"No! No! Dammit!" Monk yelled in desperation as he reached the murals, desperately examining talons of the dragon on the left in hopes of finding the key. He moved frantically, sensing Mao approaching him fast.

Fujisaki thrusts his prod in Suyin’s leg and quickly pulls it back, only to strike again on her torso. “Stay put. I’ll be back for you later.”

He grins and prepares himself for Mao, the moment he’s been waiting for.

Mao tackled Monk against the wall, slamming his knee into Monk's crotch. He wrapped his hands around Monk's throat and began to viciously smash his head against the wall.

Any normal man would've been out of commission. Mao began to slowly realize how abnormal his opponent was.

Mao tenses up and releases Monk. His mind went blank. His body was driving solely on instinct. He threw himself backwards, smashing his head into Fujisaki and breaking his nose.

He collapsed to the ground, shakily catching his breath. Eyes flitting between his two opponents. Slowly he pulled out a knife.

He smiled and beckoned the two men towards him with an outstretched hand.

Monk digs his fingernails between the dragon's talon just before Mao knees him in the Monk balls. His fingers slip off as Mao grabs him and slams his head against the wall. His head strikes the dragon's talon, which breaks under the impact. Time slows down as the colored pieces of the mosaic fly off the wall in every direction around the two men, forming a shot that would be found in every trailer for NGX.

Behind the talon is a small compartment containing a flash drive with a pattern of blue waves on the handle.

"NO!" Mei shrieks, rushing forwards only to be met by Taikong's limp body. She desperately catches it, being brought down as well by the momentum. Still struggling to understand the reality of what just happened, she takes a hasty look at Taikong's neck.

The nurse tries to put pressure on the cut in a deluded last-second attempt to think of anything she could do, but deep inside she knew it was all useless. All Mei could do was watch and wait as the most valued person in her life bleeds to death in front of her.

Fujisaki stood over Mao, ignoring the mosaic and staring the general down. He stood close, but not close enough for the knife to reach him.

He held the prod high, ready to strike. “I wasted my chance to kill you four years ago. Not again.”

He began to laugh. Slowly, at first, savouring the moment. He remained composed, but there was a wicked grin on his face.

Monk was shaken up, bloody and bruised. He was clearly on the verge of collapsing, and the wounds Mao had inflicted on him would probably have damaged his brain severely.

But he was alive. In pain and on his deathbed, most likely, but he was still alive.

As Mao let go of him and the mosiac broke apart, he slowly turned his head behind him. Seeing the flash drive there in front of him, he took the chance to snatch it. Turning to Mao, he sneered, blood running down his nose.

"You want this so badly, ex-ambassador? Then I'm afraid you'll have to pry this from my cold dead hands first."

He raised his hands up, ready to face him.

Mao stared at the two men, both prepared to kill him. But he didn't face off against them just yet. He instead dragged himself a few steps over to his wife, reaching his hand out to her. He was covered in blood, cuts, bruises, and there was a crazed and primal look in his eyes. "Honey, just one more push. And then we'll leave here together--that I promise you."

He pulled her up, standing by her side one more time. The standoff between the four of them ticked onwards, remaining a stalemate as long as nobody moved forwards.

The chaos in the room may as well have been a movie playing in the background for Sun Taikong. He felt nothing about it, not even his own rapidly approaching death. The only thing that seemed real to him anymore was Mei. With her hands on his wound, his own were free to rest bloodily on top of hers. He tried and failed to speak, so his last words were conveyed through his eyes alone, for only Mei to know. Then they grew dim. He was gone.

The scenery was of little concern to the nurse. For all that she cared about, currently, she could just die here and she'd be better off. A mutter was all that could escape her trembling lips, "No-- don't leave me!"

Mei's eyes widened and her body froze once Taikong went limp. With weary and slow movements, she clutches his hands to check for movement and finds none. She grips them even harder and holds them close to herself, closing her eyes in sorrow. Though she wanted to cry, she had no tears left to shed; a few dry sobs were all that she could spare.

"That's a good fuckin' question." Monk tried to laugh, though it just came out as a strange sort of growl instead. "Honestly? At this point, I've got nothin' left to lose, Mao. I lost it all the moment that fuckin' button was pressed. The only reason I had to keep going was to find out who did it." He stared him down coldly. "But now... I think I have a good idea who it was. Y'get me?"

He coughed, choking up some blood in the process. "It was a damn pity I had to be the guy to vouch for ya. But now that I've realised what happened... I suppose there's no point in escapin' for me, is there? You're right, there's nothing left for a fella like me outside."

He clenched his fist. "So I'm gonna make sure there's nothing left for you two, either. Even if I die trying."

Mao just chuckled slightly, and then unusually... he laughed. Even Suyin had never heard him laugh like this before. No... even Mao himself had never heard himself like this before. It was a deep, bellowing laughter that shook the room.

"I have no idea what you're talking about, I'm afraid. But to know one's purpose is a beautiful thing." He raised the cattle prod forward, holding it like a spear. "I will grant you the fight you wish for--enjoy it for the rest of your bitter, miserable life!"

The ambassador charged towards the other, swinging the cattle prod straight for Monk's head. It was perfectly parried by Monk's cattle prod and the two held them against each other in lockstep, literal sparks flying between their weapons. Spirits filled with nothing but the desire to kill the other.

Monk pressed back against the general. Despite having been bruised and weakened, he held his ground with considerable strength. There was a light in his eyes. He grimaced as he pushed himself to fight back, but he showed no signs of giving up.

Other than some guttural roars as the two battled, he didn't utter a word. There was a thing being said but it was no words.

The two continued to bat each other's cattle prods against each other, yet Mao remained on the offensive. He kicked Monk into one of the stalls, smashing the porcelain toilet behind him. A fountain of water sprayed throughout, yet Monk did not falter. He continued to push back at Mao, smashing him through the side wall of the stall and throwing the general into the neighboring toilet. Another fountain of water sprayed wildly, yet Mao still steadied his stance on the floor enough to face Monk.

He swung the rod again, but Monk dodged so he only smashed the wall behind him. He dragged it through, pulling out chunks of plaster. He swung downwards, this time connecting on Monk's shoulder. He didn't let up, hitting him again and again. The two wrestled in the water, Mao desperately trying to hold Monk's head under the rising flood.

Being hit by a cattle prod several times didn't seem to slow down Monk. As he got held down underneath the water, he decided to surprise the general and instead of struggling to get out, sunk into it slightly. He reached for Mao's leg under there and much like a feral dog, bit into it with great force. Yelling in great pain, Mao lost his balance and fell into the water as well. Monk climbed on top of him, delivering a series of hard hitting punches onto his face.

This, of course, didn't stop Mao, who reached for Monk's cattleprod (which he had dropped nearby in their struggle) and zapped him with it. Monk flinched, getting shocked hard enough to fall back through the walls and into the neighbouring stall. As he lay down stunned for a few seconds, Mao had plenty of time to get up. Laughing at the man's pathetic state, he walked slowly towards him, making sure not to lose his balance in the process. As he got closer though, Monk noticed a pile of wet toilet paper that had conveniently fallen during the commotion. Since he now had nothing else to fight back with, he threw it in the direction of the general's face. It surprisingly landed squarely on him, blinding him temporarily.

Not wanting Fujisaki to get the upper hand while she was distracted by the fight, Suyin rips off her mask and throws it at the man, aiming at his head. After doing so she rushes towards him with the baton, swinging it wildly around.

Fujisaki seemed to have understood that Monk shred similar feelings to him, and let the two fight alone, for now.

Fujisaki swiftly dodged Suyin’s mask, and slammed his much larger body against hers full force, knocking her over and abut away. He then approached Suyin slowly, twirling his prod.

“While this is not how I thought this would go... It matters little. Nothing can get in my way now. Four long years I’ve shamed myself for my mistake. A foolish mistake.”

“Now, I can get my revenge and more. The pain she felt... You’ll suffer worse. Prepare yourself. Pray to any god you wish. I will give you that much. More than what she got...”

Fujisaki stood closely in front of Suyin, and stared her down. It seemed like he was giving Suyin the chance to strike, run, or prepare however she wished. Something Mao didn’t give to her.

Mao was briefly confused, pulling the toilet paper off of his face. He approached Monk, sitting over the weakened man. He drove his knife downwards, straight to Monk’s heart.

The water slowed it down slightly, but the knife was still barely piercing Monk’s skin. Monk was trying to resist, but Mao had the upper hand. He needed to only push a little further.

Monk gasped as the knife pierced his skin. As much as he tried to push back, a part of him knew this was the end of the line for him. He looked towards Fujisaki and Suyin fighting in the distance then back to Mao smirking over his soon-to-be corpse. He said his prayers quietly, having accepted he no longer had a fighting chance.

While the two were fighting, a course of action came to the nurse's mind. Mei carefully laid Taikong's head on the floor and silently stood up, careful to not make much noise. Her eyes were hopeless, yet burnt with the fire of determination for just a short moment.

She makes her way to the armory amidst all the chaos to retrieve a pair of handcuffs and then returns to the washroom to head over to Fujisaki's side. With a quick nod towards the man and a show of the cuffs in her hands, Mei pounces at Suyin to try and restrain her on the ground.

He leaves the two women alone, and heads towards wherever Monk and Mao are, despite the former possibly being dead by now, prod still gripped tightly in his hand, his knuckles white and stained red with his own blood.

Mao couldn't even hear the fight in the background. All he could see was red. And then time froze again.

Even Mao could recognize that he went too far. That he had lost himself somewhere along the way. But the world was far more complicated than that. Good, evil, yin, yang... none of it is that simple.

So even if it cost him his entire soul, he would do everything for China. He promised himself that decades ago. But in this moment he would allow himself one, selfish desire: killing the American. Right now more than anything that was what he wanted.

... perhaps he could get Suyin out too. The thought of that gave him new strength to push the knife an inch further, Monk's grip giving in.

Fujisaki spotted the two men in the stall, one with his back turned to him. This was his chance. His golden opportunity.

"Hhhhrraaaagh!" Fujisaki shouted and charged at Mao, full force. He plunged his prod right into the man's back, and while still gripping it tightly, he swung one of his legs into the general's ribcage from behind, kicking him back a stall over and ripping the prod back out, sending Mao spinning. Now on his back, on the floor, Fujisaki stood above him with the prod held high... And quickly plunged it into his chest. And back out again.

"This is for all of the pain you caused her!" Fujisaki shouts loud and clear. "This is for Isuzu!" He roared and aimed the prod right for Mao's heart, over and over, before finally thrusting one last time into the general's jolted and twitching body, with practically enough force to penetrate the tile beneath him, essentially pinning him to the floor.

With a deep breath, Fujisaki stood tall. "This fate is still too kind for you. Be grateful, and die."

Fujisaki turned his back to Mao, and walked away, searching for the key. Leaving his chest in a beaten, bloody mess full of holes. An familiar sight to Fujisaki, yet this one was much more satisfying to look at.

Suyin and Mei could both hear the clack of Fujisaki's boots against the tile as he headed back towards the two women...

Mao’s eyes lazily fell to the water, his blood spreading through it. He could feel nothing. No relief, no bliss, no light at the end of the tunnel. Just the knowledge that he was about to die.

In the reflection of the water, he saw Taikong’s corpse and vacant eyes. That was the greatest suffering the world could inflict on him before he died.

Monk lay still on the ground, the knife still pierced into him. Was he dead?

...As it turns out, not quite yet. He opened his eyes slightly, a tired look in his eyes. Seeing Mao's corpse, he realised the fight was over. He had been rescued.

Looking over to the man who had saved him, he stretched his hand out. "F-Fujisaki..." He called out softly, trying to get his attention.

He slowly turned back around and approached the stall Monk was left in. "You're alive?" Less of a question to the breathing man in front of him, and more of a statement of surprise.

"....." He stood above Monk, and looked down at him silently. It seemed he was ready to listen, if nothing else.

He looked up to the man, a serious look on his face. "I heard what you said earlier to Mao... You wasted your chance to kill him... Four years ago, right?" He grimaced. "So... is that it? You tried to murder Mao... By causing that explosion at the Bird's Nest Stadium? The same one... that ended up causing the war?"

Monk's face remained expressionless as he heard Fujisaki's story. He seemed to not be surprised by any of this... almost as if he'd already known.

"You were this close... to realising", he finally spoke up. "When we were in the war room, when we saw the blueprint for the stadiums and when Mao told us the stages had been switched... That's when I remembered."

About half an hour before the bomb went off, Monk went backstage with some of his colleagues to discuss the seating plans. On the way back in, they passed a man in a maintenance uniform who gave them a strange stare.

"You all are quite far from your side..." he mumbled.

The man had scars all over his face, and though he seemed to be wearing two sleeves, one of them didn't seem to even move.

"You didn't know... about the stages being switched. So when you tried to blow up Mao, you instead got... the American side instead", Monk explained, a sense of tranquility to his voice now. He let out a strange type of laugh. "Still... I can't be upset at you. It would've been better if you actually got that bastard, but... You did give me an opportunity to... start anew." He was interrupted by a cough, and he spat more blood out. "I don't know what Mao did to you exactly, but at least... you came to finish him off for good. And now... both of us are finally going to die for real this time."

He suddenly beckoned Fujisaki to come closer to him. As the man leaned forward, he suddenly pulled him forward... into a hug. "I have nothing left to lose. Not since he pushed that button and killed Sunny. Now that he's gone... I can finally depart this world... Knowing that karma came to bite him in the end..."

With that, he let go of the man and fell back down to the floor. Though it was hard to see, there was a peaceful smile on his face. He lay still, his eyes closed. He would never open them again.

...Monk had passed.

At the same time, his fist unclenched. Hidden in its clutch was the blue flash drive he had taken from the mural. It almost seemed pointed at Fujisaki, as if it were a parting gift for him. The key... to escape.

Fujisaki was surprised by the hug, but reciprocated awkwardly. He slowly realized just what Monk was saying.

"It is a shame things ended this way." He mutters, taking the Water Key from Monk's opened hand.

"Rest well." He mumbles to himself, with nobody around to hear him. With little hesitation, knowing the round would surely be ending soon enough, he walked back towards Suyin and Mei.

"I have they key. We're leaving. If there is anything you need, take it now." He nodded at Mei, and looked down at Suyin.

"Goodbye."

Then, he walked out of the washroom, leaving the two women behind.

Mei stands up, roughly pulling Suyin by her hands up as well. She looks to Fujisaki but doesn't acknowledge what he says. Instead, she elects to take one last look around the room, wincing at the scale of just how many people died.

"Two people left," Mei mumbles with a coarse voice, looking to Suyin, "What about you? Do you want to starve here or what?"
