MATH TIME.
I was thinking about this earlier. GS1 had 29 different characters. GS2 had 33, 10 of which were returning characters. GS3 had 36 with 15 returning.
Now GS4 had 32, with only 6 returning (due to the new arc). So...for now let's assume that GS5 will have 33, with 10-12 returning. Who do you think it'll be??
I think a few are obvious:
1. Odoroki
2. Minuki
3. Phoenix
4. The Judge
5. Payne
6. Ema
7. Kyouya - probably not as the head prosecutor, but I bet he'll be there.
8. Lamiroir
Let's also assume that the writers bow to fan pressure and include Edgeworth and at least one Fey (either Maya or Pearl. I don't think both of them have a chance of coming back).
So, assuming 1 or 2 GS4-introduced characters have a chance of returning, who do you think they'll be?
I think Makoto and Hamigaki have the best chances of showing back up. As a reporter, Hamigaki has an excuse to be at almost any crime scene. Makoto has a lot of backstory to clear up, and a lot of development to look forward to. I'd be glad to see either of them.
I think there's also a small chance for Mugitsura.
I'd also really like to see Maki again, but maybe not until GS6.
So of those 4...I think Makoto and Hamigaki have a good chance of reappearing.

hmm... and then maybe Capcom will see AstralFire's/My Judge 3rd person view sheet...>_>? Maybe...?
Well... I think GS5 should be MUCH longer... such as after beating the game with whoever the main character is... you could unlock a different story, such as being a different character, and then eventually... prosecutor... and maybe even... Judge? Or a witness/Defendant.../Murderer
And maybe a character Creator... allowing you to make your own custom character, by combining parts from others, and changing colours...

That's interesting you say that.. because just earlier I was reading about a film in the TV Guide called ....And Justice for All (sound familiar? ;) ) - it stars Al Pacino as an idealistic young lawyer who has to defend a judge accused of assaulting a young woman.
When I read "idealistic young lawyer" Nick or Apollo instantly popped into my head.

I suggest, for 5-1 you play as Apollos apprentice (even though Apollo himself has only been a lawyer a short time), and Apollo can tutor him on court procedure,
then in the second case,
*Bang*
Apollos apprentice is shot on his way out of the courthouse
and who is arrested...
a) the Judge
b) Nick
c) Apollo (prob not, or you'd need to create a new defense lawyer or get nick back)
d) Minuki
e) Ema
f) Payne
g) Kyouya
pick one...
then, Apollo (assuming he isn't the one who is arrested) goes crazy and unleashes his true potential as a lawyer...

Ema is in GS4 - that's enough to prove that Ashes is canon. She even mentions that's how she and Phoenix met. The only reason some people prefer not to think of Ashes as canon is because they didn't do the best job of fitting it into the story at that point.

The case looks like the judge tooootally did it! Even AJ begins to believe udgey did it! Also there will be drama in J's famliy becose his brother has come in to be the judge. Ewen he believes juge did it...BUT! Then, when the all hope is gone we have a miracle! The evidence that shows judge didn't do it is...the GAVEL! Don't ask how it shows it...I dunno!...
We also may have this kind of end (If this is the last ace attorney game):
Phoenix dies. Yep! If this is the last game then this would be end good and dramatic enough so all fans would have sad end, thus, they really see that this is the last part.

This is at odds with everything we've ever seen in the GS games. If this was the case, there never would have been a first game. Or a third game. "It's been six, err, eight, errr, fifteen years, people change..." that's not really an option with these characters...
