Super Mario bros., Super Mario bros 2, Castlevania, Punch Out!, Mario Bros., Yoshi!, Kid Icarus, Balloon fight,Shining force, Bomber Man 93, Donkey Kong country, Donkey kong country 2, Super Mario world, Act Raiser, Simcity, Super Castlevania VI, Metroid, Super Metroid, Super Mario 64, Paper Mario, Mario kart 64, and Star fox 64.
So I'd recommend Any and all of the ones I listed above.

Buy Sonic Mega Collection for the Gcube, cost 10$ and includes Ristar and all the Sonic games on the VC :D
Super Metroid is a winner, and if you like Zelda rip offs try Neutopia. Ninja Gaiden is a whole but load of fun for 5$. Paper Mario is also a great game that you should pick up.
Oh, but first you must buy Actraiser, the game is awesome in almost every way.

Metroid and Super Metroid should be easy choices, well, you may let go Metroid because it's pretty much harder and you can get lost easily but it's for you to choose
.I also recommend the others Zelda titles if you are interested, and Kirby on the NES. But in the end it all comes up to which types of games you like.

Games I've got:
Starfox 64
Super Mario Bros.
Gunstar Heroes
Kirby's Adventure
Bomberman
Starfox is a lot of fun if you want to encounter the good ol' quotes ('DO A BARREL ROLL!'), and, although short, has a lot of replayability because you can take different paths to reach the last boss.
Super Mario Bros. is plain fun, and very cheap.
Gunstar Heroes is a very hectic sidescrolling shooter, which is especially fun with a friend to play through.
Kirby's Adventure is awesome. I liked it better than SMB, and it's beautiful for a NES game.
Bomberman is nice if you like to play multiplayer with upto five people (the single player is crap).
If I hadn't got them for other consoles, I'd also have Paper Mario, A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. These are all great.

EDIT: In response to the op, I recommend Super Castlevania 4, and Super Metroid, if you don't already have the original copies. As well as Gunstar Heroes, Ristar, and Act Raiser. I haven't really checked too deep into what's on VC already though, so that's all I can give.

Earthbound is not on the list of coming soon titles, after all the ESRB has to rate all the VC titles before they can be released on the NA VC. Maybe in Japan Mother 2 may be coming out soon, but not in NA.

Both Streets Of Rage 2 and 3 are 800 POINTS.
Oh, and if you've got a Japanese Wii, you have to get Choaniki. Best game ever.

The game is called "J.B. Harold in Murder Club". This game is like Hotel Dusk, but no puzzles. The setting takes place in Washington D.C. and a murder was occured in Liberty Town.
