Juna looked at Lynde somewhat incredulously before whispering back, "We'll wait and see, but I'm not trusting that man and neither should you," she pointed out, going back to glaring at the poor detective, "I'm sure that those eccentric and friendly looks are a honeypot...!" She quietly seethed.

"Many thanks for the towel, sir!", Det. Erhardt said, wiping off the excess snow from his shoulders and drying his hair. He makes no attempt at cleaning up the trail of snow in his wake, which is quickly forming a rather large puddle in the entryway. "I'd certainly like to think I'm a master, but my colleagues may disagree ohoho! You are Mr. Lynde, correct?

"To put it bluntly Mr. Brandauer, you are currently the department's prime suspect in a fatal hit-and-run that took place in August. We have an informant who has implicated one of your vehicles in the accident, and that it the evidence was later illegally destroyed. These are very serious charges so the department sent me to clear this issue up immediately."

"No, nothing like that, I'm just surprised to hear Friedrich might be involved in something that serious," Verrier replied. "Especially a car-related accident, of all things... Forgive me, I didn't mean to be misleading."

"This is quite the shocking accusation to make, detektive", Edna remarked, quite aghast. "Are you quite sure you have the right man? I simply cannot believe that Fritz would do something quite like this, to say the least."

Lynde slowly nodded at Juna's actually whispered warning, before responding to the Detective.

"You are correct. And it isn't hard to deduce so I'm not impressed." Lynde said, now putting on a cool façade.

"Sounds like there may be a problem with the boat's engine. I'll take a look and see what I can do, detective. It may take a few minutes, though..." Harley replied as he cross his arms.

And then he heard that Fritz may have been involved in a hit-and-run incident.

"Uh..." Harley mutters, at a complete loss for words. He didn't know what to say next as he listen to the ongoing discussion.

"A hit and run?" Ingrid repeated, looking at Fritz with suspicion. In contrast to most of the family, it's pretty clear she's more than willing to consider he really did it.

Juna simply pointed out the mess forming at the detektiv's feet by snarkily pointing at it with her right finger and a fully extended arm.

"Hmm..? Oh! So sorry for the mess, let me get that!". The detektiv made an earnest effort at mopping up the mess, but the towel was already pretty well soaked, so he really just made a bigger mess of things. He remains blissfully unaware of this, and believes himself to be helping tremendously.

“Excuse me?” Fritz roared, “I’ve done nothing of the sort! Frankly, how dare you come into our family home in the middle of our reunion to throw around ludicrous claims like that? In front of my wife and child, no less!”

At that moment, Fritz recalled that he was the one who spurred his chance to make the discussion private, but he thought it better to gloss over that detail.

“Late August, you say?” Fritz continued, his confident grin returning in full. “I believe that was the same month that my car was stolen. I was location scouting in London at the time. If there’s anyone you should be looking for, it’s that car thief, but thank you for wasting our time either way.”

An explosion can be heard from the dock. All that remains of the dock and the boat is a pile of flaming, floating ash. The detektiv doesn’t seem to notice the change.

Mia certainly noticed the change; she jumped up from her seat with a yelp. "W-was that the boathouse?"

She quickly rushed toward the door to see whether the ship that brought them there was still intact.

On the bright side the ship that had brought them there already went back to the mainland. The boathouse also seemed mostly unharmed, but the police boat was sinking in the water.

The snow seemed to be picking up. It might be some time before anybody could get them.

"Excuse me just one moment, Detektiv Erhardt..." Julia, who has definitely been existing this whole time, smiled sheepishly at the detective as she quietly approached with a dry cloth to place on the puddle and quickly retreated to wherever Juna is with the damp one.

She was too invested in hearing about what happens to put the towel away, though.

She jumped a little upon hearing the explosion and grabbed at her necklace. "O-oh dear, that can't be good...."

Erik, who had quietly been paying very close attention to the conversation between his father and the detective, jumped and let out a small, surprised yelp as the thunderous boom of the boat's explosion. Once he got his bearings, he followed after Mia, breathing a sigh of a relief as he saw that the boathouse itself was unharmed.

"How did he even-- even manage to get here in that...?" he wondered aloud. "Guess that, uh, that means we have another guest, h-huh? I mean, I know we don't know him, but we can't exactly leave him out in the snow or try to force him to swim back to the mainland; that'd be inhumane."

Upon hearing the explosion, Harley was startled, eyes wide open.

"What was that?! That wasn't the boat that you used to come here, right, detective?" Harley asked before he rush to the door to see what was going on.

After seeing what have happened outside, Harley turns to the detective.

"I was going to check on the boat after you said the boat's engine was having some trouble... But then you told me the symptoms that the boat's engine was displaying... You knew this was going to happen?" He asked, a shocked expression on his face.

"Detekiv," Jolina hesitantly states. "Since you cannot leave the island and neither can Mr. Friedrich, I do believe that the police business can wait, no? At least until you can be taken back to the mainland. This hardly seems like the ideal situation to be conduction official business."

Fritz is cut off by the explosion in the background. After a slight pause, he continues unabated.

“On my holiday...and don’t even think about dragging my wife and son into this!”

Fritz finally turned away from the detective and glanced toward the window.

"So the Great Detective is forced to lounge with us?" Raphael remarked, drumming his fingers on the table. "What a dramatic turn of events."

He then added, under his breath, "It's a good thing we got all the scandal out of the way before his arrival..."

Agnes looks over at the Detective, and glances at her family slowly. She keeps herself small and silent to avoid any other strange confrontations like earlier. Then, she looks out the window and stares at the dock (if it's visible but if Fritz can see it so can I darnit)

"I wonder... if he's going to have to stay... Do we have any empty rooms?" She mumbles to herself quietly, probably too quiet for the detective to hear her, but possibly some family sitting nearby noticed.

"Oh dear... At this rate, even if we contact the mainland, they probably won't be able to send a boat over," Verrier commented, staring out the window. "Nor an aircraft, for that matter." He slapped his fan against his palm. "Detective, I take it you came here alone? We're not leaving some hapless colleague out in the cold, are we?"

"The snow looks like it's getting pretty bad." Ingrid said, brushing off some snow Mia didn't notice on her shoulder. "We do have a vacant room in the guest house, but..."

She was referring to, of course, the room Gideon's corpse was discovered in.

"If Lynde stays in the larger guest bedroom alongside Agnes and Erik like he usually does during these reunions, then his own bedroom will be free," Verrier pointed out, having obsessively studied maps of the island and its two main buildings for some reason. "So if Mr Erhardt stays overnight, he can use that one instead. Best leave the other in... well, you know what they say about preserving crime scenes. Given Gideon's still-unsolved riddle, it seems especially prudent."

Meta doesn't look up at the sound of the explosion. She swirls around her coffee, watching the color change darker and lighter.

Finally, something makes her stand up and she turns to Erik. "Oh, please don't answer anything you don't have to. That goes for your parents as well," she nods to Cici and Fritz. "It is expected that you would speak to an attorney privately first. In addition, it doesn't seem like the Detektiv is in a rush, so I would rather get to it tomorrow."

"Why don't we continue this discussion in the morning, Detektiv?" She asks.

Lynde furrowed his brows at this and responded much more then the simple glance of curiosity he had given for the explosion.

"I have many projects that I am working on in my room at the moment, and I absolutely could not let someone stay in my room without me...." He then trailed off and looked at Verrier "Excuse me, why do you think you can give my room to the Detektiv exactly Verrier? Do you think that no one has moved anything in the other guest room in two years?"

Often the press can complicate cases, and we try as best we can especially in sensitive cases like homicides. I will need to ensure their alibis as well I'm afraid, its procedure..."

Various exclamations at the boat explosion

Det. Erhardt seemingly remains unaware of any explosion, but is taken aback by the sudden commotion in the room.

"Knew what was going to happen?", Erhardt asks quizzically. He paces over to the window, where it seems most of the onlookers have gathered, and finally notices the distinct lack of boats.

"Oh god, the chief won't be happy about that! Apologies for the dock Mrs. Brandauer, you can bill the department for the expense. I had no idea it was in such a state Mr. Harley, I'm not very mechanically inclined unfortunately. Thank goodness you hadn't gone to fix it yet!"

Quote:
Various comments about sleeping arrangements in light of the Detektiv's stranding on the island

"I'd hate to cause any further chaos, so I'll procure my own sleeping arrangements. Luckily, all police vessels are standard-equipped with emergency survival equipment, and I always prepare for any eventuality when travelling!"

Seemingly on cue, two unreasonably large and unreasonably orange waterproof bags pop out from below the surface of the water and bob serenely among the wreckage. They are pushed to shore by the waves, which have become rather choppy thanks to the storm.

"Well, I'd better go make camp and radio the department to update them on the situation, our conversation will have to wait until tomorrow Mr. Brandauer. Apologies again for the intrusion, enjoy your meal!"

And with that, the detektiv was gone as fast as he'd arrived. Onlookers could see him bounding through the fast-accumulating snowdrifts to recover his gear from the shore.

"No, uh, I'm, ahem, pretty sure he was real, Dad," Erik helpfully answered, having returned from looking at the remains of the explosion (from a distance, of course). "... So... are we still having lamb?" he asked after a brief pause, clearly trying to change the subject.

“Right. Okay,” Fritz said, nodding to himself. He ran a hand down his face and sighed.

“Well, I’m not exactly comfortable with that fellow spending the night here,” Fritz continued, “I’m mostly concerned he’ll burn the house down while we sleep. But I suppose we can’t exactly turn him out in the cold. Just please keep him in the guesthouse.”

“Really though,” he mumbled, glancing toward Juna. “Where’s that lamb?”
