He shuts his eyes and proceeds to talk. "I don't quite know what you're hoping to accomplish. This isn't the first knife fight I've been through in the ring. You've already lost your head, it'd be a shame if you lost something else."
He spoke confidently, but the man did have a knife to his neck, so he was indeed sweating nervously.

Mallow, however, was of course in there with them, and decided to improve the situation by jumping onto Lady's head and screeching like a banshee. He didn't have a knife, but his claws were still plenty sharp.

Prologue, Part 2
The winds outside were truly horrendous. Philip and one of the other guests, Ingram, braved the weather and checked on the situation. They passed by the manor's private helicopter, and both agreed it would be impossible to fly in this weather. They then took Ingram's car and drove partway down the mountain, but were met with a shocking sight: the only bridge away from the area had been destroyed. The winds must have been too much for it, they reckoned. Ingram chided his friend John's lack of foresight, to have organised the party for this weekend despite the forecast.
Meanwhile, Betty headed off to phone the police, accompanied by another guest, Posey. The line was unresponsive. Posey suggested they call on her mobile, but the mountaintop manor was too remote to receive a signal. Betty pragmatically suggested they check the internet connection, but this was down too. There was no way to contact the police, nor anyone else in the outside world.
They regrouped to share the news, then found the others to inform them. Last to be told were the four in the library, as well as John further inside the manor in a guest room. Philip and Betty were elsewhere at this point, so Ingram and Posey broke the news.
"...so you see, there's no way for anyone to leave."
"Nor can the police reach this place."
"Not that we can contact them in the first place..."
"This is a right old mess."
"We'll just have to wait for the winds to die down."
"Then the butler can fly and get help."
"Oh my..."
"This got pretty serious all of a sudden, huh?"
"It was already pretty serious to begin with, though..."
Ingram and Posey moved on to inform John, though they had to yell through the door to communicate. Ingram, who was John's friend, did most of the talking this time.
"It's a pretty bad situation."
"I don't suppose you've got any suggestions?"
"We must weather the storm!"
"If you have any sense, you'll do as I do."
"I refuse to be killed before the police can arrive and settle matters!"
"At this point we have no idea how long we'll be waiting for."
"It's unreasonable to stay cooped up for that long!"
"Though I know I won't be going anywhere without at least two people with me from now on."
"Do as you think right, as will I!"
"At the end of the day, we will see which of us had the right idea."

It didn't seem like they could persuade him to leave. Ingram sighed, then returned with Posey to the library.

In the library, another limbo period began. Feeling uncomfortable with the dead body lying there, the six living people in the room decided to move to the adjacent guest corridor to talk. As it was a limbo period, the correct chain of events was preserved, and Deid's body would remain under watch when time began flowing again.

They had already seen this man, of course, but only through a screen of sorts; he'd never seen them in turn. He stared at them all suspiciously, though whatever he was picking up on, the other living guests seemed unaware.
"Hey now, no making enemies with people we've only just met!"
"Nice to meet you. I'm Ness Wit."
"Truly a pleasure. My name's Ino Cente."
"Don't mind Noxx. He's an interesting man, but you get used to him."
"(...I still haven't gotten used to him...)"
"Um, call me Ali. Ali Bye. Don't mind me, I'm no-one special."
There were quite a few people here this time, but the dead got the vague impression they weren't going to be all that important. Lastly, they knocked on John's door to get an introduction with the main man himself.
"What? What is it?"
"You need no introduction from me!"
"Everyone here already knows my name."
"If you really want to talk, I won't stop you. It's a free country."
"But I'm still not going to open this door. You'll just have to shout."
They couldn't see John, of course, but the dead had already gotten a look at him earlier. He was a proud, imposing man, unhindered by his age. It was hard to imagine him owning a cat, but Betty had said that Mallow was his, so maybe he played with him sometimes.

The man Posey introduced had spoken with a pronounced German accent. He almost seemed familiar somehow, but it was likely just a coincidence: the dead had certainly never seen his face before.

As for Posey herself, her smile suggested she knew something the recipient did not, but there was no malice to it. Her mannerisms and outfit altogether suggested she was a woman who lived life at her own pace and enjoyed every second of it.

Noxx, of course, the dead had already seen. Even now he was dressed in his strange wizard-like outfit, and he was still eying the dead analytically, possibly thinking he could detect some kind of magical aura around them.
