Klonoa's still a relatively low-key series with a cult following, and us Americans get gypped as they keep the more recent games in Japan D: but yeah, it was probably the least obscure one I listed.

Trace Memory...? I've hardly met any other TM fans O_o but eh, maybe I'm not looking in the right place. same with Drill Dozer. that thing got horrible sales but great reviews.

Bomberman -isn't- obscure, but BM 64: TSA, which I posted, is. It was made toward the end of the N64's life and didn't sell well despite being a really good game :<

If I enforced my usual rule (If I've heard of it, it isn't obscure), then this thread isn't very good since I've heard of the majority of the games here and even played some of them (Yes, zudda, that DOES include Theme Hospital)

Most of mine are horror games, but...

Most people only know "Rule of Rose," by the scandal it caused. It's actually a really amazing story with wonderful music. The only problem I had with it was the awful battles. D: Stop blocking your eyes when you swing things, Jennifer! No wonder you never hit anything!

Also, much love for all of the Okage love in here as well. <3<3 One of my favorites ever.

Has anybody ever played Thousand Arms? It's so cute. X3 I never thought a RPG/Dating Sim combination could work, but it's just so much fun! The characters are really adorable, but I totally don't remember the story. It's been so long~~~ :larry:

Hm, my games really must be obscure as no one has commented on them! *hint hint*

Let's see, I remember playing Chameleon Twist when I was little, but the game confused me... :meekins:

I love Tail Concerto! It's so funny and dramatic at the same time! :maya:

Ah, Iggy's Reckin' Balls. Good racing game, that one. I love tossing people off the stage! :-P

Such a fun, simple, yet-not-easy-to-beat game and possible one of Rare's best. The tilt is absolutely horrendous but there's so much to do and so much replay value that it only somewhat marrs the excellence that is Blast Corps.

One of my favorite games..(I love mythology in general) it's pretty hard to find now, and expensive to boot. I was lucky enough to buy it when it first came out..never sold it. Glad I didn't!

I have the 2nd one for the PS2.. haven't really played it yet though >.> I heard it's difficult.

Not too sure how "Obscure" it is, but it definitely is hard to find nowadays!

To tell you the truth, I randomly bought the game in a store next to my dad's office. I found it interesting, so I bought it for like $10.

One of the best purchases I've ever made. You've got to love dogs and cats! =P

Tomb Raider is one of my favorites. I was kinda shocked when I saw a commercial for it IN A THEATER, though. Guess it isn't so obscure now.... :sadshoe:

But still, the original ones are the best. Not "Legend" or "Anniversary Edition" or whatever.

God, that game gave me nightmares when I played the patch translation years and years ago. I was playing it in the dark at like three in the morning, and some horrible sound... like children screaming, happened in that boiler room or whatever. It was horrid! - Some of the monsters are scary, too.

You have to laugh though, the characters have those special powers like a vacuum to suck up glass and stuff. The bit that annoyed me was when you had to use a plank of wood to cross a hole in the floorboards, and if you walked across it too many times it broke, and they almost fell down! - Christ, the music is disturbing in that game, sometimes. Just unsettling and sick.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Home_(video_game)

I think it was based on a movie or something, but people don't seem to understand if the movie or the game came first. Spooky stuff.

The very first Clock tower. (Clock Tower: The First Fear, Super Nintendo/Famicom)

I played the fan translation like many times and beat it. (I got every ending) Some parts scare the crap out me...Scissorman crashing above the window, freaky music, MARY, and also the underground cavern. All and all, this is one my favorites out of the Clock Tower series! (Colck Tower 3 is my second favorite)

The only part that me made laugh is when you force Jennifer to use the toilet, but refuses! XD
Spoiler:
First time: "I don't have to use it right now..."
Second time:" Really! I don't have to go!"

Im trying to hunt a PLAYSTATION VERSION copy of the rare Re-release version of the original Clock Tower, but hard to find...(It has Extra Features...the Corspe Zombie chases you, a NEW unaccessible room, scarier music, and alternate origins of Dan Barrows!!)

HAHAHA OH GOD YES.

I...don't pay enough attention to how games are received online to know how obscure they are. But one of my favorite games (just for the fact that it's amusing - the dub is crap, the translation sounds like it was run through Babelfish, and sometimes text or voices aren't even translated) is Castle Shikigami II.

...aside from that...mmph. Like I said, I don't really know what's considered obscure...but games I don't hear a lot about include Amplitude, Gitaroo Man, Space Channel 5...stuff. >_> Oh god, Space Channel 5. I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER.

Syd of Valis was fun. Even though I spent more of my time playing the Lion King and Aladdin and such. XD;

Text-driven commands, faux-3D by geometrically-drawn areas, (now primitive) sounds echoing in the background let you hear how far away monsters were, heartbeats of the protagonist signaled exhaustion...
It's been hailed as the precursor of the first-person and dungeon-crawing genres.

Koudelka.

Many people know of Shadow Hearts and its sequels. But the predecessor, Koudelka? Nope. I love this game so much. The characters are awesome, and it sets up the whole "DON'T BRING THE DEAD BACK TO LIFE IDIOT" theme that's in the rest of the games in a much creepier fashion than even the first Shadow Hearts managed.

Plus? Best voice acting. I've heard it was originally voiced in English with Japanese subtitles, and when they brought it over, they just removed the subtitles.

I'm bumping this, because no thread about obscure games should ever be lost.

I have a few obscure games... lessee here...

Image
The best way I can describe ZanZarah is that it's a cross between Pokemon and a first-person shooter. You play a girl named Amy who's transported to the fantasy world of ZanZarah, where she must capture and train Pokemon fairies to defeat the Shadow Elves and restore balance to both Zanzarah and Earth. Like Pokemon, when you encounter another fairy trainer or a wild fairy you have to battle them. The twist with ZanZarah is that during the battle you play the fairy, and shoot magic at the other fairies FPS-style.

It sounds really corny (because it is), but it's a very well done game with a lot of replay value and it has an absolutely beautiful soundtrack.

Image
Diggles is a very cute little strategy game, where you play a colony of dwarves. You can micromanage your dwarves and tell them what to do (sort of like the Sims), and you have to build homes and workshops, etc for your dwarves. The game very quickly extends to underground, where you encounter other dwarf colonies (there are some Jamaican ones) and some monsters. In story mode, the purpose is to find the links of the chain that makes up the leash of Odin's hellhound, Fenris, but there's also sandbox and skirmish modes.

That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure I've played more. ZanZarah and Diggles are both for the PC, and they both originally came out in German.

Mech Assault 2
Every Rayman canon game (Rayman 1, 2, and 3)
F-Zero (I was in a Sega hate topic, and they said Sonic was the only good game, so I seriously has to mention the game in 5 different posts, then show a picture of it, for people to even acknowlege that Sega had a part in making it, then they went back to Sonic)

I actually have Thousand Arms. Despite the cool characters and the dating sim parts, I ultimately hated the game because its battle system sucked horribly. I wanted to slit my eyeballs just so I didn't have to look at those DBZ Ultimate Battle 22-like graphics ever again..

Anyway, here are a couple from my childhood..

Ironsword: Wizards and Warriors 2, second NES game I've ever played.

Astyanax, for the NES. It's the third NES game I've ever played, and it was hard. I remember crying for joy after I beat the first boss.

I'm giving good odds no-one's even heard of Panzer Dragoon Saga, so I'll introduce it. It's a 4-disc epic RPG where you spend most of the game flying around on a dragon shooting things. How is that not awesome?

While on the topic of old Sega Saturn games I loved:
Image
Another legendary game, and one that I played even when the box broke in half from abuse.

Image
The first SRPG I truly loved, and I still do. Too bad they never bothered to release parts 2 and 3 outside of Japan...

Other games of note:
SNES - Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Illusion of Time/Gaia.
N64 - Both Goemon games (which I was awful at), Mischief Makers (shake shake!)

That's all I can think of right now...
Image
We won...somehow. Townie victory on Day 12.

Image
And so it begins.

Though the most obscure game I've played and loved is this.

Think of Pharaoh, only set in Greek times. It's a nice historical city builder, with interesting new quirks such as friendly Gods who give you food or armed forces, and furious Gods who curse your town and kill your civilians.

Blast Corps was the shit. I remember renting it 2-3 times back in my N64 fanboy days. SMRPG and Earthbound can wait; this needs to be on Wii VC!

And while I'm at it...

This, IMO, is the definitive SNES shmup. 12 long stages (along with a 4-stage "short game" for those in a hurry), eight different weapons, and impressive visuals (Area 2 has you fighting a giant space station that zooms in and out and rotates, for example).

It's a shame they changed the plot completely for the American version. Instead of 2 anime-style characters and multiple endings, we get generic "aliens taking over" story and generic faceless pilot.
