"Do you think I don't fucking know?!" Mei snaps, grabbing the cell bars and tightening her grip, "I already know I'm terrible and dangerous! Are you just here to rub the salt in the wound, or what?! Juanli unconsciously hugged the hammer while giving Mei a sympathetic look as she explained her self-loathing before shaking her head and stomping the hammer down like a cane on the floor.

"N-Now see here General! That is no fair way to judge a person! Miss Mei has been nothing but helpful, if a little foul mouthed, and for all your claims that her feelings are not evidence, neither are yours." She shook her head "I'm just glad my son isn't here to see such a barbaric practice by an esteemed Chinese hero! You are spouting morphogenetic nonsense and I don't believe that's admissible in any court much less to justify this kind of treatment!"

She gave Mao a wary look before making another plea "General I strongly advise you to put the gun down or give it to Mr Sun, or even throw it out an afterlife gate! But please recognise that what you are proposing is insane and unfair to poor Miss Mei."

Sun Taikong had been about to get very disrespectful to his commanding officer, so it was probably a good thing Juanli spoke first. "We don't have enough evidence to make a good judgement here. Can't we just go back to trying to find a way out? If you're so sure Mei is Cat, then she can't do anything to stop us. We can just leave her in the cell while we do it." He glanced apologetically at Mei as he said that.

Mao cursed at Juanli's answer to his question. There goes that plan (whatever it was).

He shook his head at Taikong's suggestion. "Absolutely not. It's possible Yang could open these cells remotely." More accurately, Mao didn't trust Taikong to not let his boyish love get in the way of this. Still, he wasn't being trusted right now so he would have to compromise or everyone would turn against him. He scratched his chin, and then remembered something from when they had searched the facility earlier.

"I'll be right back." Mao said, leaving the room quickly. He was back almost immediately afterwards, so he didn't go far. Nobody could've rescued Mei in the time he left, which was probably why he was fine with leaving.

He then walked over to Mei's cell... and opened the door.

"Give me your right arm." Mao commanded.

I could have gave you an earful and a stern lecture on why you shouldn't abuse medicine... But you kept this hidden from me the entire time..."

Fujisaki remained silent during all the commotion, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t paying attention. He carefully looked and listener to the scenes unfolding before him. His face switched expressions often, from curious, lack of interest, and extreme rage as the scene went on. He made no pleads to be let out of his cell.

“I found a spare pair of handcuffs in the washroom. I think they were supposed to go somewhere else, but the only other place in there was locked.” Mao shrugged while thoroughly frisking Mei for weapons as well.

“I also took care of this.” He tossed Juanli a metal object which she either swiftly caught (even with the hammer!) or embarrassingly dropped before awkwardly scrambling to pick it up.

The item was the gun with the distinctive scratches—it was completely busted.

“I smashed it against the sink. And dumped the bullets down the drain. So we don’t have to worry about anybody having a gun anymore.”

Mao’s face was stone cold but he smiled inwardly. Truthfully, he did not want to get rid of the gun or the great comforts it provided. But in this situation Mao calculated that it was more dangerous to have it than not.

If he kept the gun, there was a possibility it could be stolen and used to kill him. Either way, the probability of somebody not trusting him and trying to attack would go up if they felt he’d use the gun. It was unnecessary to create more enemies than needed.

Without weapons, Mao still felt secure. He could take anybody if they tried to rescue Mei—they would have to go through him. Being handcuffed was a pain, but it would be far greater of a burden for Mei with no room to operate on her own.

And he did not tell the group this part, but he had discarded the key to the handcuffs along with with the bullets. There would be no easy rescue of her. So even if he had to be handcuffed to her as he turned her in to the government, dead or alive, he would be more than comfortable carrying her.

Yes… this was the Supreme Art of War. Always giving yourself the highest probability of success against the enemy. Victory and defeat were simply the results.

Juanli awkwardly fumbles the bashed gun as it bounces off her hand and juggles between both of them before she finally caught it. Horrified at the feeling of handling a gun she examined the mangled frame "I mean...this clearly won't work so that's good" she said holding it awkwardly before popping it in her handbag "But I still hope you'll eventually let Miss Mei go at somepoint. In the meantime I agree, we should probably keep trying to escape or at least get comfortable until the others return." she said brushing down her dress.

She looked over to Mei trying to give her an apologetic look for coddling this madman's plan. It seemed the least amount of harm for now.

“Anyway,” Taikong says, looking distressed at the way things are going. “Can we just start looking for a way out? I don’t feel safe here anymore.”

“And how would we do that?” Amandi asks, “No one else can leave through the front door.”

“The large bomb,” Mao explains, “Now that we know it can be moved, we can use it to escape. Let’s look for an exterior wall that might be weak enough to blow open. Then we can push the Dragon's Fury button and pray that it works.”

Everyone decides to try the plan, though mostly out of having no better options.

The group walks to the throne room—a newly freed Fujisaki following along with them. Mei remains handcuffed to Mao, and the group can’t help but give them a wide berth. Upon heading inside, they spot the bomb resting by the wall.

“So…a place that we might be able to blow up with this bomb,” Amandi says, “Where might that be?”

“I might have seen something near that large door,” Juanli says, “Part of the wall there seemed weaker than the others.”

“Let’s take a look and decide if we can push the bomb over to it.”

The group walks all the way to the entrance hall. They quickly spot the wall Juanli had highlighted in the corridor leading from the entrance hall toward the Server Room. Taikong presses his hand against the wall’s surface and feels midday warmth on the other side.

“Looks like our best option,” Taikong says uncertainly. “But I’m still not sure the bomb would be strong enough. We need to be careful about this.”

“We haven’t found any walls in a sorrier state than this one,” Mao replies, “That bomb will go off eventually anyway, so we might as well do something with it. If it doesn’t work, we can just keep waiting for Suyin.”

The group walks all the way back from the entrance hall and approaches the bomb.

“Let’s get to work,” Mao says, rapidly nearing the dangerous explosive.

“Hey, get away from that!” Mei shouts, tugging on the handcuffs. “I don’t want to be near that thing if it blows up.”

“Look, you have two options here,” Mao says, pulling Mei back. “Either count on forgiveness from the judicial system, or count of forgiveness from me—and I wouldn’t be against getting rid of you now to be certain—so you’d best cooperate.”

The room falls silent, as everyone tries to keep from breaking the tension in the room.

[This scene is stalling until I decide what I’m doing. Have fun pushing the bomb with your friends!]

"That feels like even more of a stretch than the wall idea," Sun Taikong said doubtfully. "I'm not sure the bomb can destroy this wall, but it's more likely to work than putting our faith in the facility Cat set up. We have no idea what else is waiting for us inside here."

He continued to throw glances at Mei, but for now seemed satisfied that she was in no danger.

“....” Fujisaki raises no objections to the plan, and took a few deep breaths before attempting to aid the others with Taikong. It was evident that despite his missing arm and other possible mental issues with seeing women, he could push as hard as any trained soldier.

BOOM!

An explosion rocks the wall of the facility, flinging rubble across the grassy courtyard. With a steady rumble, sections of the wall slide to the ground, opening a small passage to the inside of the palace. Dull smoke rises out of the opening and drifts into the sky.

Taikong and Fujisaki appear behind the hole first.

“Huh. It worked…” Fujisaki says.

Taikong nods, looking around.

“I don’t see any of the others here, but I’m sure they left a while ago,” he says, “I’ll look around for them, just in case. Maybe clear my head a little. Don’t wait up on me.”

Taikong walks past the ruined temple’s front gates, turning left around the corner of the building.

Fujisaki waits for the others to arrive. As he takes in the scenery alone, a manly tear slides down his face.

Finally, Juanli and Amandi appear in the opening behind him. Juanli helps Amandi navigate over the rubble to get outside. Then Mao and Mei bring up the rear, awkwardly crossing over while chained together.

“Where’s Taikong?” Mei asks, looking around the courtyard.

“He’s checking for the others,” Fujisaki explains, “He said not to wait for him.”

“Good, because I wasn’t planning to,” Mao replies, “Let’s go.”

The group heads for the entrance of the facility. They spot a tall guard tower on the left, climbing up to the heavens. The front gates are spread wide, taunting the group...

“The closest main road is about 15 kilometers that way. It’ll probably take us into the night to get to.” Mao recollected (which might not be accurate i just made it up and he’s an old man). “If we choose to make the hike we’ll want to bring water and rations with us. It might not be a bad idea to wait for the others either, or at least wait until morning.”

Mao pursed his lips. Despite escaping, he felt no better about their current situation besides enjoying the air and sun. He underestimated how bothersome the chafing of his wrist would be as well. “Could somebody climb that tower and get a look at the area?”

Juanli is baffled as they walk around the outside, hugging the hammer tight in lieu of her son. "It's hard to believe that worked...but...but we're here...outside." she paused for a moment feeling the cool evening air gently blow through her hair "I know this place too...the Temple of Sun...we used to come here as children." she said admiring the architecture.

She smiled warmly at the others "We're less than a day from the city then! Suyin will remember that too! We could even maybe catch up to the others if we hurry!" she said positively bouncing to go.

Mei looks at the gentle sky for a few moments with a longing look. Gazing over to the watchtower, though, just reminds her of how much she hates being in cuffs. The current argument takes her out of her daydreams and she turns back to the remainder of the group, "I agree we should go once Taikong gets back, but, you actually want me to march all that way while cuffed?"

A high-calibre bullet whizzed past Mao's head as he leaned close to Mei, only just missing him and raising a cloud of brick dust where it hit the wall some distance away.

Across the courtyard, Sun Taikong was aiming a sniper rifle at them. Strapped to his back were a set of assault rifles; he was decked out for war. "I won't let you take her, Mao!" he yelled, voice carrying over the empty courtyard. "If you won't listen to reason, I'll just have to speak the only language you've ever understood!" He fired another shot as the group began to scramble out of the way, the sound of the gunshot deafening and echoing in the air.

"Getting antsy now? Is it because you can't kill me? Or has it just been a while since your last hit of smack?" Mao punched that last word by yanking the chain back.

He realized he was acting very unlike himself, but he had never been kidnapped and put into a death game before. So taunting his captor was an exceptional circumstance where he may act a little... childish.

Mei was about to shout something back, but then the shots whizzed past her. She looks up in a hurry and spots Taikong, which came as an utter surprise. Much as she wanted to resist, she was shortly after forced to be dragged along despite her attempts at digging her feet in. While fumbling with the handcuff chain in futility, she yells, "Y-- You don't have to do this for someone like me! Just... think about yourself and go!"

Unfortunately that was a poor judgement call: running out into the open instead of the cover of the watchtower made Juanli an easy target. A bullet impacted the ground just in front of her, cutting her off. "You're all complicit! Right now every one of you thinks Mei is the one who set this game up. I won't let you escape just so you can call people here to persecute her!" he screamed, adjusting to fire a few more shots Mao's way, keeping him pinned behind cover. He didn't seem to have any intention of answering Mao's questions.

Juanli skidded to a halt impressively in her heels as the bullet pinged off the ground in front of her. She tried to turn back to run for cover but her legs weren't responding as fear had overtaken her. "M-M-Mr Sun!" she cried holding her hands up and dropping the hammer at her side. "I didn't agree with the General, if anything I think he's gone senile. I p-promise I won't turn Mei in, I don't think she's done ANYTHING." she pleaded, her eyes growing wide and wet as she began to cry in fright. "I just want to go see my boy...what do we need to do?" she kept trying to will her legs to run but they were still frozen in fear.

"I want Mei to go free. None of you are leaving until that happens," Sun Taikong responded to Juanli, swapping his sniper out for one of the assault rifles and drawing closer. He felt safe now that Mao had destroyed the only gun that could have been used against him.
