"... W-we want to know who you're planning to poison." Lucine stuttered, trying to compose herself. "If I investigate one of your targets, I may be able to tell if you are a witch or a mortal."

"Why..! You think I would dare kill another one of you absolutely deplorable Moonviews, who undoubtedly killed the boy and Sir Archer, right after I revealed I poisoned Asher for perfectly logical reasons and got suspected for it?"

Briggs feigned offense, bringing a hand to his mouth. But really, he was just lighting another cigarette.

"...Well, you're right. I'm poisoning Jackie."

"Your cooperation is very much appreciated, Mr. Briggs. Very well then, should I investigate mother? Or will we let Asher die in her place?" Lucine asked, not really putting much weight into either choice.

"...I do find it unnerving how you are showing no concern for your mother," Briggs nodded, spreading secondhand smoke all over the creepy thirteen year old child. "But I suppose considering your lineage, it shouldn't be much of a surprise."

"Mother will be happy in the golden land." Lucine answered, trying to wave away the smoke. "... That's what grandmother always told me. Parting may be painful, but in the end, we will all be together. I doubt I will survive the storm anyways..."

"What a deep sentiment," Briggs said, rolling his eyes. "Anyways, if that's all you need me, for, I'm out. Asher's got some fun toys I get to play with."

With that, Briggs vanished. Like a spirit. Witchcraft???????

"This is preposterous!" Bertram exclaimed, despite having just suggested they do the same to Asher. "Jackie's not a witch, you won't gain anything from this! Well, nothing except my ire. I won't stand for it!"

Robin clung to her friend like she would a life raft in a storm at sea. Jackie was speaking, but Robin couldn't hear it. Her voice was so far away. Everything was so far away. Every breath was a desperate struggle for air. Even though Jackie's body shielded Robin from the sight, Wyn's body was all she could see.

Her own rushing blood roared in Robin's ears, wretched, worthless thing.

"I-I..." she choked out. "I did this." The dam broke, and she had her voice again, and she began howling into Jackie's shoulder, into the oblivion. "I did this...!"

Jacqueline's expression shifted into a pained solemn frown, clutching on to Robin to give as much comfort as she could. A confirmed little 'I'm here' squeeze. "Robin, you did not do this, my dear. If anything, it's my fault for not doing anything to convince everyone that I was a witch . . . to perhaps save Wyn's life. She did not deserve to die like this . . . and no one deserved to witness it either. Everything is going to be okay, I assure you. I will be here to help you through the ups and downs . . . . and I know for certain that Zachary will too. You are not alone, darling. You have us to help you. You do not have to be afraid. Let those worries drain away . . . let them only become a distant memory, a foggy passing storm, the darkness of night only following into sunlight." She spoke softly, rocking her friend back and forth. "There's nothing anyone could have done . . . and therefore, you have nothing to feel guilty for. Wyn is up in the Golden Land with Basil. She'll be happier there. She does not have to feel anymore pain." She smiled sadly as she looked up at the sky, feeling the rain drip upon her saddened face. "It will all pass . . . and eventually, things will get better. I know they will."

Robin continued to weep in Jackie's arms, even as her voice became hoarse from the strain. She said nothing else. She simply allowed herself to be comforted and cradled, almost like a child. Eventually, her crying petered out, though her breaths still came in shaking gasps.

"Jackie is most certainly not a witch. I can't say the same for Asher," Bertram insisted stubbornly. "If he really is a witch then it's two birds with one stone, I say." Not like his words would make any difference without Briggs there.

"Ah, but who says that? I thought I had convincing arguments for the former." Violet shrugs. "I don't blame you for intentionally not listening, though. I'm familiar with hanging on by the last thread."

"It'll take more than that to convince me to let my own wife get poisoned," Bertram shot back, realising he was being hypocritical but not wanting to back down. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'd best go find her. If she keeps an eye out for that damned thief, maybe we won't need to have this discussion at all."

He quickly searched around the manor, before spotting Jackie with Robin outside. He decided to tactfully hang back for the moment, not wanting to interrupt.

Jacqueline gave a gentle smile, rubbing the other's back to comfort her. "It's alright, dear. I promise everything is going to be alright. Why don't we go back inside and get cleaned up? I'll make you some tea. How does that sound?" She'd help Robin up to her feet as she spoke, guiding her along as she went to make her way back inside. But . . .

Jacqueline stopped as she seemed to spot Bertram. She gave him a kind smile, still holding on to Robin. "Hello, love. I needed to tend to Robin for a moment. Is everything alright?"

Robin let Jackie lead her back toward shelter. When they stopped just outside, it took her a moment to realize that Bertram was there.

Self-consciously, Robin ducked her head. "Um. E-excuse me," she murmured, and she shrugged Jackie's arm off of her shoulder and tried to move past Bertram to get inside.

"Er, yes, everything's fine," Bertram replied haltingly, looking aside at the rain-soaked scenery. How do you go about telling someone it might be their last night on Earth? Bertram decided he simply wouldn't: at least then Jackie could stay happy. As happy as anyone could in this situation, at least. "You should both get in out of the cold. I'll have- I'll make some tea." He'd almost on-habit said he'd have a servant make the tea, but Archer and Allister were gone and Briggs certainly wasn't going to follow orders anymore. "Robin, how about you?"

Her smile would brighten, tossing some of her dripping wet hair off her shoulder. "No no, darling. I'll make the tea. You relax, okay? Both of you should relax." She nodded.

The Third Twilight

[THEME MUSIC]

The dark grey light of dawn creeps behind the storm clouds. It's the morning at Moonview Manor.

Throughout the property, the remaining family members speak in hushed tones to one another.

They're all trying to find the witches, or at least what's remaining of them. Had they really found the golden witch, or were they still out there?

All eleven of them go about secret business, having agreed on what they would do, and their shadows dance across the manor walls.

* * *

It's been six hours since the death of Wyn Moonview. A small group of people gather by the front door to the house, nestled under umbrellas.

At some point, a body had appeared there, silently, without a single clue as to where it came from

Asher is there, an uncomfortably wide smile is on his face, in a crumpled heap. His head is cracked, with blood sitting in translucent pools around his head. His lips are blue with death.

Asher isn't the only person missing. As much as people want to stop and check the body closer, Lucine urges them to move on to find the others.

Bertram solemnly nods, and Mickey leads the way back inside with his father and sister. Behind those three is Violet, who looks at Asher's body with something between pity and regret. Maurice and Zachary make their way behind them. Slinking very far behind all of them is Briggs.

They search the inside of the mansion, but it's not long until they find something; in the library, one of the bookshelves looks like it's been dragged away from the wall somehow. Painted on the front of it, over the books, is a big red circle with a cross in the center and all kinds of runes filling in the spaces. The red paint drips like blood.

Interested, Bertram and Zachary immediately go to attempt to pull on it. Zachary is fully panicking now that Robin has been missing for so long.

They bookshelf glides away from the wall, opening a secret passage upward to an upper floor of the house. Bertram makes no comment of the passage being in his home. Briggs doesn't say a word either.

Mickey is the first one at the top of the staircase entering a small room in the attic. He immediately drops to his hands and knees.

[SCENE MUSIC]

It's a study, with a single light, a single desk, and a little window. Blood drips from the surface of the desk onto the floor. Robin Moonview is laying face down in a pool of her own blood, seemingly because she is missing her own jaw.

As they move further in, they notice two pairs of feet behind the desk.

They move to the other side of the desk and see Billy's throat has been cut. His cheerful eyes stare blankly at the ceiling. It's very strange seeing him so blankly dead.

Next to them is Jacqueline, whose head is bleeding, apparently from hitting the corner of the desk quite hard. She is also dead.

Staring at the massacre, nobody can breathe. The atmosphere of the room is so choking and oppressive.

It can't last forever though, someone has to break it up.

While 'Mickey' was shocked by the presence of the corpses, his mind immediately went back to his own predicament. "...fuck me."

In a rush of blood to the head, Bertram whipped his gun out and pointed it at Briggs. His hand was clenched so tightly over the grip that it might leave bruises; it took a lot of restraint to do what he did next. He threw the gun down at the floor, where it bounced off with a thud that reverberated around the small study. "Someone take that before I change my mind. I don't trust myself to follow along with a majority vote right now," he growled, before turning heel away from the others. His shoulders were shaking, and his breathing grew heavy; presumably he wouldn't be capable of talking any more just yet.

"More than one, it seems. Brother is remarkable: He is a truly endless source of disappointment." Lucine elucidated. "Though you, Mr. Briggs, kept your word. Mother was not killed by witches."

She went over to collect her father's gun, which looked very out of place in her hands. She lightly dabbed her eyes a few times. "... No tears. Hm. I broke my promise..."

'Mickey' was still on his knees by his mother's corpse, lifting her head slightly to feel her hair before putting it down. As the commotion went on behind him, he weakly said to his father "... if he isn't a witch, it would be a bad idea. You can kill him when we get off this island. When this game is over."

"...Oh, my. Did I upset you?" Briggs asked, looking only a little intimidated. Bertram's emotional response wasn't quite a surprise, however.

Briggs smiled at Lucine. "It appears my innocence is proven. Thank you, child. As for you Bertram, you'd best put that gun down, now."

'Mickey' weakly stood up, addressing everyone. "I visited Asher last night. I nearly went for Mama. I thought it over and over but... it looks like it wouldn't have made a difference. I know all you got is my word. But my word is the truth."

"M-Mickey! What is it? What hap-" Zach began to ask, stopped cold mid-sentence by the gruesome scene in front of him. His eyes immediately fixated on the body slumped over the desk. No. It can't be. Not again!

"Robin!" Zach ran for a closer look, and that's when he noticed Jacqueline's and Billy's bodies brutally strewn about the small room. He went up to Robin's body and attempted to lift it up. "Robin, wake up, dear, it's going to be alri-Grk!" He wasn't at all prepared for the horrifying image he'd see. His mind immediately flashed back to the description of his own body in the story. The sight was too much for him. He retched and immediately collapsed into a heap. Robin's corpse made an unceremonious thump on the desk.

She was dead.

Again.

The nightmare was repeating itself.

Zach's mind simply stopped short. That's all it could manage to do at a time like this. There would be no crying. No weeping. No sobbing. There would just be silence. Nothing. Emptiness.

"Your word is cheap, brother." Lucine said, raising the gun to point at him in a display of very lackluster trigger discipline. "We will listen to everyone's testimony for last night, execute you, and move on. One more witch down..."

“It could’ve been Billy or Robin.” He immediately theorized. “And then they killed themselves so they wouldn’t have to face questions about it. Or Vi could be lying about her ability.”

A piece of paper could be seen sticking up out of one of Zach's back pockets. If someone were to spot it, open it up, and read it, it would say the following:

"To whoever finds this,

I have a bad feeling about what is going to happen tonight, so I am writing this note in case I become indisposed and therefore cannot reveal my results normally."

The handwriting from this point on is rather shaky. It seems Zach was uncomfortable or otherwise hesitant about the next paragraph.

"I decided to check on Wyn and Basil. If Wyn really was a witch, I thought, then there should be some trace of her visit. I am regretful to report that neither party has visited the other. I do not want to muddle these results with theories on why this could be the case if Wyn is the Golden Witch; the simplest reasoning is that she is not. As this is a formal affidavit, I will refrain from stating my personal opinions on these matters. I am sorry I could not be of more use.

Respectfully,
Zachary Moonview"

Maurice was repulsed by the sight of the corpses, wincing as he saw them. He stayed to the back as everyone started yelling and collapsing. As things started to quieten down, he seemed to calm down somewhat. Seeing Zachary collapse, he noticed the paper sticking out of the pocket. "What's this, then?" He opened it up and read it aloud for everyone to hear. How convenient!

"I see..." He murmured, putting it down. "Well, I don't think Wyn could be the Golden Witch right now, though she could still be a witch. Still, we have more important matters at hand. Such as..." He looked at Asher's corpse (which wasn't there but he's just that GOOD), then back up to Mickey, who was still being held up at gunpoint. "The obvious question is how Asher died if you claimed to have visited him. If you are telling the truth, then that means Asher faked his death and is now planning to kill someone else. Or perhaps he already has", he added, looking at Billy and Robin's corpses. "If you're lying, then you're most likely aligned with the witches and we have no reason to keep you alive."

"But let's look at the choices we have at the moment, yes? Who do we have left?" He looked around. "I think we can eliminate Bertram and Zachary for now. And unless both Lucine and Briggs are both witches colluding with each other, I think we can eliminate them. Which leaves us with me- who I know to be innocent- and then Violet and Mickey. Violet is still quite suspicious due to her continuing to claim to not have a talent, but the fact that Mickey doesn't seem to have saved Asher is suspicious. And even if he's innocent, it's not as though Asher is anywhere to be found... So really he still seems to be our best bet at the moment, I'm afraid. And if not him, then I suggest we put the pressure on Violet to see if she has changed her mind, but considering how stubborn she was earlier I doubt much will change." He sighed.

Violet had stayed behind for just a little more. It's clear that she had been preparing for this, yet, a few tears stream down her cheeks anyway. She decides to kneel down for a second, perhaps taking a closer look or simply praying. Taking a deep breath, she then stands up and follows behind the others, albeit she'd be a little late.

Just as Maurice finishes talking, Violet speaks up, "I -- made a promise," She adds, her voice creaking a bit, "That, no matter what, I would see you dead if you failed to save my brother, Mickey. I'm going to vote for you and I can only hope this is as quick as possible before I do it myself." Her expression is certainly one of open disgust at this point.

Lucine snatched the paper from Zachary's back pocket and read it aloud to everyone so we can be on the same page.

"... I just realized, we do not have much testimony to collect. Unless father has any visitors to report, or Violet and uncle Maurice decide to tell us what they actually did last night, we no longer have anything to discuss." she said, putting a hand on her chin. Not the hand with the gun, thankfully.

"I will vote for brother, obviously. If the rest of you truly have nothing to report, I suggest you do the same."

Hearing Lucine address him, Bertram wiped his eyes and turned around. He immediately saw that the 13 year-old girl was waving a gun around and no-one was stopping her, so he ran over to snatch it from her hand. "Maybe it's best if I hang into this after all," he said with a strained smile, putting it into his pocket. He then faced the others, expression immediately dropping. "Lucine is right, I think it's high time you came clean, Maurice," he said coldly. By focusing on the task at hand he could numb the pain for a while; the same advice he'd offered his daughter the day before. "What were you up to last night?"
