Cricket Mitsu rummaged around the cardboard boxes in her office, getting things into place. She had just set up her firm; she wasn't much of one to want to start out as a lower-ranking attorney in another firm, being the independent soul she was, much like her identical triplet sister Mille, who worked in the prosecutor's office and was fairly new there, but most unlike her other triplet sister Mari, who was an assistant to a manga-ka in addition to being a doujinshi-ka. Blue-green eyes scanned over the law books in the box she was currently unpacking.

"...I hope for my sake that I don't have to crack this one open. It was my best class in law school..." She whispered faintly, not paying attention to anyone or anything that might be around her. "I really ought to organize my stuff better though. Wouldn't want a client to think I was the queen of airheads..."

Her left hand fell upon another large law tome, causing her to blink. "Hmm...I didn't know I even brought this one. I must have been in a hurry to pack and added this one. Hope I know what I need to know from this one..."

Jewel-wrapped pigtails hung themselves over her shoulders, the jewels resting on top of the stack of books that still remained in the box. She hoped a client would not come in today of all days; after all, she'd only got her desk set up, and her computer wasn't even ready in case she needed it. She slumped down to her knees, sighing heavily. Where was that book on criminal law? She didn't find it in that box, nor was it in any of the ones she'd been digging through earlier.

"Not today...not today of all days..." She whined.

The jinxes of the world suddenly descended upon Cricket and marked her as an excellent example of why some things should not be said out loud.

The door flew open and an alien rushed in.

She looked like an enormous bird, standing 5'7". She was clothed in a black trenchcoat and leather pants. She had a beak and her face was coated in blood red feathers with a pair of curved, horn-like ear tufts. She wore a helmet -- its rather flamboyant decor said it was more for show than protection.

She seemed to be in a panic as she slammed the door behind her. Beads of sweat were clearly visible on her face, despite her feathers.

"Yu-Yun," she gasped out, "Yun...Yang...oh, geez, they're in so much tr-trouble...."

"Aa!" With a deep suddenness, Cricket glanced up, her tail, which had been previously hidden under her skirt stuck out, bottlebrushing slightly. She cursed herself for her big mouth, wondering why it was that her sister Mille had all the luck and their grandfather's scouter. She glanced at the figure standing before her, noting that this being was more unusual than she'd seen before, but not by much. After all, her father's side of the family had not originally been from Earth.

"Calm down, alright?" She said in a firm but compassionate voice, her hands moving to close the box she had been digging in so furiously.

Her green-blue eyes held a deep sense of seriousness now, unlike the goofy ferventness that had pervaded them for most of the afternoon. She rose up from her knees, still standing rather short; she really hadn't had a good growth spurt in a while unlike her sisters.

With her hands lying atop one another on her chest, she glanced straight into the other being's eyes. "What kind of trouble are they in, m'am?"

Cricket glanced around her office quickly for a moment, then ran to her desk, digging in the largest drawer, where she had stored her water. Approaching the other, she held it out.

"Here you go. Drink up, okay?"

The bird woman snatched it away, drained it in one go, then smashed the plastic bottle against her forehead. She seemed a bit dazed...then she sighed and composed herself.

"You a lawyer?"

"Y-yes. I am, as a matter of fact...I admit I'm kind of new, but I'm willing to take cases to learn as I go..." Cricket's voice sounded only slightly confident right now, not her usual gung-ho voice that she'd been known for. She scanned her desk for her stack of business cards, then picked up one and handed it to the bird-woman, her tail swishing left and right as though to show her current mood--a mixture of happy, nervous, and still rather confused. "My name is Cricket Mitsu, attorney-at-law."

"What kind of trouble are they in?" Her eyes were curious now, and her tail formed a slight question mark shape. Fingers tapped on her arms, a sign that she awaited the answer with deep curiosity.

Xilaa looked sheepish. She mushed two fingers together in a gesture of inner turmoil.

"Well, like I mentioned earlier, I'm the leader of a MUGEN team...and two of my underlings, Yun and Yang have gotten into trouble. Bad trouble. The kind of bad trouble, like getting-framed-for-murder trouble."

"Whoa! A big case like this right off the bat? I feel like that Phoenix Wright guy that my sister's sempai Edgeworth is always talking about!" Her face brightened up. "I'll take it!"

Her voice was full of confidence now, her arm outstretched in a fashion most similar to Phoenix's own, but instead of her index finger being raised, her thumb went up. Her tail wrapped itself around her waist like a fuzzy belt now, giving her the semblance of the true attorney she hoped to be.

However, deep in the back of her mind, she thought, '...I just hope the prosecutor for the case isn't my sister Mille or her sempai...'

"Right! Yun and Yang are being held in the Gatewater Hotel. We've rented it out for the next coupla months. We try to take care of our own, but fighters do get into scrapes with the law. It's their nature, y'know?" She scoffed, a mischevious glint in her eye. "Nah, guess you wouldn't, lawyer-girl. By the by, what are you? I've been travelling with the Doctor, but I don't remember names."

"...Actually, I do know about a lot of fighters getting in scrapes with the law..." Here she coughed for a faint moment, saying the words "Uncle Kakarotto" into the cough. "Oh...what am I? Um...do you mean...my species? Or my occupation? I-if you do, I'm half-human, half-saiyajin...my mom's human, my dad's side is mostly full-breed saiyajin except for my cousins..."

Her tail drooped some. She knew a lot about fighter nature, to be honest. She used to be one because of her lineage--then there was her high-school crush who she'd never confessed to--now he was a fighter! But that was ancient history--her and Rock Howard? Preposterous!

"Um...but if you mean my job or something...I'm a beginning defense attorney...and I do occasionally fight in martial arts tournaments. Never could get a team up for the King of Fighters tournament though...my sisters couldn't get along long enough..."

Xilaa cackled. Her laugh was gravelly and rough, but full of good intent.

"You? In the KOF? I don't believe it! Heh, gimme a fight later and I'll see if that changes my mind, lawyer-girl. Now what are we waiting for? Yun and Yang aren't built for the big house, man! Heck, they aren't built for modern life as a whole! Arrgh, those frickin' idiots...." She squeezed her sinuses and strode from the room.

"Yeah..." She glances up to the ceiling as though she had a thought on her mind, then pulled out a pencil and tossed it, point up, toward the ceiling. A big case off the bat? She couldn't be more excited...or more nervous. She just hoped that Winston Payne or Godot were the prosecutor. She couldn't take the thought of her sister Mille or the great Miles Edgeworth as the prosecutor. Each would be far too merciless on her...especially her sister, who would probably shoot a hail of energy blasts at her every few minutes...

Cricket blinked her eyes several times, then shot up and headed for the door as well, pulling a lanyard keychain out of her pocket and locking the door behind her. "Yeah! Ahahaha...I was truly having a blond moment there..."

Now she felt like a total ditz--which wasn't too far off half the time.

With a tight grip, Cricket snagged onto the TARDIS for dear life. This was definitely going to be quite a ride for her; things she'd never seen or known of before were suddenly becoming more real to her than the paperweight of an absol that lay on her desk.

Xilaa's hand tightened on the bean bag...and then they were suddenly floating. The air felt cool, crisp, and fresh, like a meadow breeze....

Then they were flying. The air pressure forced them both to shut their eyes, so Cricket could not tell where they were going, but there was wind present, and that meant that they were moving very fast, very rapidly.

And then they were there. The Gatewater Hotel's temporary confinement area, known as "the brig" by the fighters, was a rec room modified into individual cells.

Xilaa put away the bean bag and smiled at her companion. "How'd it feel?"

"Gets worse," Xilaa muttered, shoving past Cricket towards a security guard. The guard had to be over seven feet tall and coated entirely in fireproof Kevlar. Xilaa flashed him a golden badge.

"Team leader," she said, "Girl here's a lawyer. Lemme past, Jumbo."

The guard growled at Xilaa's lack of respect, but moved out of the way. There was a door behind him, dwarfed by his massive bulk.

Xilaa turned to Cricket. "Ready?"

Xilaa led her down a short hallway to a room separated in two by a heavy glass window. On the other side of the glass were two young men. They had to be Yun and Yang. The older brother was leaning against the wall, the other was staring into space, his hat on at a weird angle.

"Hey, boys," Xilaa cried. She sounded upset. "How's prison life treatin' ya?"

Yun perked up immediately and ran to the glass. "Sai Xilaa! Oh, thank goodness! Yang was really getting nervous."

Yang muttered something that sounded profane.

Cricket's eyes widened at the profane-sounding language, but then slowly went back to their narrowedness. She should have been used to such language with her grandfather being an avid lover of swear words.

"Ahem...I'm Cricket Mitsu, and I'm a defense attorney...um..."

Out loud, those words sounded way more nervous than they had sounded in her mind. Boy was she glad that her sisters Mille and Mari weren't here--nor was her friend and sometimes assisstant Duo Lon; all three of them would have rubbed it in with no mercy.

Cricket just grinned and beared it for a while, trying to look a little less foolish than she'd made herself out to look. This meant, of course, keeping her tail wrapped around her waist as a belt of sorts and keeping quiet for now.

Cricket was, of course, out of the office as she was with Xilaa, but being the ditz she was, she'd forgotten to leave a note. However, Mille, one of her identical triplet sisters showed up at that very moment.

"Noah...why are you skulking outside my sister's office?" The scouter-covered eye looked less-than-thrilled, as did the un-scoutered eye. "I haven't felt her chi signature from this location for a few minutes. I'm pretty sure she's out. I could always give you her cellular number, however..."

Her presence was a little more forceful and commanding, owing in part to the fact that she was taller than her sister Cricket, and also in part to the fact that she dressed often like her idol and inspiration, Miles Edgeworth. Of course, there was always the fact that she tended to hurl energy blasts in the courtroom when she wasn't getting her way--much unlike her mellow sister.

"Well...do you want the number or not?!" Mille snapped impatiently.

"Sort of..." Mille says lowly, scrawling her sister's cellular phone number on a sticky note. "It's more of the bodily energy...but it's like your coffee sense in the essential sense that I can tell where certain people are from a ten mile radius...like my sisters for one. And my sempai for another..." Here, she gave a dignified throat clearing as though to avoid mentioning the name of said sempai.

"...Hmm...so what coffee was I drinking around nine this morning, and where was I, if your coffee senses are so good...?" Her tail swished somewhat impatiently now.

"That'd be just like Mari-chan...about ten miles away...probably either pestering Cricket's assistant Duo or doing more 'yaoi' doodles of the Steel Samurai and the Nickel Samurai..." Mille rolled her eyes at this last part. She'd never get why her sister Mari liked pairing two men up that much... "Anyways...you'd better be calling Cricket..."
