Everyone could very faintly hear Ingrid screaming, but since it wasn't plot relevant they all ignored it.

"And there it is!" Gideon smiled as he updated the book. "I left some parts vague, but I'm sure Fritz or Raphael will fill you in on those details. Maybe Heinrich too--but he doesn't seem to be much of a talker."

"And here I was, feeling guilty. Not that this undoes my own sins, far from it, but I'm a sinner among sinners it would seem," Verrier commented. "I think I see, now, why the Gideon here was so eager to write this all up as a story."

Edna had mostly been in the background up till this point, but upon seeing the story get updated, the look on her face considerably darkened. "So this was... the truth...."

She turned towards Fritz and Raphael. "Would either of you care to elaborate on this?" She spoke coldly, in a tone that nobody had ever heard her speak in before. It seemed she meant business now.

“Even after all the mysteries have basically been solved, Gideon’s ghost still has to pop up and cause trouble, I see,” Raphael sighed. “We didn’t ‘conspire to kill’ Gideon. In fact, it was the complete opposite. There was a storm, we told Gideon not to go out, he did anyway, and—it ended poorly. We covered up his death and lied to you all, but we didn’t kill him.”

"Oh, my mistake!" Edna snapped furiously. "That's much less worse, isn't it?! Oh, and I do believe you were also responsible for all those ghastly phone calls I kept receiving in the middle of the night?! All this time, I had no idea what had happened to my husband and why he couldn't meet me and..." She paused, turning away. "Perhaps what you are going to get was a long time coming, after all..." She remarked somewhat ominously. "After all this time, who would have thought... Then again, I shouldn't be so surprised. I've been nothing but the punching bag of the family ever since I joined. Juna was right about you all, I just chose not to heed it."

“You’re right, Edna,” Raphael said. “We didn’t accept you, but it was wrong and we should have. After all, you’re just as much of a fucked up monster as any thoroughbred von Brandauer. The same goes for Juna, Dr. Verrier, and pretty much everyone on that damn island.”

"This was never about you, Edna," Fritz said, a look of resignation of his face. "I know that hardly means anything. But all those phone messages were from a massive repository that Gideon himself created. Perhaps he wanted you to hear them."

"I...I would have never considered any of this if not for the show," Fritz explained, "As much as I hate to say it, that show wouldn't have survived without Gideon around to back it. If I could just hit syndication, I'd be alright. I could foot the bill for Erik's education. He would get the life that he deserved. I don't know that I even kept most of that money. It was all for him. You can see how that turned out..."

Fritz took a seat near the edge of the room and rubbed the bridge of his nose. His shoulders slumped, and he let out an exhausted sigh.

"Do I like that I had to do it? Of course not," he mumbled. "Do I regret it? ...I'm not sure I'm prepared to answer that question."

"Maybe in the end...I just wasn't ready to accept that Gideon was gone."

Lynde was having the time of his (After?)life, still enjoying everything that happened in the story, until Albrecht and Juna died. After that, he became more subdued.

"Well, it can certainly be said that the Von Brandauer's always leave a mark, wouldn't you all say? I personally never would have had the opportunity to ever craft mysteries such as the one's that you have all beheld! I would have been left to making diorama's of state approved novels behind the Iron Curtain if not for Gideon. Instead, I got to stump the First Family of Mystery for years with a real locked room! Gideon gave me the idea and resources to make Doll masks and it took the introduction of Red Truths for you to solve my mysteries!" Lynde seemed genuinely warmed by this.
"Do you know, that I have always thought my skills as a craftsman and dollmaker were infinitely less valuable than the writing of a mystery? I always adored those that could actually craft mysteries instead of emulate them, but when Gideon gave me the chance to make one... and told me that he trusted his legacy to me? That was the day I truly realized what I could be. "

“I think we might be better off explaining this slowly.” Gideon suggested. “Things might get confusing to follow, I’ll share some of the blame for being misleading with the ballroom scene. So how about one of you start from the beginning—when, who, what?”

"...Yes, please do." Agnes nodded in agreement with her father's suggestion. "I would very much like to hear every last detail. Please."

She almost sounded desperate, despite silently watching the others converse for so long. She seemed fully engrossed in their words, at least.

The room fell silent for a few moments, but Fritz eventually began to speak.

"It was in the summer of 1984," he explained, "Probably around the middle of July. I was here at Geistfabel with Gideon, Heinrich, and Meta. Raphael was also there, I guess, but Edna and Agnes were gone. We got trapped there by an massive storm, and just as we were nearly done with preparations, Gideon walked out of the door. He stepped into the ocean and just...got swept away.

"When we finally found him, he was already gone. I must have tried CPR for nearly an hour, but it didn't do any good. He was really dead.

"That night, I expressed concerns about Gideon's death, and what it would do to Gustav Grimsley's show. I asked the other three to keep the whole thing quiet. Surprisingly enough, they agreed, and we decided to split the returns from the show. We even gave Agnes and Edna some of the cut...but only through private donations.

"We were only able to pull it off because of that collection of Gideon's voice recordings. It was Meta who pointed us to that. How she knew about it or why it even existed, I'm not sure. But we could use those to fake phone calls and send the occasional letters, all to keep up the illusion that Gideon was alive and simply traveling..."

Fritz paused for a moment, signaling that he was about to skip over a two-year period.

"Then March 1st, 1986. We decided it was time to end the whole charade...so we had to make it look like a dead man had been murdered.

"When we ate dinner that night, we claimed that Gideon was with us. Of course, he wasn't. When Edna showed up, er...Meta knocked her out with a sleeping drug and put her in the bedroom. The next day, we all told her she kissed Gideon good night. Of course, she didn't.

"Ingrid and Mia showing up was unexpected. We just had to hide Gideon's corpse until they went to sleep. At 2 AM, Heinrich and I met up to move Gideon's body to this amazing locked room I set up...Unfortunately, the corpse was gone, and none of us know why.

"The next day, we found Gideon dead in the guest room with his face smashed in. As for why the hell that happened, we're just as clueless as the rest of you."

Fritz fell silent. He leaned back in his chair, closing his eyes. It seemed the story was complete, and there was nothing more to add.

"Oh, that's fascinating!" Lynde perked up.

"So it was you who told me to lie about his whereabouts for two years!" then he stops for a moment and cocks his head.
"So, Gideon was in that freezer for two years?" Lynde shook his head and then started again.
"Let me start at the beginning. Gideon asked me to create the ultimate legacy for him when he was diagnosed with Brandauers, and with his and Angelo's help, I did. The tomb. I didn't see him for two years, but heard from him via letters and phone calls saying i should lie and say I had seen him. This seemed par for the course at the time, but now I have a different perspective on these messages, obviously." Lynde shot looks around before he continued.

"The night the body was found, I Obviously lied about seeing him at dinner. Instead Gideon's ghost came to me and told me it was time. He was in the freezer. So I took his corpse into my room where I hid him and smashed his face. I then went to the guest room with the bunker's entrance where I had hidden my Gideon Decoy life sized doll. I was anticipating Ingrid's insane use of tape on that door, so once that happened, I simply placed the decoy and waited. In the morning when the door was unsealed and his body found, there was a few moments I had to make the switch when no one saw me, but I managed it. After that it was easy. I used a well crafted mask to disguise Angelo as Gideon, hence why i had to disfigure the corpse. Angelo was interred in the tomb, then came out as soon as everyone left the Island.

That brings us forward two years to the reunion. until the morning, the most unusual thing I did was let Angelo know that a detektiv had come to the island so he should keep a low profile. But then in the morning I found Raphael's friend dead in his room while I was alone at the guesthouse, and when i took the mask off i realized he had been an imposter. I realized that this would be the perfect finale to the tomb, so I borrowed a Master key from Juna, ran away when we were shot at in the snow and began my plan. I incinerated Raph's friend, I then charred Gideon's real body. I then brought the ashes of the imposter to the tomb, threw them around, put on a mask, shot myself in the shoulder, took the fake death poison, and that's everything." Lynde finished and then drank an entire can of redbull after spewing out all that information.

Erik, who totally existed this whole time, finally decided to break his silence -- which was mainly out of rage, shock, and bewilderment at the truths that had been revealed. Totally. Good for him!

"... So you just... covered up Uncle Gideon's death, Dad?" he incredulously asked. "All because you were afraid of what would happen to your show? So-- so instead of coming forward to the family -- and ESPECIALLY his wife and daughter -- and explaining that it was a freak accident... you lied. To all of us. You gaslighted Aunt Edna and Agnes into believing he was just... just abroad or something."

He indignantly scoffed, looking thoroughly enraged.

"I'm not proud of myself for what I did. But I at least WANTED to come forward. ... How could you, Dad? I thought... I thought you were better than that."

"Even you, Lynde..." Edna sighed. She didn't have the want to utter anything more to those people she considered so putrid now. Instead, she gave a heartbroken look to the ghost of her dead husband. She didn't say anything, but the look on her face was enough.

Was it really worth it, Gideon?

"When you were talking with Agnes, but refused to return to the island, yes," Verrier summarised. "You've said, in red, that 'Gideon is dead', but at this point I can't for the life of me figure out when that happened. Scheme within scheme within scheme to fake your death to various people. I'm losing track. Who was it that gave Agnes the gift for Ingrid, anyway? Who wrote the note, which accounted for events that happened that very day, in your handwriting? Ingrid said the writing was unmistakable."

Erik’s words seemed to deal a heavy blow to Fritz’s gut.

“Is that really how you feel, son?” he said. “You have to know that it wasn’t easy for me. I wouldn’t have considered it if it wasn’t the only option I had left. If I showed any sign of weakness, the TV industry would have kicked me to the curb and ground me under its heel. At least, that’s what I kept telling myself.”

He ignored Lynde’s comment, not actually aware if he was involved with the letters he received.

“That’s the problem with deception, I guess. No amount of ingenious planning will make it any easier to live with yourself.”

He continued to stare at the floor. But rather than steeped in melancholy, his expression seemed hard with resolve.

"Well I can't repeat in red that 'that was Gideon's handwriting'--but it is still a hint in of itself." Gideon smiled. "You know firsthand how dubious any scene with 'Gideon' is, but Agnes received a genuine physical card today. Not to mention that the Gideon she met with in 1985 collected one of her stories.

"But just to be clear. My 'life' was faked by the conspirators from 1984-1986, using letters and phone recordings. These were especially meant for Edna, Agnes, and Lynde, but Lynde was the only one who didn't buy into it. And then he based in my corpse's face to make it easier to accept that the corpse in the funeral coffin could be me. Hmmm, maybe it is a little more complicated than I thought?" Gideon laughed, "Regardless, the only real mystery is the card as mentioned. There is still a trick at play here."

He yawned and stretched his arms. "Well then, we can put that all behind us regardless. Once you all agree that Edna is the final killer, we can close this story."

"I'm sure the note left for me was in your handwriting... and if I'm so certain about mine, I doubt Ingrid would have mistaken the writing on her card..." Mia frowned. "So either you wrote both of those four years in advance, or somehow someone was able to perfectly forge your handwriting..."

Agnes seemed to have run off someplace after quickly letting everyone know "I'm going to find Aunt Ingird, no matter what!"

It seemed like she wouldn't be around to deal with these totally sick purple texts because she's too busy going down into the depths of hell, slowly but surely...

"Gideon..." Edna looked away, paling. "What did I ever do to you? I was willing to prove to you just what a loyal wife I was for all these years, and this is how you treat me in return? Do you hate me so, that you wish you send me to the pits of Hell? After all of this? You and Agnes were the only reasons I was still living on..." Juna looked rather sullen during Juna's small speech and chose to not intervene, simply choosing to nod.

"I wonder what those purple words are. Not like there's much else to do in the afterlife," she grumbled.

"Ah, those are purple truths! You can basically consider them red truths, except culprits can lie. A culprit is somebody who's killed from the beginning of the final chapter to the "end"--the scene where Jolina accuses Edna. So if a character isn't a culprit, even an assumption or a guess should be equivalent to a red truth. But pay attention to the wording. 'When' someone said something might matter, and saying someone 'could've' done something is certainly different from saying they did do it--the former might be valid as a red, while the latter wouldn't be." Gideon closed the book, hoping the explanation was satisfactory.

"If there are any certain purples that you think are problematic, I'll answer questions on them. Maybe I'll even graduate a few to reds to make things easier if needed hehe. Oh and of course a culprit can tell the truth. Thought that might go without saying."

Gideon gave a few more rules:
- A culprit can lie before committing murder.
- Someone who isn't a culprit must tell the truth.
- Characters who aren't culprits can't cooperate with the culprit.
- The narration for the final segment has no lies.

"What did you ever do to me?" Gideon shook his head. "I think you good and well know the answer to that. Regardless, I am simply being fair. I can't give special treatment to a murderer just because they're my wife."

There's no changing it. We have other things to focus on now."

He turned towards Gideon, a resolved look in his eyes. Like father, like son, it seemed.

"So these purple truths... If someone is proven innocent without a doubt, would all of their purple truths turn into red ones instead?"

I'd rather start with a solid footing, then challenge that assumption later if we're desperate. If Jolina is innocent, there is only one culprit, she said as much in purple. The default conclusion here is that Edna is this culprit, as that is what all the data seems to point to. If that's true, then we're done here, there would be nothing to discuss. Therefore for the sake of discussion, we should start with the opposite as our primary assumption: Edna is innocent," Verrier declared, looking around at the others. "We will explore everything this entails. If we get nowhere, it is reasonably safe to conclude that either Edna is the culprit, or that Jolina is a culprit and we're in a lot of trouble.

"First things first, I had a question. Angelo claimed 'Nobody can lock any of the doors without the keys.' Does this mean we can rule out doors being locked manually from the inside, which was the answer to most of the locked rooms before?"

“Ah, forgive me.” Gideon said sheepishly. “Doors can still be locked from the inside. Given the context of the conversation, I only meant that something other than a key such as a lockpick could not lock the door.

“I’ve adjusted that purple more accurately. Please forgive me—I was afraid people may be getting impatient waiting for this part...”

Verrier nodded. "The setups are par for the course with most of the previous ones, then. Next: is there any distinction between bullet wounds caused by the rifle or Christof's gun? Can we rule out there being additional guns on Geistfabel?"

The only guns are the four hunting rifles and Christof’s pistol. Of course Erik’s was smashed and Albrecht’s was lost forever. The bullet wounds can’t be distinguished without a more thorough examination, but of course I deliberately wanted to leave it vague.” Gideon confessed. “Of course even if Christof’a pistol was used for any incident, it does not eliminate Edna as a suspect.”

"The four rifles initially went to Erik, Mia, Jolina, and Lynde. Erik's was smashed, Mia's was thrown out the window and eventually fell into the sea alongside Albrecht, and Jolina's was taken by Edna and is the current choice for the murder weapon. Lynde's is unaccounted for, though Jolina (who I'm assuming is innocent) said he hasn't killed anyone. Still, the gun is at large and the purple truth regarding the rifles - '[Edna] is the only one of us here with a working rifle' - has room for ambiguity," Verrier said.
