"That makes absolutely no sense and would be inconsistent with body tallies. Maybe he has been poisoned instead?"

Uncle Billy dashed out of the room and into the main foyer. He spotted Briggs and shouted at him from the balcony.

"Hey, Bricks! I know you busy mourning, but we have question. Have you poisoned anyone lately?"

Robin swiveled to look at Lucine, astonished. "So, Twilip was killed by witches, too? Then... Mickey, you must be right. I was - wrong about Vincent." She put her face in her hands.

"Whiny investigate you and get exact same info as from Jamie. That you poison people!" Billy replied.

He then teleported back to the other room just in time to be sad that he probably didn't accomplish anything. Then he went back to the foyer to await Briggs's response.

Briggs got up, gently setting Allister's body down. His eyes were a bit red and swollen, and he took some time to process what Billy said. After a pause, Briggs brought a cigarette to his mouth.

"...Oh, dear. I was investigated? Does this mean my cover was blown?"

Briggs sighed, taking some time to think. "...Tch. What a shame. This was my longest family."

"My 'ability' if we are calling them that is simply to investigate. Grandmother taught me very well, so I can easily tell when someone was killed with magic. I investigated aunt Twilip and was able to find out she was most definitely killed with magic."

"... Incidentally, last night I tried to investigate uncle Basil, but it seems I was slightly off when predicting when he would be targeted..."

Shakily, Robin replied, "That makes sense. If - if Vincent was innocent, then that would mean that he was telling the truth about his ability. And that would mean - that Mickey's a witch. I don't think I believe that."

"So Briggs, do you mind explaining how your skills differ from those of James?" Wyn asks, crossing her arms. "It would be strange if both of you had the exact same abilities."

"Wait. So..." Robin crossed her arms. "Billy, when you visited Briggs, he - he poisoned you instead of his intended victim. So you might not have been killed by a witch after all?"

She glanced at Bertram. "Do you remember who visited you that night? The night Billy died, I mean?"

Zachary had been flipping through the strange book he found looking for clues, also trying to keep up with all the stuff that was happening.

"But wait, didn't you target Twilip with your action, Billy?" Zach asked, "Oh wait, I guess that'd still make sense if you redirected the first target of her action onto you, meaning when she targeted Lucine, Lucine would've targeted Twilip, which I guess would've returned a result, but since it didn't . . . I really have no idea. Point is, I thought you visited Twilip. Right?"

"Well, I suppose there's no more hiding it," Briggs sighed, scratching his head at those who came to him. He took one final puff from his cigarette before tossing it on the ground, putting it out with his foot and soiling the floor. "It's been so long here that I've forgotten why I convinced Miss Gloria to hire me in the first place."

Briggs cracked his neck, searching for a way to phrase his abilities.

"...I've always loved vulnerable, weak, and morally corrupt rich families like you Moonviews. From the first day, you all fit the bill perfectly. Infiltrating this family and working from the inside out was one of the easiest jobs ever."

He leaned against the wall, looking up at the ceiling.

"Under normal circumstances, I think I would have left this job earlier. But..."

He glanced at Allister's body before continuing. "...Well, either way. With Sir Archer and the boy dead, I have no reason to stay here any longer. Might as well dig my grave while I can still hold the shovel."

Briggs held up a finger. "I have been stealing from your family ever since the day I arrived. Miss Gloria's wealth? Much of it has been redirected to me. Imagine my joy when the Moonviews would all come together. What a perfect chance for a thief like me to profit. As for this...situation, it appears I can steal more than just material. I can steal who you are."

He let out a slight glare. "I visited James last night and stole his power. I wasn't going to let him poison Sir Archer or the boy. Under normal circumstances, I would think that James' power would be stripped away from him completely. Perhaps he would be convinced to steal another role himself."

"... I see," Asher said in response to Briggs, having been mostly silent because his writer was eating at a restaurant. "... So you can outright steal abilities, while Twilip can only copy them... Can't say I agree with the whole thievery aspect, but most of this family doesn't deserve it anyway, so... yeah."

He looked at Briggs with a stoic expression, but his gray eyes looked pained.

"... Have you stolen anyone else's abilities other than James?"

"According to the story, it looks like Billy redirected my visit to him. Well, assuming James was corrupted with the power of a thief, he may have stolen a role for himself. But, unfortunately, he's dead. So who knows."

Wyn tuts and shakes her head in disgust. "Ugh, a petty thief. Could you not have made a living in a more..." She glances away momentarily. "...honorable way?"

"Anyways, I suppose that explains my results. Oh, but how many people have had their abilities stolen, then? Is this something that could cause a problem for us?"

"Speak for yourself, sugar queen. I've felt horrible for your poor 'children' every day since I heard about the marriage. As for your second question...who knows? I have no idea if James stole a role or not. I'm guessing he did, and the person's role he stole doesn't know it yet."

'Mickey' seemed to be ignoring all the new info. He got the distinct feeling that he fell out of being the center of attention, and wanted to get it back.

"Father," He said in a high-pitched mocking voice that sounded a bit like Lucine's before continuing normally, "do you remember when you picked me up at jail my 14th birthday? You told me that being the head of the family might be too much pressure for me. But if I applied myself I could still do something respectable. Like go to med school?"

Despite his feelings over his father dying, Asher couldn't help but crack a veeeery tiny smirk at Briggs's roast of Wyn. He'd add in, but there were more pressing matters at hand.

"I see. Hmm... If James stole someone's ability, would they, in turn, need to steal someone else's ability? As in, would it cause a sort of... chain reaction, so to speak?"

Bertram was still reeling from learning that Briggs had been stealing from his family all this time, but Mickey's antics were enough to snap him out of it. He turned to glare at his former son. "...I remember. What of it?"

"Guess so, kid. Wow, doesn't that just sound like such fun?"

Briggs adjusted his hair before facing the others. "Well, I guess I should also say, as shitty as my abilities are, I'm still on your side. If you all have a job for me, hit me up. I...I want to avenge my comrades."

He awkwardly coughed.

"Anyways, now that you all know I'm a thief, I guess I should be on the run, huh?"

Briggs bumped aggressively into Bertram. What did he steal??

"Whooops. See you later, Moonviews. Just call me if you need me like normal. I'll be around."

He dashed over to Allister's body, giving him one more final look, before escaping somewhere around the house.

“Well I did you one better. I didn’t need a fancy piece of paper to tell me what I could do. I learned from the mountains and the leaves, the stars, and the dirt. I learned to direct the energy of the universe to the souls of the afflicted.” He laughed. “I knew you never thought I could do med school, and I did something one hundred times harder. And I even saved Uncle Zap with what I learned! Probably!”

"Tch. I was only going to threaten him," Bertram replied irritably. Briggs was already long gone anyway. "Don't you see? He's been lying from us this whole time! He betrayed mother's trust in him! What lies must he have told her to even get hired in the first place?"

"Um. The - the only people who haven't told us what they can do yet are Violet, Asher, and Jacqueline. I think." She cleared her throat. "And all three of them died in the first two nights last time this all happened. I would think that one of them was a witch sacrifice." Her brow furrowed. "Because. If the witches knew we would be reliving this week, they could throw our suspicion off of them by dying. If - that makes sense."

“Hmmm...” Uncle Billy ribbed his forehead. “I have funny hunch about Jacklin skills. I think if she watch people and see if they visited by others. So like Bazel in reverse. Is this true?” He turned to the woman expectantly.

“I don’t remember her saying much about what she actually did with role though. Part of me wants to say this clue she a witch in disguise, but I just not really get those vines from her. She such nice lady.”

“We should probably hear from Asser and Bylet,” he added, glancing towards the kids. His gaze bored into their souls.

Jacqueline jumped from her daze, staring at Billy with a sudden awkward smile. Ah. She totally wasn't about to pass out. No no, you've got that wrong.

"Oh! My ability!" She chuckled softly. "I would have mentioned it sooner if I were asked. I didn't think it was of much use at the time. Yes, you are quite correct. I am able to target someone and see who visits them." She nodded kindly.

"I appreciate you saying that, Billy, darling. I have mostly been visiting people lately to either ask questions or make sure they are alright. However, I did visit Violet last night. Simply because I had a gut feeling something was . . . off."

"... Do I have to?" Asher replied to Billy, backing away from him just a bit due to that soul-piercing gaze. He looked around at the others and let out a small sigh, rubbing his nose. "... Alright, fine. Since everyone else is doing it, I may as well too so I can fit in."

"I was planning to fake my own death. Before you get on my case about being a zombie in that story, there's a difference between me actually dying and being reanimated by necromancy or something and me faking my death and hiding elsewhere in the manor. That way, I would divert attention from myself while I listened in on everyone else, gathering info and all that. And after that was all said and done... I planned to take matter into my own hands and kill someone who I believed to be a witch, based on what I know and have recorded down. I wanted to wait at least until the third twilight to kill, though. I wouldn't like doing it, but we've already killed Vincent, so our hands are already bloodied."

He let out a small sigh and tapped his fingers on his cane.

"I tried to fake my death last night, but... for some reason, I was unable to. I'm not sure why. Maybe someone blocked me from doing so, maybe I had my role stolen, who knows."

"What a curious talent." Lucine said. "Can you only fake your own death, or were you behind uncle Basil's fake out in the story?"
