"We don't have the time to find one, Taikong, and you mean too much to me for me to just watch you die!" Mei shouts, "This is the one thing I can do. The one thing I can push myself to commit to, and it's because of you. So... please."

0:10... 0:09... 0:08...

“I’m serious, Taikong. You have to go.”

Mei crouches on the floor, staring at Taikong with resolve in her eyes.

Taikong glances at the door, a deep abyss carved in a stone wall right behind him.

“Mei, I’m not leaving you here. I can’t!”

0:07... 0:06... 0:05...

“Don’t you get it?” she shouts. “If we leave together, we’ll both die! The world needs you, Taikong. Not me.”

“But I need you, Mei! And so do all the people you can save.”

Taikong reaches a hand out.

“We can make it! Just come with me!”

0:04... 0:03...

“Seriously, get the fuck out of here!”

0:02...

“Not without you!”

0:01...

“Then at least close your eyes.”

0:00...

Mei throws herself over the LCD, casting the room in darkness until a blaze of bright orange light springs from the bomb. It surges beneath her, pounding against her flesh like a dragon in a cage, slowly caking it in ash.

Taikong screams in despair as it burns a hole through her chest. He turns and sprints through the door. Though he darkness on the other side seems to suck him deeper and deeper, he makes it through the corridor and into the room where Amethyst is waiting. He collapses in a heap on the floor.

The ground above the group's head shakes like the snores of a sleeping dragon, but it seems like it won't wake up. Dust and small pieces of rubble fall to the floor, and cans of food vibrate in their shelves. But the bunker holds together. Mei's sacrifice may have saved them.

Sun Taikong didn't say anything intelligible for a while. He was having a complete breakdown, barely moving from his position on the floor.

All of a sudden his head whipped up and around, finding Amethyst. "Why do you of all people get to live when she doesn't?" he sobbed, before abruptly returning to his own private grief. The moment had come from nowhere and went away just as quickly.

Amethyst didn't have an answer. She hugged her knees tightly and sat there on the floor, staring at the device she used to cause the bombing of the sun temple. "... I don't know. Maybe I won't..."

Spoiler: 1. Armory
Sunny emerges from the vent with his family as the entire facility seems to collapse around them.

“Right over there!” he shouts, “Uncle Mao was showing it to me earlier!”

The group looks in the direction of his finger to the large tank parked in the Armory.

“Sunny, please,” Suyin says, “This isn’t the time for jokes.”

“No, really!” Sunny replies, “That key isn’t meant for a door! It’s the ignition key for this tank!”

“You’re kidding,” Juanli replies.

“No, really! Come on, climb inside! Quick!”

Sunny climbs on top of the tank and opens the hatch in its roof. He raises it up, allowing Suyin to climb inside. She sits down in the back, against the interior wall of the tank, as Juanli climbs in and takes the captain’s seat. Sunny follows her down, closing the door and sitting in her lap.

Juanli stares incredulously at the tank’s controls. She eventually spots the keyhole and pulls out the Earth Key. She plunges it into the keyhole and turns it. The tank quickly starts up, and several lights on the display turn on.

“I-I don’t know how to drive this thing!” Juanli shouts.

“Come on, Mama! It can’t be that different from driving a car…and you’ll get to be like an awesome soldier!”

“Just drive, sis,” Suyin snaps, “Before I bleed out over here.”

Juanli peers through the window at the large shutter blocking the only exit from the room.

“B-But the shutter’s closed! How are we supposed to get out?”

Sunny turns and glares at Juanli.

“Mama!” he shouts, “We have a tank!”

Spoiler: 2. Outside
BOOM!

On the outside of the temple, a large iron shutter bursts to pieces and scatters across the scorched yard. Out of the hole where it used to be rolls a large camouflaged tank. It rumbles across the grass, pivoting its head around the palace’s walled exterior and then turning wide on its tread.

“Woohoo!” Sunny shouts, pumping his fists in the air. “That was awesome, Mama!”

“Yes, I suppose it was,” Juanli says, laughing. “Now we just need to find an exit. But all I see are these walls…”

“I think we’re at the back of the temple,” Suyin says, craning her neck to look out the window. “There should be a big gate on the other side.”

“Let’s go take a look then.”

Juanli pulls one lever back and another forward. The massive tank awkwardly turns and roars back toward the front gate, passing by the side of the temple.

Sunny presses his hands against the window, watching in concern as curls of black smoke rise from the top of the temple.

“Geez,” Sunny mumbles, “I hope everyone down in the bunker is safe.”

“They’ll be fine,” Suyin says, pressing a hand against her forehead. “I’m sure the walls have been fireproofed.”

“They wouldn’t have to worry about it if someone hadn’t been so trigger happy,” Juanli replies, “Still, this just means we need to bring help sooner.”

The tank passes the front of the temple and steadily approaches the entrance gate in the distance.

“Speaking of which…” Suyin mumbles.

She pulls out the green flash drive containing Yin’s consciousness from her pocket and tosses it dismissively to the side. It clatters uselessly to the floor of the tank.

Juanli drives between the shadows of looming guard towers, eventually spotting the entrance gate in front of her. It’s doors are shut tight.

“Ugh, I hate to destroy architecture as beautiful as this,” Juanli mumbles, “But I suppose the government destroyed most of it already.”

“Just bust it down!” Sunny shouts, “Like a powerful dragon!”

Juanli chuckles to herself.

“Alright, if I must.”

She fires a shell from the nozzle of the tank. It crashes into the wooden doors and explodes, carving them to smoldering splinters. They collapse to the ground in a swirl of dust.

“We’re going home, Sunny!”

Juanli drives both levers forward, and the imposing tank crawls through the entrance of the temple.

Spoiler: 3. The Bunker
The nights passed in the bunker were long, and they were terribly dull. Taikong was inconsolable. It was up to Amethyst to make the meals. She usually just set them in front of Taikong and hoped he ate them.

Eventually, his moods seemed to improve, but he seemed to prefer talking to himself to talking to Amethyst. The two mostly ignored each other.

Neither of them used the sleeping pods. They couldn’t help but fear that if they stepped into them, they’d never wake up.

Eventually, they hear something truly unexpected. Footsteps, and they’re coming from the Afterlife Gate.

A handsome Chinese man with a broad smile appears on the other side. He’s decked out in combat gear with a rifle over his shoulder.

“Someone order a rescue?” he asks.

Amethyst stumbles to her feet, overcome with joy.

“Yes! Yes yes yes!” she shouts, “Get up, Taikong! We’re getting out!”

“What…?” Taikong says, slowly getting to his feet.

“We already heard the details from the justice minister,” he explains, “Sounds like you can’t get through this black gate, huh? Well, good news is, we’ve got some C4.”

He turns to shout at someone in the corridor.

“Light it up!”

“Wait, don’t!” Taikong shouts.

The handsome man leaps into the room. Seconds later, a boom rings out as an explosion busts a hole through the wall. Unfortunately, the rumbling doesn’t stop when the bomb goes off. The bunker shakes as large stones begin to drop from the ceiling.

“Oops!” the soldier says, “Not sure what happened there! Must’ve been a fault here or something! Let’s move, everyone! Quickly now!”

Needing no further prompting, Amethyst rushes through the hole. Taikong follows her. The handsome man gives him a friendly pat on the back as he steps across.

“No soldier left behind, eh?”

“Yes, of course.”

Taikong stops in his tracks after the soldier steps through. He holds his hand out to the hole, reaching for the empty space where a person should be.

“You heard him, Mei. Let’s go!”

The rumbling bunker is completely empty—

Mei takes Taikong’s hand as she heads through the opening. Her expression doesn’t change, as if she were stepping from a grave to a crematorium.

“Sure, Taikong. Don’t wait up on me.”

She shifts her medical bag to her other shoulder as—

Taikong continues down the corridor alone, following Amethyst out.

“I’m so glad I found you again.”

The bunker continues to collapse as the group rushes up the stairs.

Spoiler: 4. Bird’s Nest Stadium
Sunny was ten when the war ended.

After a long, drawn out conflict, China achieved victory. Many people suffered and died, but at last, it was finally over.

China held a victory celebration at the recently refurbished Bird’s Nest Stadium. After quite a bit of urging, Sunny finally convinced Juanli to buy tickets for the two of them and Suyin to attend. With the profits from Juanli’s store and Suyin’s allowance, the family easily raised the money.

On the night of the show, Juanli sits in the stands of the stadium, dressed in her finest clothes. But this time, she isn’t alone. Sunny sits on her left, and Suyin on her right. Both of their eyes are fixed on the stadium below, where Chinese performers dance in complicated arrays as a skilled songstress blasts her melody through the stadium.

“Wow, this is amazing!” Sunny shouts, “I’m so happy that we beat the Americans! This is the most fun I’ve had in years!”

“Just wait until you’re older,” Suyin replies, glancing wistfully at the box seats. “The real fun is happening up there.”

Juanli lightly elbows her sister.

“Don’t make me kick you out of the house again,” she hisses playfully.

Suyin chuckles. She waits until the others aren’t looking and pulls a flask out of her bag. She discreetly takes a sip.

“Look, Mama! They’re setting up the fireworks!” Sunny shouts.

“Oh, dear,” Juanli says, reaching instinctively toward her scarred eye. “Are they now?”

“They’re going to be awesome!” Sunny replies, “Just wait and see! Trust me!”

“Alright…I believe you, Sunny.”

Juanli reaches over and tightly clasps her son’s hand.

Finally, the fireworks are lit. Juanli flinches as the first crack rings out. However, everything goes according to plan. Bright red and yellow flowers fill the sky high above, casting their radiant glow on the crowd.

As the fireworks blaze in the sky, Suyin leans over to her sister.

“Listen, sis,” she says, “I’m sorry. I know I treated you poorly, and I wouldn’t blame you if you kicked me out again…but I’m glad you haven’t.”

Juanli turns to Suyin and smiles.

“It’s alright, Suyin! I’m just glad we’re all together.”

“It's not alright.” Suyin shakes her head and continues. “I was jealous. Everyone knew you and not me. It made me angry. I wanted what you had, and if I couldn't have it then I didn't want you to have it either. That's why I treated you the way I did. Torturing you and destroying your papercrafts... It was wrong. And I'm truly sorry I put you through all of that.”

Juanli’s face softens for a moment, taken a little by surprise. Her expression changes to one of pure relief.

“Thank you, I’m glad you at least understand. I think I’m ready to let the past stay in the past.”

The two pause for a moment to watch the fireworks.

"Y'know,” Suyin says, “this kind of reminds me when Mom and Dad would take us to the Temple of the Sun. That was one of the few places we'd get along. It's nice to feel this way again.”

“It really is,” Juanli says, smiling. “With all of us together now, I think we can handle whatever the future brings.”

Sunny lets out a cheer as another firework explodes. For the first time in years, everything is as it should be.

Spoiler: 5. Juanli’s Apartment
Sunny was thirteen. He was beginning to develop a deeper understanding of the world. Someone had left the television on, and Sunny watched intently.

On the screen, a newscaster calmly delivers a report. Meanwhile, an in-set reveals a chaotic scene of several armed guards converging on a single, unassuming man.

“Key government officials today have indicted Congressman Sun Taikong on charges of conspiracy to treason,” the newscaster explains, “New evidence has also called his mental stability into question. It is believed that he may be a U.S. sympathizer. Now reporting live from the scene.”

Sun Taikong thrashes against the guards around him. He spots the camera and screams into it.

“I’m telling you! It’s not safe here!” He screams, “Don’t forget me!”

He glances toward one of the other guards and flinches.

“Hey! Get your hands off her!”

Someone hits him over the head and puts him in cuffs. They begin taking him away.

“Sun has been exhibiting rebellious tendencies for some time now,” the newscaster explains, “He has repeatedly spoken out against supposed corruption in the government. However, it is clear that—”

Sunny turns the TV off and walks to the other room, where Juanli sits at the table. She gently massages her forehead.

“Mama?” Sunny says, “I was just watching the news. Apparently Sun Taikong got…arrested. Remember him?”

Juanli casts a weary gaze at the young boy.

“He said he…would help look after us,” she replies.

“I’m scared, Mama,” Sunny says sighing.

Juanli reaches out. She takes her son’s hand.

“Listen, Sunny. I don’t know what will happen, but…I need you to be strong. For your Auntie, and for me.”

Sunny nods. He reaches out to wrap Juanli in a hug.

“I will, Mama. You can trust me.”

Spoiler: ???
A stern-faced man sits at his desk and opens a history textbook. He watches as his class files in one after the other. Each walks in a dignified line, stepping perfectly in time as they efficiently approach their desks. They sit down in unison and stare at the blackboard, struggling to suppress their child-like urge to turn to their neighbors or fidget with their red armbands.

The man watches his class with the eyes of a hawk. He rises but doesn’t smile, directing their attention to the blackboard behind them.

“Today we will return to the topic of the Third World War, how it led to the formation of the Chinese empire, and what your place in this empire will be.”

He steps over to a computer on his desk. All of his motions are precise and practiced, like those of a robot. He plugs the computer in with one fluid motion.

“But first,” he continues in a steady drone, “We must honor the strength and courage of our ancestors who brought us here. Can anyone tell me what day it is?”

Tension fills the room. Most of the kids would rather not speak, afraid of saying the wrong thing. One girl near the front finally replies.

“This is the anniversary of our victory over the U.S., sir.”

“Correct,” he replies, “To honor this occasion, a special gala is being held in Beijing, where our glorious president will spare a few words.”

The teacher pulls down a screen for the projector. The webpage is already pulled up, and the president is already speaking. Taciturn but with energetic tones, he throws out his oration as if speaking to an army.

“Today, we celebrate the service of exceptional Chinese men. We admire their bravery, courage, and tenacity in the face of American oppression. We admire those who brought Chinese ideals throughout the world, allowing future generations to inherit a world free of strife. One where all Chinese families can live in peace—”

Suddenly, the feed cuts out. The stern-faced president is gone, replaced by a man standing in a dark room talking to someone off-screen. He takes occasional glances toward the camera before jumping in his seat.

“Gah! We got in? Oh, we got in!”

The man turns to the camera and does something the class hasn’t seen in a long time—he smiles. His brown hair is ruffled lightly, and he wears an unassuming hoodie, but they can see in his eyes the resolve of a leader.

“So, uhh…hey, everyone!” he continues, “I’ll make this quick. You can call me Sunny. I hate to interrupt the president’s annual rant and rave, but I have something more important to talk about.”

For the first time, the teacher’s face is raw with emotion. This clearly isn’t part of the class curriculum. He runs to the door and swings it open.

“Where is this broadcast coming from?” he shouts, “Are you all seeing this?”

Sunny leans in close to the screen. His eyes turn hard.

“Now, listen closely. The China you’ve all been taught to love—it’s darker than you think. Some people aren’t welcome in the president’s image of China. People like my mother, my aunt. Like me. You probably all know this right? Many of them are being taken straight out of their homes.”

A look of horror crosses the teacher’s face. He rushes over to unplug the monitor, but someone gets up to stop him. The young girl who answered the question earlier tightly grips the power cord.

“No! We need to hear this!”

“Get back to your seat this instant,” the teacher hisses.

“Or you’ll what?” she shouts through tears. “Take me away?”

“But the good news is that we won’t just let it happen,” Sunny continues, “See, I have a little group called the Paper Dragons. We’re scattered all throughout the empire, and we’re ready to fight back. We’re gonna start a revolution and build a China that’s open for all of us. And we’re counting on your help!”

The teacher reaches into the desk and pulls out a switch. He raises it at the student…

But another hand grabs it. It’s one of her friends, who already left her seat.

Then another student stands up. Then another, and another. And soon everyone is to their feet, rushing to defend their friend. They easily overwhelm the teacher, taking the switch from his hands. Someone kicks him. Then another.

“What do you say?” Sunny shouts over the chaos, closing his fist in front of him. “Let’s show them what Chinese courage really means!”

The video feed cuts out.

Spoiler: Catch-Up
This timeline picks up roughly after the discovery of the Battle of Wood. Most of the group is spread throughout the facility, with some in the East Wing and others near the throne room. Fujisaki wasn’t drained at the beginning of the game.

Server Room: Amethyst, Amandi, X, Taikong
Throne Room: Monk, Juanli, Suyin, Mao, Fujisaki, Mei

Amethyst’s group searches through the Server Room, trying to find more information and clues.

A scream rings out in the distance. It sounds like Juanli!

“Did you all hear that?” Amandi asks, “Someone might be in danger.”

“We should head back to the throne room and check,” Taikong says, rushing for the door.

“Not so fast,” X says coolly. “I believe the source of Rabbit’s distress is something else entirely. I would like to direct your attention to Dragon’s screen…”

Taikong stops in his tracks, put off by the tone of X’s voice. The group turns their heads to the monitor, laid into the wall. The dread in their heart rises.

The playroom is dark and covered completely in ash. The middle of the room is a barren wasteland, with each toy being violently hurled against the wall. There’s no sign of Sunny, other than a scorched and mangled dragon costume in the far corner of the room.

“What…what happened?” Taikong stammers.

“The Dragon’s Fury button,” Amandi says, tightening his grip on the cane. “Someone must have pressed it.”

Yang’s image appears over the gruesome scene. Its eyes seem to pierce the soul of those watching.

“One of you has committed a truly heinous act,” Yang says, “In your greed for survival, you have slaughtered an innocent child in front of his mother. Such behavior will not be rewarded. The game requires that you all return to the dungeons from whence you came.”

Yang continues to stare as a loud alarm blares throughout the facility. The group hears the sound of an inferno blazing, very close by!

“What the fuck is that?” Amethyst asks, racing out of the Server Room…

A bright blaze is burning at the end of the hallway, and it’s starting to close in on the group!

---------------------

The others have gathered up in the throne room, where the still image of the playroom is displayed on the massive screen. They seem to comprehend that something isn’t right in the rest of the facility, but they’re noticeably distracted by what just happened.

Taikong runs out of the antechamber and enters the room, followed by Amethyst, X, and Amandi…

[Just react for now. You aren’t meant to solve this mystery yet. You can start heading for the dungeon or wait for the GM post. Try not to commit any murders.]

“So one of you pressed the button,” X says, cutting to the chase. “Seems Cat made good on their promise. This game is quite interesting now. “But with so few hours on the bomb, the killer is not close to taking their escape. Either the killer killed for a personal reason, or to kill again.” She takes little caution to be mindful of Juanli’s grief.

"That might just be Cat's way of herding us to the dungeons," Sun Taikong replied, staring down the people in the throne room with manic eyes. One of them had just murdered a child, and now outside of a few individuals, he wasn't sure he could trust any of them. "Fuck, you really had to do it, didn't you?" he yelled. "You just couldn't help yourself!"

Mao was eerily calm. He looked up at the screen, counting his breaths to maintain his composure. He wanted to tell everybody to 'calm down', but he felt that that would only fall on deaf ears at this time.

“The fire must be to heard us. It coincided with the Cat’s request to change location,” X nods in agreement. “The Rat’s comment is unexpectedly pointed. Perhaps even now he can put together who would have pressed the button. To me, I cannot because the motive is unclear. It seems that the Cat has a very specific route for us now regardless.”

"Are we supposed to return to those damned cells? Would that not just leave us trapped by the flames?" Fujisaki grumbles and follows the rest of the group, not seeing much better option than complaining.

He clenches his fist and frowns, as strange as he is, the death of Sunny seems to have impacted him as well, compared to some of the others.

Monk was on his knees, a look of total despair in his eyes as he stared at the screen. He was visibly shaking, but just as it looked like he was about to cry out, he got up slowly and turned to the others, a cold look upon his face.

"When I find out which one of you pressed that damn thing", he growled, "I will rain hell upon you. NO MERCY! You think you can get away with killing an innocent kid like that?! You've got another thing coming. You will pay for this." His fists were curled up and he was posed in a rather aggressive stance. He was still shaking but had a look of pure fury on his face.

Juanli lets out an unearthly wail as she falls to her knees sobbing. Her Sunny, her precious gift, murdered by some obscene person. Vengeance would be had, but right now it was too much for Juanli to process as she just lay there sobbing, making no attempt to move back to her cell nor move from her sorrow.

“Naturally, humans would get upset at the passing of a child. I can’t help but see that some people are acting with familiarity,” X says, truly to nobody but herself. “ Of course the Cat has placed specific people in this game and some would lie to hide connections. This may look like a part of this game, but I believe it is a crime for personal reasons, facilitated by the Cat as a part of their plan.” She closely regards the suspects from the foyer.

Mei steps over to Juanli and crouches down next to her, "I get what you're feeling, but we need to go. We're gonna find who did this later, alright?"

“The Horse seems to know the feeling of losing her child, or rather someone she has the same amount of love for that she would be willing to compare it,” X observes in a way that makes everyone uncomfortable. “The Rabbit may have lost her will to live. Her own personal will seems to have shriveled at this point. This world may offer her nothing.”

Mao went over to Juanli’s catatonic side and swiftly picked her up, draping her over his shoulders. “If you wish to die, that is your choice. But for now I will make it mine.” He turned to the others. “Let’s move.”

Juanli just continues sobbing, making no attempt to resist Mao as he presumably dumps her in a cell.

Mei takes a few steps back in reaction to Mao hoisting Juanli like that. Not how she'd handle it but it works for now, she thinks.

On the other hand, she also gives X a disgruntled look, "Geez, can you just not refrain from fucking prying like that?!'

"Let's get moving," Sun Taikong growled, pushing on ahead to the dungeons without waiting to see if everyone followed.

“Everything about this game is personal. Our existences depend on my prying,” X says, undaunted. She turns and ambles her way toward the dungeon.

A cloud of flame rushes out of the East Wing. Deciding that this is their cue to leave, the group rushes down the hallway to the Dungeon. Once all of them have made it inside, two large metal shutters close over the door behind them. It seems they would be safe from the fire here, but they were not trapped inside.

As the players begin to filter away from the door, Juanli whirls on them.

“Who did this?” she shouts, her eyes raw. “Who?”

“I-I don’t know a fucking thing!” Mei replies, “I didn’t even hear the bomb go off!”

“Most likely the Dragon room is soundproof,” Fujisaki explains, “Cat must have wanted to hide the identity of whoever pushed that button. In fact, Cat might be directly responsible.”

“Well, surely we’ve got alibis, right?” Suyin says, “Like Juanli and I. We were together the entire time.”

“I spent most of my time looking at that computer over there,” Monk says, nodding to the one in Amethyst’s cell. “Fujisaki, Mao, and Mei came and went. Seems like any of them could have had the chance to do it.”

“Now hold on!” Juanli shouts, “When I left the Washrooms, you weren’t in the Dungeon! In fact, it was completely empty.”

“I was getting to that,” Monk snaps, “I left at one point to report my findings to the other group. Didn’t see anyone else on my way into the throne room…but there ain’t no way in hell that I did this.”

“Speaking of the other group, they should all clear each other, right?” Suyin asks.

“Well, uh…” Amethyst says, “Taikong and I can clear each other, but…X did leave at one point, and Amandi went looking for her.”

“This is true,” Amandi says, “However, I was unable to locate her until shortly before Juanli screamed, when she returned of her own volition.”

“Really?” Suyin says, “What were you doing, X?”

“Ah, here it is. I assumed this accusation was inevitable, so I will change the subject,” X says, failing to answer the question. “To Mao, Fujisaki, and Mei, who were all much closer to the button.”

“I was in the hallway outside the dungeon with Fujisaki,” Mao explains, “Until he went to the throne room, that is. Afterwards, I followed to make sure he wasn’t doing anything suspicious.”

“It couldn’t be me,” Fujisaki says, “I was accompanied the entire time, even when I went through the throne room. It sounds like Mao was alone though.”

“Nah, I watched him pass through,” Monk adds, “I didn’t see him press the button. Unfortunately, I don’t think he can vouch for me.”

“What about Mei?” Amandi asks, “No one has mentioned her yet.”

“Oh, I…” Mei trails off, looking uncomfortable. “I was just sitting behind some rubble in the hallway.”

“The entire time?”

Mei falls silent again.

“Oh, lay off her!” Taikong shouts, “There’s no way she did this!”

“Suyin, I would like to verify something,” X says, “Were you with Juanli when she discovered the scene?”

“Why does it matter?” Suyin adds, “I mean, we were only together until she left the throne room, but…I’m not sure what you’re trying to say.”

“I’m not saying anything,” X replies, “I just think it is interesting, that’s all.”

The group eventually disbands, as the discussion doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

X notices a light blinking on the lonely terminal in the dungeon. She makes her way over to check it and discovers that a new file has been added to the computer, titled “water.txt”.

X clicks it and begins to read.

Spoiler: water.txt.
The Battle of Water:

The game will divide players into two opposing teams. One team will be designated as Guards, and the other will be designated as Prisoners. All players except Dragon must participate in this battle.

The team leaders for this game will be Ox and Pig.

The battle will take place in a series of three rounds. Each round will last approximately four hours. At the end of each round, the CDP of all players will decrease as long as they remain in the Dungeon.

At the beginning of the first round, the Prisoners will receive the Water Key, which will allow their team to escape. However, they cannot leave until the end of the third round. The Guards may leave at any time, but only if they receive the Water Key from the prisoners. The Guards are permitted to use whatever means necessary to get information from the Prisoners.

Guards will have access to the large metal door at the back of the Washrooms. Inside they will find weapons and restraining devices. In the back of the door is an Afterlife Gate which may be used to immediately drain the points of unruly prisoners.

The teams are as follows:

Guards: Ox, Rat, Sheep, Monkey, Dog
Prisoners: Pig, Tiger, Rabbit, Snake, Horse, Rooster

Prisoners—please check your bracelets for the location of the Water Key.

May good fortune be upon you.

At around this time, the Meridian Gate blocking off the Washrooms turns off. X turns to Mao and explains her discovery. The two head to the washrooms and open the large iron door.

“Hey, what’s this on my bracelet?” Monk asks, “Hmm…”

Mao stares at the massive Afterlife Gate in the back of the hidden room. He steps inside and pulls out a hefty baton.

水战
(Battle of Water)

Yang’s voice blasts over the intercom.

“Round 1 of the Battle of Water has now begun,” it explains, “Please do your best with the roles you have been provided.”

The others begin to notice the message that X and Mao have already seen…

[This battle is fairly malleable and open to ideas from the players. If you have an idea for a specific thing you want your character to do or how your character would act in their role, let me know. The actual outcome will play itself out, so just focus on entertaining posts.]

Juanli pushes herself off the floor, her hair bedraggled and her face a mask of tears "S-so...you just torture us? T-this is too horrible...I just want my S-S-S-SUN-" she couldn't finish the sentence and devolved into crying once more.

Fujisaki mumbles to himself after looking over his bracelet, and reading the rules of the game.

"So this is what's in store for us... Hm." Fujisaki continues mumbling, as if he was talking to someone who wasn't there, while scanning the dungeon methodically.

Amethyst glared at the baton Mao brought out of the back room. "Put that thing back. We're not cavemen, we can settle this game peacefully instead of playing along to Cat's design."

"I really don't want to resort to violence," Sun Taikong partially agreed, before glaring around the room. "There's every chance one of you prisoners is the fucker who murdered Sunny though. You really don't want to try me."

"Violence is not necessary." Mao's eyes flitted towards the prisoners. "For them."

"Once we've figured out who killed Sunny, we have an afterlife gate to execute them..." Amethyst said. "Then we can settle which group should escape. So arming people is a terrible idea, we can't risk it in case the murderer is in the guard group."

"Don't start with this 'them' garbage." Amethyst stopped glaring at the baton so she could glare at Mao. "We're all players here, only one of us is a murderer."

"You'd hope so, Amethyst, but I think we're past that point," Mei enters the glare-at-the-old-man contest, "Do we expect whoever finds the water key to just give it up, anyway?"

“Three of us.” Fujisaki corrects Amethyst. “That is what the computer said. Possibly four now.”

"All you need to do is tell us is where the water key is." Mao spoke with timbre and reason, but his true intentions were unknown. "Then we would actually be able to discuss this, as players, and decide which group gets out. Otherwise we're negotiating with a knife at our throats."

"My God... Are you kidding me?" Dr. Uwem asked, surprised by what was going on. "To think that X would be on the guards team and I on the prisoners team..."

Mei looks at Uwem in a very disappointed stare. After a second or so of disappoint-stsring though, she looks back at Mao, "What's your plan if we don't do that?"

Mao glared at Mei. "I wouldn't do what you're thinking, but I got a feeling you already made up your mind on me."
