. Worst case, we just re-lock it.

“...and absolute worst case, the issue of who gets the vaccines resolves itself.”

Bradley sighed "I don't think we should leave if we're infected. I don't think there will be more medicine out there. Best just to either hold out for more medicine in another trial or cure someone right now." he tapped the table idly "I mean we know there's at least a kids cure out there somewhere? At least one...so there must be more we can get."

“That’s true...” Teddy considered. “Bah. I still say give one to Bradley and Violet for now. Then let’s search and see if we really can’t find more vaccines or another trial. It just seems too risky to use the vaccines right now, and especially spread out over everyone.”

[Ok some clarification might be needed. Just vote yay or nay to Adriana's plan and then you can deal with the other details after.

Also for ALL group voting decisions (unless specified otherwise) the vote weights are the same (adults-1, children-1.5)]

Bradley frowned the pulsing of his poisoned body reminding him of the pressing need to make a decision. "Well...I vote we use them on myself and Violet."

"If all the future vaccines are like this I don't think anyone would be able to steal some cures and we'll all be on more equal footing this way." He said brightly with a slight, icky cough at the end.

"Uh okay. Plus using the partial vaccines on Bradley and Violet will help them stay alive longer anyway, so sounds good to me."

Midge nods, assured in the plan.

"It's the only right plan, really."

"Um... n-not to be pessimistic, but, if we don't find a single other vaccine, then everyone dies with that plan," Ghost said meekly. "Not that I don't want Bradley and Violet cured, but... if the vaccines were used on two adults, or both on one child, we would at least have guaranteed survivors."

"Also, if we do find child vaccines later then these adult ones will have gone to waste," they added.

"Argh, this is getting ridiculous!" Helios exclaimed, "We're not even supposed to vote on this yet! Let's just leave the borderline suicidal plans for later and deal with the current issue. Specifically, an aye or nay to the plan of leaving after partially-injecting ourselves."

Helios silently put in his vote.

“Alright. Let’s just forget about Adriana’s plan then.” Teddy nodded. “Let’s focus on finding the vaccines.”

“So are me and Violet getting the vaccines?” Bradley asked.

“I’ll...just hold onto them for now.” Ghost decided. “There’s no immediacy until we actually know about a second trial. We can sort out who gets the vaccines later, and you can trust me with them since I can’t use them.”

It was clear not everybody was comfortable with Ghost’s decision but the look on his face probably said ‘tough toenails’.

“Alright.” Midge said. “I think I know where the trial is.”

***

The library was...impressive to say the least. There were massive bookcases that spanned floor to ceiling, with a movable stepladder to facilitate grabbing the ones neat the top. There was also a spiral staircase leading to an upper section, with even more books.

The first floor had a lounge area with reclining chairs and tableside desks. A coffee table was there too.

“Whoa!” Bradley shouted. “This place is...huge!” The smile on his face was enormous.

“Do you like reading, Bradley?” Midge asked.

“Yeah! A lot!”

“That’s nice. All the smart kids read.” She smiled.

“Ahem.”

Midge looked back at Helios with scorn. “Right. The reason we’re here.”

She pointed to one of the overturned shelves: SONATA CAROLS was written on the exposed back.

“Is that like...Santa Claus?” Teddy asked.

“It’s another anagram.” Emma said. “We never solved this one...I get the feeling it’s not in English.”

“Alright.” Teddy nodded. “Here’s the plan. Think about the anagram, but turn over every shelf in the meantime. One of these books could lead to a secret passage or something.”

“Do you see how many books are here?!” Violet yelled. “We didn’t even bother!”

“It’s a lot of work for three people, it’s better with nine. Anyway, we don’t have much of a choice so whatever. Get to it.”

[Meta-translation: I haven’t written the next post yet but you can still think about the anagram in the meantime. If you don’t get it, it doesn’t matter]

"Anagrams are hard enough already, but this one isn't even in English?" Ghost cried, busying themselves with books as directed. "There weren't any clues that might say what language we're looking for?" they asked the library group.

"It's Italian." Adriana answered, staring at the anagram and thinking deeply.

"Oh, how do you know?" Ghost asked.

"I speak Italian, among others. I guess it could be Spanish but I'm pretty sure it's Italian. I need more time to figure it out."

Midge cocks her head next to a pile of books in thought, "La Cosa Nostra?"

"It's the name of the Sicilian mob, it's the best I could come up with," she says passively, turning back to her work.

"I've suspected that we might be on the Mediterranean coast, so maybe they have something to do with our situation."
