Mia jumped slightly, not expecting the sudden contact, then chuckled in embarrassment, faint blush on her face. "Oh, t-thanks..." she mumbled bashfully.

She stayed quiet during the ensuing discussions culminating in the detektiv dashing off into the snowstorm. "Um... we really shouldn't leave him out in that, huh..." she mused aloud. "I don't mind sharing a room with Ingrid; it'll free up a room for him..."

Everybody quietly eats the lamb. Some very much enjoy it, while others have too much on their mind to enjoy it fully.

The presence of the officer makes some things awkward to say the least, and many people start heading to their rooms or the parlor instead of finishing out the courses, their moods ultimately more sour than they may have let on.

“Darn. Everybody left.” Harley sighed, quietly finishing his vegetables.

Spoiler: Edna and Juna
Edna quietly ranted to Juna about how awfully she was being treated at the dinner. Juna listened, nodding along as Edna spoke.

“I know it’s none of my business Ma’am… but is any of it true?”

Quietly, Edna looked out the window. She tried to think of the tactful response to say to her friend, but couldn’t muster the words.

“I loved Gideon… that much I promise is true.”

….

10:00 PM

Snowymood

Harley set up guide poles between the two houses, a rope connecting each pole. The snowstorm was getting much stronger, but as long as people followed the poles nobody would get lost between the houses.

People were beginning to turn to bed. Earlier it was decided the Detektiv would sleep in Mia’s room and Mia would join Ingrid in Agnes’ room. People had spent the two hour block doing whatever, and nobody has a concrete alibi for the entire period.

Verrier roamed the halls of the first floor, looking uncharacteristically pissed off.

Not feeling particularly well, Edna stepped out of her room. Hoping to get some fresh... mansion air(?), she went down to the first floor only to run into Verrier, who was pacing through the halls. "Oh, erm- Can I help you, Doctor?" She asked him, noting his infuriated expression. "Are you... looking for something, perchance?"

Verrier shook his head. "Someone," he explained impatiently. "You wouldn't happen to have seen Albrecht around would you? I can't seem to find him."

"A-Albrecht? No, I can't say I have", Edna replied, a little shaken by his question. "Did he just... leave? Chair and all? How long ago was this? Did you ask Heinrich if he saw anything? Maybe he noticed something." Question after question kept pouring. Verrier seemed to have alarmed her by going this route.

"How do you lose track of father?" Ingrid, who had just walked out of the kitchen and caught the last bit of that conversation, asked Verrier. "It's been years since I've seen him go anywhere without you."

"It's not like we're together all the time," Verrier snapped at Ingrid. "I left him in his room so I could attend to other affairs and give him some privacy." He then addressed Edna. "I guess... I last saw him around 2 hours ago? But I didn't notice him missing until more recently. You're right, I should check with Heinrich too... but where could master have even gone? He can't climb up or down any stairs and there's no way he went outside in this cold." Quite unlike his usual collected persona, he wasn't thinking straight now.

Lynde began to throw on his jacket and boots as he loudly asked anyone who cared to respond, "I'm going to run to the guest house to get a board game. Any preferences between Top Secret Spies, Scotland Yard, or Cluedo?"

The group could faintly hear Fritz shouting from the floor above.

“Shut the fuck up, you creep!” he roared.

This was immediately followed by a dull thump and then silence.

Meta steps out of her room (which is pseudo-canonically nearby the main hall), it seems she overheard the conversation. She is dressed in bedclothes, but she holds a coffee in her hands, seemingly unwilling yet to go to sleep.

“Oh, was that Fritz? Maybe he found Albrecht,” she heads up the staircase to check Fritz’s room.

The detektiv had quickly given up on making camp in the frozen landscape, and took up residence in the guest room. The half-assembled bright orange survival gear was still sticking out of the snow. He'd gotten quite a dressing-down from the chief over radio when he reported the boat's demise, but this hadn't seemed to dim his spirits.

Erik was interrupted as he heard his father's muffled yelling, and his eyes widened with concern as he craned his neck up to look at the floor above him. Or, well, the ceiling.

"Dad...?" he mumbled before rushing up the stairs to check on him, careful not to hit Meta on his way there.

Harley was wandering the first floor, apparently looking for a servant. He notices the small group that is forming slowly and joined them.

"Hey, do any of you know where one of the servants is? I needed to ask them for some fresh batteries..." Harley said before noticing the expressions on their faces. "Huh? Did something happened? Can someone fill me in on what is going on?"

Someone eventually filled Harley in on what was going on. He looks concerned shortly after that.

"Father's missing? That's concerning. I haven't seen him at all."

Just then, his group heard Fritz's shouting come from the second floor.

"What the heck?! That sounds like Fritz, wasn't it?" Harley asked as he follows the others up to the second floor to check on Fritz.

"A servant is missing too now? And, wait, if the detective is here, then who's Fritz arguing with?" Ingrid asked, quickly joining the group going upstairs where presumably the rest of this scene awaits.

Nobody except Fritz is in Fritz's room. Verrier doesn't particularly care for his explanation after seeing that Albrecht isn't there and continues his search.

After a quick sweep of the second floor, there was only one room left: the third floor study. Verrier was not optimistic about their chances of finding Albrecht in there, but he went up to check regardless. He is followed closely by anybody online.

He twisted the knob, the door only budging an inch before getting caught on the chain lock.

"That's weird... Nobody ever uses the study except for Gideon... Well, until his passing two years ago... If the door was blocked by the chain, then..." Harley mutters. "Do you think father's in there?"

"We'd need something to cut the chain. I'd rather not break down the door." He said.

"Hold on." Ingrid stepped forward with a blank expression and tested the chain, seeing if it could be undone from the outside.

"... It's looking like a real closed room. We'll need to cut this."

"This isn't about to be one of Gideon's closed-room mysteries! We don't know that anyone's dead!" Verrier shouted, not that anyone had outright suggested that yet. "Hey! Wake up, whoever's in there!" he yelled through the crack again. It didn't seem like he was going to be of any help.

Without listening to any other suggestion, Verrier took the situation into his own hands. He quickly smashed his shoulder against the partially open door, taking the chain clean off the wall.

The wheelchair was the first thing that entered everyone's view--collapsed onto its side. And then there was the crumpled form of Albrecht, eyes closed, mouth drooling. His already paled corpse made the story clear... he was dead.

Verrier rushed forward, not believing it. He took Albrecht's pulse and silently cursed to himself. "Call the police! An ambulance, anything!"

Everybody filed out of the staircase. Verrier left the study as well for a moment, trying out a phone but the lines were dead. It wasn't long until everybody in the mansion was informed of what had happened.

Meta finishes off her coffee and sighs, “Verrier, do you know what happened to Albrecht, at least?”

“My condolences to everyone,” she bows a little to the family members. Albrecht of course was Meta’s friend but she doesn’t show any distress out of respect for those closer to him.

Edna was panicking, ready to shriek at the top of her voice. Despite not having gotten along with Albrecht at all, his death still left her considerably shaken. "W-what on earth happened to him?! How did he get up there? Doctor, you checked his body, y-yes? Was his death...?"

She stopped herself, though it was clear what she was going to ask.

Was Albrecht murdered by somebody in this mansion?

"G-Grandfather...!" Agnes stays by the door and extends an arm out, not approaching him, but clearly still distressed.

"No... How did this happen...? H-how did he..." A few stray tears began to roll down her cheeks. Despite the way he treated her in life, he seemed to have still meant a lot to Agnes. Make her sad while alive, and make her sad when you die. How cruel.

Verrier was clearly shaken, but did his best to remain professional, perhaps recalling his medical training. "It was a heart attack. He had a pre-existing heart condition, and was taking nitroglycerin for it." The others might recall him taking this medicine on various occasions, including back during the funeral. "Not, in itself, cause to believe foul play. However... The obvious question is, how did he even end up here, wheelchair and all?" The professional tone seemed to be keeping his emotions in check, but he kept clenching and unclenching a fist as he concluded his report. He was clearly deeply shaken by what had happened.

Ingrid seemed lost in thought, not even acknowledging most of everyone else present. The stiff smile she'd had on all day was replaced by a more natural, if puzzled expression. "... Would it be possible to induce a heart attack on him? To make it seem natural? But then why move the body..."

"... Ah. Mia, are you alright?" she asked, putting a hand on her shoulder. She was far more concerned about her friend seeing a corpse than her father being dead.

"Damn... Why'd father have to die?" Harley asked as he leans against a wall. Tears were pouring out of his eyes and a pained look on his face.

Even though Harley and his siblings have to put up with their father's cruel behavior, they managed to find success in life. But now with Albrecht's death... It seems to have hit harder.

"Father..." He mumbles to himself quietly.

Just then, Detektiv Erhardt comes barrelling into the room with a large metal briefcase. "This is a crime scene!" he declares, as though nobody else had noticed this yet. "Everyone should back up and let the professionals handle this. Dr. Verrier, would you please help me examine and move the body?" The detektiv then begins stringing up CRIME SCENE - DO NOT CROSS tape all around the study, seemingly without rhyme or reason. Once he runs out of tape, he puts down the case and produces a foolishly large magnifying glass and notepad, and begins taking overly-detailed notes about everything in the room.

The study is rather large and is much like the bedrooms. It has a work area, its own bed, and a bathroom. The only apparent entrances and exits are the window and door. The window is locked, of course.

The bottle of nitroglycerin is a few feet from Albrecht's corpse, just out of his reach.

Verrier winced, but nodded. "I've already examined what I can, but I'll help move him. I'm already used to carrying his weight in my time as his carer."

"D-Do you guys really think there was foul play? That someone would actually... murder Grandfather?" Erik worriedly asked. "Normally I'd want to doubt it, but... how did he get up here, wheelchair and all? Maybe someone helped him up here to kill him...?"

He turned to Fritz, worriedly eyeing him.
